That Dreaded Noise in the Night!
pop pop replied to Dennis1209's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Aloha8, I don't remember the brand or model number. I purchased it from Amazon a good while back. Throwed the box away. I looked on the transmitter and receiver and they don't have any markings or brands on either. Sorry. -
That Dreaded Noise in the Night!
pop pop replied to Dennis1209's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
We had driveway pirates Christmas Eve night on our road and another road across Hwy 96 E. I had all my doors locked on my cars and they never got anything from us. I don't leave valuables in my cars of trucks. some of my neighbors were not as lucky. I purchased a driveway alarm afterwards, and we have really used it. Purchased it from Amazon and it and one transmitter cost 245.00. It will take multiple transmitters. Installed it myself. I have the sender hid in a shrub beside the driveway and it had a magnetic detector and 50' of cable that runs back to the transmitter. On the other end of the cable is a magnetic detector which is buried in the middle of the driveway, and it sends a signal to the receiver inside the house. It even picks up my lawnmower, on the 2nd round, when my granddaughter mows beside my drive (60" cut") in my yard. My drive is 300 feet long and I can see every car coming in from my Lazy Boy chair and it wakes us up at night. My drive is situated such that all the cars must pass over the sender unit in the drive. I put the transmitter 50' up the drive so people just turning around don't set it off. I would highly recommend one. As far as I know it has worked every time someone comes in. The transmitter runs on 4, 9 V batteries, and they have lasted 14 months. I am sure I run another porch pirate off a few months back because they come up my drive shortly after Amazon left a package on the porch. I took a few extra minutes to go outside to retrieve the package, and the dude seen me come out then backed 100' back down the drive and sped off. NO one comes that far up my drive and backs out to turn around. Like I said I recommend the alarm. It will let you know if your home. My neighbor has one and is a retired Policemen. His alerted him to a guy coming to kill him. He testified against the thug when the county sent the guy to the pen. He got out and came to neighbor's house to waste him. Thank God the Deputy got there in time to arrest the drunken convict before he got into neighbor's house. Neighbor was in wait just inside the door with his 40 caliber on his hip and shotgun on the couch beside him. He is the one who told me to get the alarm. Glad I did. Hope fully it will wake me or let me know when someone comes. A few extra secs/mins will allow one to get up and come to himself, hopefully, if asleep. -
Pepper spray recommendations
pop pop replied to lock n' load's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I read recently that some states are frowning on citizens carrying or using pepper spray. Any of you guys read anything on this? I had some years back, but it aged out, and I never replaced it. I had the clip canisters and they performed as advertised when I relieved the can of its contents. Shot about 15 feet a straight stream. -
Welcome to TGO. Pick a subject and jump in with both feet. Glad to have yea.

I have a 7MM 08 Savage Axis with a weaver 3 X 9 scope now. been playing with it for a while now. Got this because they were our 0f 6.5 Creedmoor. Do like 30 06 because I am old school. Gave my grandson a Savage Axis 308 with a Weaver 3 X 9 scope on it. He took a doe with it this year in S Carolina.

I would really like the 8 shot 38Spl/357 Mag, with a 5" brl for a house gun. Just have a hard time pulling the trigger on a 1,000.00 + revolver. Gave my 681 to my grandson. What I get for offering him any gun of mine he wanted. That was my bedroom lamp stand gun at the time. I got a 357 7 shot Taurus now and a M P 9C 2.0 also. Always wanted the 8 shooter. Don't know if it would be the end all revolver for a revolver guy. I do love them much more than the plastic guns.

I was denied once and took a day to get it straight. Never found out why. Hang in there, and welcome here.

Not hiring professionals and trying to save money bit them in the butt here. Yes Balwin is responsible. -
Teach him that he will be the provider and protector of his family. Also teach him about Jesus the Savior and God the Father.

