Things like this are a chain of events. If 9mm is the most prevalent caliber, more people buy 9mm. When more people buy 9mm, the manufactures make more 9mm guns and ammo. It is even more pronounced when you involve large organizations like the FBI or police departments. With so many calibers around today, it would take a major marketing push to get enough people to adopt it and make a difference. That kind of money and influence is not easy to round up. If you want to try, start by talking it up to friends and people at the range. Let them try it out. Maybe that will prompt them to look at it. Don't expect to see thousands of converts anytime soon though.

National Preparedness Month - Are you prepared?
Ronald_55 replied to Ronald_55's topic in General Chat
Growing up we had a huge snowstorm that knocked out power for a bunch of days and stranded us at home. My parent's thought about stuff like that so we just stoked the woodstove up higher and cooked off the top of it. We all camped on the living room floor in front of the fireplace. We packed all the food from the fridge and freezer in coolers and buried them outside in the snow. I guess that might be part of what taught me that I wanted to be ready for most anything that came along. I have propane logs that can heat about the entire house with a tank that would last months. I keep a closet full of quilts on top of that. My 2 burner Coleman stove is at the ready to give us hot food, warm water, and clean drinking water. I always keep a manual can opener and a cupboard full of canned goods. Most could be eaten straight from the can if I needed to conserve stove fuel. I have a large box of candles and holders tucked away right next to my extra flashlights and batteries. I purposely picked a house in a flood free area and we are not prone to hurricanes or tornadoes here. I do have things I would like to do still, but i have the basics covered for a lot of scenarios. -
National Preparedness Month - Are you prepared?

@bud I have been working on an Amazon list of this sort and I know a few possibilities. It really depends on your intended use. Why don't you PM me some info on how you want to use it and we can talk about some options. I would rather not have anyone post detailed planning publicly. Thanks -
If you decide to do a rifle and want to go new, but cheap, even some thing like this CVA Hunter 7mm-08 Remington Break-Action Rifle for $229 should do. Though you could probably get something in a bolt action or semi used in the same range. https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/cva-hunter-7mm-08-remington-break-action-rifle#repChildCatid=1028838 I will leave caliber discussions to the experts. I have never coyote hunted myself. Dad has taken a couple, but he has done it with his shotgun and his .444 levergun. Neither of those are ideal, but he had them close at hand.

Well they issue 15, but one goes to a conservation club and another to a young sportsman. So I am guessing pretty slim...

Depending on local rules and other wildlife in the area, trapping might be an option. Just be sure you are not gonna catch your dogs or neighbors pets. Live trapping might be best. Then your 9mm could be used to dispatch them. And mistake catches could be released.

If all goes to $hlt, you are correct. Some people will pretty quick decide that the world is their playground. All the sickos and violent minded will not be held back by threat of government punishment. On top of the worse case though you have to look at more temporary issues. I know tons of people that would have trouble if a bad snow storm stranded them without power in their house for a week. They do not have flashlights, extra food, alternate heat source, or even extra blankets. -
.222 is a weird vibe with people. Some see it as a dying caliber, but some love it. Does it say Series ? after the 24V on the gun? On Gunbroker looks like $460 to $550 Is the range of recent sales ( actually sold units). Some with and some without scopes. Condition varried, but most were pretty good looking. I have a couple 30-30 over 20ga units and a Stevens. 22/.410. I want a .357 over 12ga. Fat chance I can afford that. 24's are great guns. If you are interested in reading more about the history, this is a great site. http://www.savage24.com

Contrary to popular belief that bright green works, Tyrol Blue (a 1967 Pontiac color) with red metal flake overlay seems to be most effective. They can't be fired semi or full auto though (it ruins the paint job). Preferably they should be shot out of a Savage Model 1903 slide action rifle for best effect. Few know this rifle was designed to quell the first zombie uprising that has since been redacted from history by the government. Always remember though, it is hard to eat bullets past the 1st one.... -
September is National Preparedness Month. Whether you want to plan for a house fire, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, electrical grid failure, societal breakdown, or zombies, it is a good time to make or review your plans. Ready.gov has some good info https://www.ready.gov/september The CDC has a page https://www.cdc.gov/phpr/areyouprepared/plan.htm The Red Cross has a page https://www.redcross.org/get-help/how-to-prepare-for-emergencies.html Or if you so desire you can visit my site where I cover a wide range of disaster readiness info based on my disaster level methodology. I am celebrating one year of running the site this month. (Shameless, but totally transparent plug) http://leveledsurvival.com Wherever you decide to look, make a plan for possible emergencies. When they happen it is too little to late to make it up as you go. -Ronald

Levi Strauss Joins In Anti-Gun Nonsense

When I worked at a western store back in the 90's, we sold the girl pairs. I just remember they sure looked good on a few girls I knew... I don't wear jeans much any more. I wore Wrangler cowboy cut for a long time. I end up in cargos mostly now on weekends. -

Might even look into something like this if you are able. Says starts at $17.50 for a 1st shift warehouse order picker. Paytons in Portland TN https://www.simplyhired.com/search?l=gallatin%2C+tn&job=K7gBlGQLtpHjPXLpQ_eH8qbsfWuRxwhOhy-zt-k1ntnrOjJopmx-6g Looks like delivery semi drivers are complaining about it being slow to get unloaded by employees there, but no idea about working conditions. I have done worse for much less.

I rent a rank from Holston Gases up in E TN. I think $65 a year fee for the 300 lb (I think, been awhile) . I used to have 2 100lb tanks, but no one would fill then around here unless I drove them in in a properly secured truck. Holston fills this one whenever I call for a small trip fee plus gas cost. Could I do better on price..maybe. Has Houston Gases been around forever and is 2 miles from my house..yes. I used to have such a hard time getting tanks filled that it is worth it to me to avoid the hassle. That being said we only run propane logs off ours. A yearly topoff is good. I usually do the spring sale they do each year. A friend has propane heat, water heater and such, so he bought a tank and shops prices every time.

Don't be fooled, there are lots of East TN members here. Some are just quite until they see something that catches their eye. A benefactor membership was a great investment for me. More so in meeting good people than even buying or selling.

Just off the top of my head, have you looked at what music stores pay? Rapport and music knowledge useful there... plus some stores let you schedule lessons. I used to pay a pretty penny for my son's lessons

My son actually took his first deer with my Father-in-laws 9mm Hi-Point carbine. I have always heard they are reliable bricks
