That Cash for Clunkers always pissed me off. Not because they gave people cash, but because the "clunkers" has to be rendered inoperable by something like putting liquid glass in the engine and running it a few minutes to destroy the engine. Then they had to be crushed. Lots and lots of good spare parts went down the tube. Now try finding a decent size junk yard with a large stock of anything in the last 20 years is a wild goose chase. On top of that a lot of the "clunkers" that ended up coming in were not the low gas mileage units they wanted off the road. Or they were running just enough to get on the lot instead of to the scrap yard. Basically the program did little except to give the car industry sales and feed the steel scrap to China. -
I buckled a while back on a great deal on a DPMS 16" barreled .308. Really wanted 18" minimum, so I may have to swap it out later Your looks nice. I did not feel like trying to navigate the AR-10 compatibility maze and build one.

Same thing happened when we got my wife's 2012 Prius. One out of warranty and 3 years old was only $2k less than brand new. Plus we could pick what we wanted on the new one. Made no sense to not go new. Rates were lower on new too. -
Likely not a rattle snake. Wrong head shape. Plus coloring is off for either 2 types that are listed as being found in Tennessee. Timber Rattler Pygmy Rattler

I imagine him having a 2 liter Mountain Dew and a serving bowl of sugar for breakfast every morning to have that much energy. lol He seems like a big kid at heart just getting to do something he loves, If I could consistently shoot 10% as good as him I would be estatic.

Not to sound jaded, but this account joined an hour ago and is offering $500 in bullets free....... @GlockSpock

Back then if you were too stupid to fight your way out of a wet paper bag you died early.... not now. Plus there was a much larger family level firearms training. Your Dad, or Mom, taught you to shoot because it meant one more person to hunt for the meat that they needed to survive. Now, that is not to say those people were trained like a soldier, but they knew which end of the gun went boom and to not point it at things they did not want to kill.

A Vehicle as a means of self defense
Ronald_55 replied to Randall53's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I am confused... Are the guys in that video pulling them from the car not wearing Police labeled gear? I know this is just an example, but is it not the reverse of the situation? Though some context as to why this particular car was swarmed, windows smashed, and tires slashed would need to be in place to know what went on. -

No one protesting that got a video that justifies his actions is going to come forward. If he is lucky a concerned citizen bystander might have got something on film. Otherwise this WILL be a VERY uphill battle for him. In addition to his employer dropping him, I foresee his car insurance doing it also. Every business he works with is going to make him a pariah. On the other side, when civil cases come forth, I am betting a well versed big time lawyer is supplied to the protester by unknown sources. In addition, we can look for much larger protests in this area to show opposition to him. Plus with the last few years, most police officers will be shy to stop the protesters for fear of being dismissed and seeing lawsuits themselves. They need a paycheck for their families too. -
I get to retire 5 years after I am dead...... Seeing the costs my Dad paid to keep my Mom on insurance after he retired, I know there is no way. I think it was in excess of $900 a month. He still ran basically a full time job doing landscaping just to cover that. With my bounced around 'career' I have only been able to build so much of a 401k. Hopefully we will not still have a mortgage and the kids will be on their own, but there is no guarantee in any of that. All it takes is one bad medical issue and all your savings is gone. I like eating, so makes me nervous.

My Recent Retail Ammo Experience (August 2020)

It is capitalism, so it is what it is. The thing that will burn people up is to find that a lot of these "pros" that I know a bit about in my area are pulling a disability check but are fit enough to run around flipping ammo and guns. It burns me that on some of those guys, I am paying for them to sit there and get ammo to flip. By the way, I have also heard several accounts that are much more chaotic than David's. People running through the clothing section trying to shortcut to the ammo aisle. Not quite Black Friday at Wal-Mart bad, but close. -
From the WBIR article. "The property, part of an incentive to open in Blount County, will return to the Blount Partnership" So basically, the deal was never even really done or else he would own it. I am guessing he got some up front cash and has burned through all that. Makes me wonder if they published that on 9/11 to lower itsimpact. Also which politician benefited from the original announcement of job creation.

Cute kids. Congrats, Makes me tired just remembering having a newborn in the house. lol

I do think the 30-30/20ga covers the widest range of things in this area. Only better I could wish for is they made a few with 12ga barrels. They also made a .308/12ga option toward the end of making the Model 24, but finding one of those is not likely at a price I would want to pay. I have others in different calibers, but they are not quite as versatile, but it is still a fun time shooting them.

I can say it does good sitting on top of a 20ga barrel on my Savage 24. (Not mine, but looks just like it aside from my scope)

If you haven't seen the needs to be prepared before, you may have changed your mind this year. Take a look at suggestions for preparing for disasters. I detail info on my site: http://leveledsurvival.com/2020/09/01/september-is-national-preparedness-month-and-it-means-more-than-ever-in-2020/ Planning by the Levels Emergency Kits FEMA also has info on Ready.gov: https://www.ready.gov/september#:~:text=National%20Preparedness%20Month%20(NPM)%20is,%22Disasters%20Don't%20Wait.

Widener’s Reloading/Shooting Supply Fire
Ronald_55 replied to Ronald_55's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I am guessing with a ton if powder on site that I would question the safety of a lot of the items that "survived". Even brass might have gotten to hot and have unseen flaws now. Not really sure how widespread it was and what areas also got drenched by the fire hoses.