Punch to the face is not considered life threatening. A club, pipe, etc. to the head is life-threatening. The Police have a wide latitude in what they can do to subdue a resisting arrest person, or fleeing felon "Possibly" in this case. Got to find out why they stopped him guys. They said reckless driving which can rise to a felony in TN. No one will not be able to find out much about this incident until all the evidence is in including autopsies and all evidence. Bracca is right, most people are looking at this emotionally and emotion will play "NO" part in applying the laws or facts of this case inside the future court room. I am in agreement with some here that a "few" police officers will be found on the wrong side of this incident, but not as many as some seem to think. Certainty not as many as have been let go, fired, or laid off, whatever that means in this situation. I have only seen 1 so far and that is the head kicker. A blow like that can cause a brain bleed and even death at a later date. Clearly this guy was resisting arrest, and they were in a fight to cuff his arms behind his back. A lot of what is being discussed, in the media, is purely untrue. I heard 40 hits to his face, he was beat after cuffing, simply not true. Guys, let the facts come out. I even go as far as to say some of us will never learn all the true facts of this situation. I am wondering if some even care about the true facts. In TN , they may be convicted, but most will be overturned on appeal if that happens, and most of these officers will get their jobs back with back pay if they want them. IMO. Emotions are through the roof! I know my opinion is very unpopular right now, so burn my britches guys! Won't change the law one title or dot. Thank God we are still a free nation of laws. Edited to add; This all depends on, IF THIS WAS A LEGAL STOP.
-
"If the stop and arrest was legal" he is not far off on his assessment IMO. Like him or not (and I get it, many don't) he is a good lawyer. Each officer will face this individually. No guilt by association in this case. The dude with the kick to the head is in deep DO DO. Law is not swayed by emotion. The book he is Giving Away is well worth the read and I bought the one I have.

They took the new Benelli hunting this morning and got 2 green heads. Said the new gun slid in Parker's hand and bruised his finger on the trigger guard. I told him to get him some shooting gloves with sticky on them. He is only 14 with small hands and the 12 Ga with 3" shells are wicked. His dad said he loves the shotgun. They are getting up at 3 AM and Parker is going to school late. I think 1/2 hour or so. That kid is eat up with Duck Hunting. I told SIL to bite the bullet and purchase some Bismuth for the 20 and let Parker see what it will do. It really fits him much better. I don't know how much longer duck season last in S Carolina. The guy with the membership to the hunting club told Parker he could use his membership until duck season is over. It cost 15,000.00 per year to belong to this club in Georgetown S Carolina. The guy who owns the membership has it for clients to use connected with his business. Lucky for Parker and his dad. They also have all types of hunting there year-round so they may have walked into a good thing. I think this guy lives in the same place as Justin. Good neighbor. They can take up to 4 guys as visitors every time they go. Justin said most of the hunters are old guys aand shooting 5-to-6-thousand-dollar guns, drink like fish and smoke like a freight train. OH Well! The old guys pick at Parker, but are amazed with his shooting. Dad said Parker smiles and hunts on.

SNL went me a picture of Bismouth 12 Ga on the shelf. It had a shelf price of 55.90 for a box of 25. Ouch! I see what he means. I told him to get a box for the 20 Ga and see what it will do. Take good shots with the ammo. Teach son to conserve his ammo.

I purchased an M_P 9 M2.0 EZ last year for the same reason you did. Hands stink with arthritis. Aspercreme with Lidocaine every morning and during the day as needed for pain. It takes the edge off the pain somewhat. It helps. I have a CompTac IWB to carry it in. I like the pistol as I was using an MP9MC2.0 and the EZ cycles easier. Good choice for our problem. Welcome back Dennis.

