Even though I obviously like this idea, Another thought on 'scavenged' ammo is to be set up to pull the bullets, melt them, cast buckshot, and load buckshot shells with the retrieved powder. Not ideal to mix a bunch of powders, but we are not talking about normal day-to-day life. Not a lot needed to do this small scale. A perfect scenario might be doing both. Use the ammo you have guns or adaptors for and recycle the rest when you can safely set up to reload.

"Smoothbore" I think is the term. No problem. I keep looking. I need to pick up a set myself. I at least want to do the 12ga that let you shoot 20ga and .410

Welcome from NE TN!

No first-hand experience, but lots of reading. One thing to be sure is that the adaptor is rifled. At one point some were not that were out there. Obviously that made a huge difference in accuracy. Of course these seem aimed at emergency situations, so some degradion in accuracy would be acceptable since it would be a last ditch effort. There are several makers out there. I think Short Lane seems to be one if the best. https://www.gunadapters.com/ They also make a12ga to 209 blackpowder primer cap. So you can convert your break action shotgun to a muzzleloader. It is an interesting SHTF idea I have seen. https://www.gunadapters.com/12-gauge-to-209-muzzle-loading-adapter-1/

Great. Love to hear about it.

My best friend in high school was an alcoholic by 16. He never finished high school. He is the same way. He never takes responsibility for his actions. He has 5 kids now and no long term job. He keeps blaming this or that for losing a job when actually he usually gets mad and quits. It's bad to lose a friend no matter the circumstances. My thoughts go out to you and his family.

Then use another trick I learned. Get some brush killer. Use a liquid med syringe (type used for little kids) to fill one of those green flower stem water things. Then pop that on a piece of the vine where you have freshly cut the end. The vine will suck it all to the root. Good on small batches. Repeat until destroyed. Hard to do on a bunch though. I would obviously wear latex gloves to do this. Lol.

Anyone use Ar500.com Armor ?
Ronald_55 replied to Ronald_55's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
@Danger Rane So do you know what models you have? -
Congrats! You are good then. My place has poison oak, poison sumach, grape vines, ivy... lol. On a serious note, if you see the base root, the best way is to burn that root out with a hot long-term fire. Dig around it and use a bag of brickets topped with kindling and then larger pieces of wood. So far sprays and such have only killed out the vine for me, not the root.

I have been seriously looking at some armor to add to my gear. Rarely am I really looking at tactical style gear. I like to be a little lower profile than that. So I have no experience with it. I also need to keep it in a budget that keeps me out of the dog house. My better half does not approve of my, as she calls it, "crazy ideas." I fully know the old "you get what you pay for". That is why the prices I am seeing from AR500.com make me ask. I see sub $200 plate carriers with level III armor plates. I know the carriers are not ballistic, so that explains part of it. So does anyone have one if these? Do you like it? Is it comfortable? I have a gut, so that is a worry for me. I don't want it riding up to my chin. Btw, I did look st some older posts, but they were old enough that I thought it wise to get updated info. Thanks in advance

National Preparedness Month - Are you prepared?
Ronald_55 replied to Ronald_55's topic in General Chat
I hope to get to something like that soon. I know I can live without electricity though. So I am conpleting those plans first. -
Not on topic, but try the coffee at Weigles at Exit 398 (Strawberry Plains)..good stuff...

Could you not make the owner responsible for cleaning up the dump as a sale requirement or make them set aside so much money toward you doing it? I have heard of that before. If that 3.6 acres/2br was close to me 42k would be a steal.

Are they the "Red Man "or "Skoal" sub-species?

You beat me to it. And you are so right about prep water. It takes more than you think to boil beans or pasta. If you have access to a natural water source be sure to put back water purification chemical or bleach. Having to boil all the water is very labor intensive. -

I have several of those p-38s around in my kits. I store a mix of ready to eat canned (home and store) food, dry food (pasta, beans, etc. ), S.O.S bars, and freeze dried stuff like Mountain House makes. Taking it all into account I try to have roughly 60 days at the moment. I am adding dry goods as I have space and funds. They require much less rotation if stored properly. Water is a big deal and I keep looking for better solutions to store it. The Mountain House stuff is not cheap, but is reserved for my "get out of Dodge" on foot supplies. The S.O.S. bars ( http://amzn.to/2omzxQj) are stocked in my car bags since they require no prep, have a long life, and can stand up to the heat. -
Levi Strauss Joins In Anti-Gun Nonsense

Never think you had it the worst. About the same age my Mom bought me 5 sweatsuits to wear to school. The sweatshirts and pants matched in color. Maroon, forest green, red, navy, and black. They were not even the elastic waist type, these had strings. I had to constantly keep pulling them up. I pretty much resembled a fat blob of a single color. I wore those from the fall all the way until it was too hot to in the summer. -
I saw this article before. Man they have their priorities spot on. I mean no one needs to find the Zodiac Killer, but everyone needs movie memorabilia....
