How about a single action revolver? Got plenty of character and fun to shoot. If she doesn't shoot you could use your birthday money to buy her a pink Sig Mosquito(or some other such girly colored gun). Tell her that the reason buying her a gun is actually a gift for you is that you'll be able to spend more time together(she might give you some of the good stuff too, if ya know what I mean;)). Plus if you are secure enough in your manhood, you can have fun shooting it too.

As long as you're not a dumbass after midnight you should be fine. You just have to avoid other dumbasses.

If you're ever around Kingsport when I'm in town look me up and you'd be welcome to shoot it. This is my first 9mm 1911 and I was actually slightly surprised when I first shot it. Recoil is almost nonexistent. On a side note, I just had an FTF. I thought the worst and hand ejected the round expecting to see a light primer strike. The primer had been struck normally. It was definitely not a light strike. I do believe that this may be the first completely ammunition related failure I have ever had with new factory ammo. It was WallyWorld Winchester white box that I bought today.

Thanks Willis. If it had more traditional serrations on the slide and didn't have the stupid lawyerese on it, it might be perfect.

Just picked it up today. It's a Smith and Wesson SW1911 Pro Series 9mm(178017). I had to put a few rounds through it as soon as I got home. Too early to tell with only a couple of mags through it, but so far it's accurate and didn't miss a beat with the included Wilson mags. Here are the obligatory pics-

Para USA is currently in the process of restructuring the company. The last few years, during the move from Canada to North Carolina, Para has gotten a little bit of a bad reputation with both QC and CS. If you check out some of the 1911centric forums you'll read about a lot of problems with recent Para guns. Hopefully after the restructuring Para will be good to go again. I'd like to have a double stack 1911 and Para's price is right, but I'll be waiting a while before buying any Para guns.

0311. Signed up in '91, came out of boot an E-2 thanks to a meritorious promotion and thought I was on the fast track. Got showed the hatch thanks to a back injury in '92. I still have never applied for disability after all of these years in spite of being encouraged to do so by the VA. Just never felt like I earned it.

Yeah this. Oh, and Penn State.

Sure do. They make an 1875 Remington replica too. I believe that Cimarrons guns are made for them by Uberti. When I get to that part of my wishlist, a 9mm 1911 is next on the list, I'll probably go with a Cimarron 1875 Remington replica in .357 Mag. I've always been a fan of the 1875s unique look and overbuilt design.

I have 10 .22s at the moment.

I love single action revolvers. My .357 New Vaquero may be my most accurate handgun. I have always wanted to own what I would consider to be the big 3 SA revolvers- the Colt Single Action Army, the 1875 Remington(aka Outlaw), and the S&W Model 3(aka Schofield). Of course it's highly unlikely that I would ever be able to afford originals, but I'm looking to add some replicas in the future. The Colt Peacemaker .22 is way up my list of must have guns too, they are just really hard to find. New Frontiers are pretty common, but adjustable sights just don't belong on single action revolvers(no offense Blackhawk fans, JMO).

American Classic II, PICTURE HEAVY **56K BEWARE**
USMCJG replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Handguns
Several companies make 1911s with commander slides and officer frames. Kimber makes the Compact Stainless II and Compact CDP II. Sig makes the C3, RCS, and Compact Stainless. STI makes the Guardian. Even S&W has gotten into the act now with the 108310. The Kimbers and the STI aren't really true Commander frames though, but they are close. Of course there are many manufacturers who make bobtailed 1911s as well. -
Flip this around and imagine how the people at that church would react if a mosque decided to burn the Bible. I seem to remember something about doing unto others as you would have them do unto you in the Bible. Both sides of this issue need to remember the Golden Rule.

Hornady Lock-N-Load AP Progressive Press
USMCJG replied to clarky07's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I haven't bought a progressive press yet, but I have done a lot of research on them. If I were going to buy one today, it would be the Hornady. The reviews I have read(many, many of them) place the Hornady as equal to or better than the Dillon and a bit cheaper too. My question is why you would want to use a progressive press to load .308? Most people use progressives for pistol and sometimes small rifle cartridges(like .223), not for large rifle cartridges. Not that it can't be done, but it is rather unusual. For dies, if you just want to quickly load average quality ammunition(the whole purpose of a progressive press), pretty much any brand will do. I like Hornady right now because of the free bullet offer. I own Hornady .308 dies and they work just fine. -
I reckon not. I dun thunk I spelt it rite cause the dad gum speller check thang doan no a ding dang thang.