They just sent me a message that they purchased a Benelli, Montefeltro semi-auto12 Ga with a 28" brl from Bass Pro In Mertle Beach S Carolina. They were there for their daughter's volleyball tournament. Yes, using steel. Said they looked at Bismuth but was expensive. My SIL is a "chepo". It has taken me a year to convince him to purchase a good named brand shotgun. Told him what your said about the 20 Ga. He has a Mossberg 20 ga pump with a 26" brl that they are having trouble knocking ducks out of the sky but blasting tail feathers out of them. I told them to lead the ducks a little bit farther. Bismuth sounds great to me. I gave grandson my father's Remington mdl 1148 semi 26" brl auto 16 Ga but it does not have a plug in it, and it has an improved cylinder. Bismouth, if they could find the ammo, would bring it into play. Told g-son my dad purchased the 1148 in 1956. If he takes care of it he can give it to his children. Thanks guys. He had to pay 790.00 + tax for the Benelli. Benelli site says retail is 1475.00 for this model. Bass Pro Shop had a deal on this shotgun. Edited to add; Grandson got his first double with a borrowed 12 Ga yesterday. Two Green Heads. This kid is eat up with hunting and fishing. Even has his own boat at age 14. Daughters boss gave it to him. 17 ft flat bottom w a 50 salt water Honda on it. His dad had to get the motor cleaned but runs great now. Carburetor/gas dried in it.

I have not watched the video. I seen the piece they ran, on channel 2, from the pole camera where they were wrestling with him, and one officer kicked him in the head, several times, while the other two officers appeared to be trying to subdue him. It looks like a bad stop, but one never knows until one gets all the facts on any case.

He has the deer hunting bug also. I gave him a Savage Axis 308 w/Weaver 9x40 scope on it. Maverick sounds good, I am familiar with them however do preferer a Mossberg. Both are made by Mosberg if memory serves me well. His dad just sent me a message and posted he found a Mossberg Mdl 500 walnut stock pump with a 24" and 28" brl package at Sportsman's Guide which he said was a great deal. I think he is going to purchase that for him. That would be the best of both worlds for the boy. He hunts both Turkeys and Ducks plus swamp rabbits. Thanks for the suggestion Scotty.

My grandson has gotten hooked on duck hunting. I gave him a Mosberg 20 ga with a 26" brl and it is not enough gun to kill ducks with. He went to a high dollar hunting preserve and shot 3 which blew feathers out of the ducks and they fluttered a bit but kept flying. His dad let him use his 12 Ga and he killed 5 during their hunt. His dad is now looking for a 28" 12 Ga semi auto or pump. The 20 Ga does good on small ponds, but the ducks are much closer. He is not buying high dollar guns so what would you all suggest he purchase. I have a Mosberg 12 Ga I would give him but it has an 18 1/2" brl and I called Mossberg yesterday and they have no barrels for sale. Said they are using all of them on new guns and they have no extras right now. told me to call back in 6 weeks. Any suggestions. The kid is 14 and eat up with hunting. Lives in Mt Pleasant S Carlina and his dad goes with him often.

This appears to be really bad. When the camera footage comes out to the public, if it is not tampered with, could get much worse. Memphis is just not a nice place to be in now. Was thinking of camping at Memen Shelby Park, but my brother-in-law, who years ago lived near there, told me to stay away from it. Said in his opinion it was no longer a safe area. I read Tom Givens book, "The ABCs of Self-Defense" and he mentioned he had 67 students that who were forced to defend themselves around Memphis and told the stats of all of them. He had a training school there for 21 years, but he is retired now and lives in Florida. He said Memphis is the most dangerous city in the United States for its size. Memphis is just not for me. I feel sorry for my wife's 77 Y O sister who lives there and can't get out.

Jamie Jackson I would like to know the forum you are talking about.

My Son in Law wanted to give my 14 Y O grandson a semi auto shotgun. I gave him a single shot 410. I told SIL Parker needed to get accustomed to shooting a single shot or a pump first. Told SIL he couldn't purchase ammo fast enough for his kid to burn in a semi auto. He thought about it and agreed. Sure is a lot of merit to single shot rifles and shotguns for the young. For sure, with ammo so expensive and hard to come by. I learned on the 410 when I was 8. Learned how to make shots count also. Dad made me purchase my own ammo. Mowed yards for money to hunt.