Thank goodness you didn't try to embarrass him. Imagine how embarrassing that would have been.

I must admit that I did have a religious person show up at my house several years ago to try to give me the gospel, I declined and he left. I still haven't felt the need to get a sign. Some atheists are in a perpetual verbal war with anyone who disagrees with them, just like some (insert denomination here) are. I mean are the Ten Commandments at a courthouse really hurting anyone? I don't have a problem with any of the ten. It's not about content, it's about ideology(and a complete misunderstanding about what the phrase "separation of church and state" actually means). That makes it either a religious or political debate, and not a factual or practical one. As far as violence and religion. It's not religions fault that wars are fought over it, it's people's fault. And atheists are people too. Anyone who believes that they are absolutely right must at the same time believe that everyone else is absolutely wrong. The results of such thinking are unavoidable. As far as Sunday morning TV goes. If an atheist can get a TV deal, or buy a slot on a network, then he/she can air their show. It will stay on as long as enough people want to watch it. I've got 300 channels, a DVD player, a PS3, a computer, and I can go outside any time I want. Nobody can make me watch anything I don't want to. I'm guessing you have other options too. If you only want to watch what you want to watch when you want to watch it, then all you need are a lot of DVDs or your own TV network. I am not going to pretend to know what Hawking believes. But I can say that there is no mathematical equation that can explain the Big Bang Theory, and it is highly unlikely that there ever will be. To boil it down to it's essence, the Big Bang Theory states that there was nothing and it existed nowhere. Somehow, the nothing that was nowhere exploded and became everything that is everywhere. That isn't any more believable than the idea that an omnipotent being created everything. And yes we could keep the chicken or the egg debate going perpetually re: if there was an omnipotent being then what created him/her/it. Hawking states that- "Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing." The problem is that, according to accepted science, gravity does not exist without mass, and nothing has no mass. Ever since the climategate fiasco, I'm not going to put my faith in an unerring adherence to the scientific method from many scientists. The problem with theoretical physics is that, since none of the theories can be proven(and few disproven for that matter due to a fairly staggering lack of understanding of such things), scientists develop an end idea and work to show how it might be plausible. They don't start from a known point and scientifically work outwardly from that point. Many religions have come and gone over the millenia, some of the current ones will too. And new religions, like atheism, will take their places. Is anybody really constantly being told they're going to hell? People get mad about what they want to get mad about. Some people might even be able to convince themselves that they really are constantly being told they're going to hell, but it ain't true. I don't subscribe to any religion, but I can't remember anybody telling me I was going to hell because of it. Nothing wrong with a spirited debate. I'm not going to sit here and pretend that I have all of the answers. I'm smart enough to know that I don't.

Congrats Bubba, glad to hear that you found a new job. By the way, how's that M&P working out for you? Oh yeah, I found the other backstrap a couple weeks ago behind my computer.

Beer's beer, a buzz is a buzz, and drunk's drunk. I like Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale and Oatmeal Stout myself, but Keystone will get you to the same destination.

And that is my problem with the pushiest zealots, whether they be religious or atheist. In this instance Hawking is no different than any religious person or atheist, he believes something that he cannot prove. If you study theoretical physics for very long, you'll realize that it has much more in common with religion than it does with science(atheism is also a religion in the strictest sense, since it is based on belief, aka faith, and not proven fact). I have no problem with anyone believing whatever they want, I just don't care to have anyone else's beliefs pushed on me. And atheists are some of the most condescending and overbearing in this regard, in spite of the fact that they really have no more evidence to support their beliefs than any Christian, Jew, Hindu, or Muslim. I shall climb down from my soapbox now.

Short answer- there really isn't one.

Just go over all of the basic rules first before anyone even loads a magazine- finger off the trigger until ready to fire, always pointed in a safe direction, etc.. Only let one person shoot at a time and only while you are right next to them. This is about them learning to shoot and having a good time, so I wouldn't plan on getting a lot of rounds in yourself. When you are shooting though, lead by example even to the point that you are over-exaggerating safe handling. Just make sure that they understand how important safe gun handling is, but don't go overboard and make it scary. And like Mike said, range cold- hands off. Be safe and have fun.
