I have a package coming in from NC. It went from Ashville to Greensboro last Friday.. Ok odd, but not bad... then showed up in Memphis today.... I am in Johnson City..... They could have just about tossed it to me from the interstate as they passed.

This is the reason I don't loan tools. I either never get stuff back or it looks like they drug it behind a truck. Just curious, what did he do to let it rust up?
-
Yep. I have had things sell out before I could simply SIGN INTO my account at places. I started going ahead and setting up accounts at lots of potential places just in case.

We sold an in box trampoline on Facebook Marketplace back in May or so. Priced it a bit above what we paid 2 years before just to be an even number. Sold in 30 seconds and lady wanted to pick up in 20 minutes. I had messages about it for days even after wife closed the ad. We had no idea they were so hard to get then. Could have probably doubled the price. Hopefully her kid loved it. Mine had simply outgrown it by the time we bought it to replace one damaged by the wind.

So I admit to being pretty hot headed in my younger days. I used to say and do stuff that I knew would blow up the situation. I have since learned to ignore a lot of idiots in the world. Makes me happier and removes their validation. When being in any type of "altercation", your actions are all you can control. I think one misstep, like in another recent thread, is your response. Probably seemed appropriate at the time but it just antagonized him and moved the situation along. Remember in lots of cases it might end up being your word against his and maybe he is a better storyteller than you. Especially when you are carrying, you have to remember that the first rule should be to avoid situation where you need to draw your weapon. What if he had been carrying his gun and immediately opened fire when he saw yours. From your seated position, he might have the upper hand. Now you were the one that pulled a gun and he responded in fear for his life. Or at least that is what he will say after he tosses the tire iron back in his trunk. Whether you can tell your side might simply come down to how good his aim is. I am leaving mine here just because. I guess I missed reading @GlockSpock's response. Sorry

I try to avoid doing queries on urls that are trying to get around other issues just in case anyone is watching. Might not really make a difference, but doesn't hurt.

I sorta stopped going after threatening to stab the scoutmaster when he said they were gonna hold me down and cut my hair... I meant it and still do. That one event probably taught me more about life than all the badges could. Do you have the backup domain with a different registrar? I am afraid some of these are gonna cone down to the killing it at an account level. That means they can kill all the domains of whoever they attack. So many people end up running clusters of similar sites and for cost and ease run them all one one host and one registrar. Often those are one in the same too.

Just found out my cousin's husband passed from it. I think he was 52 with no pre-existing conditions. His mom died in December. Not sure if it was Covid. It just keeps getting closer to home for me. About once a week I get a message about extended family dying from it.

Not a rifle, but added a .22lr conversion for my Beretra 92FS/M9 a while back. Added 2 HK 416ds and 2 S&W M&P 15-22s also. Not sure I listed my Savage 3c above either.

Despite whatever I find out, the first trigger pull might involve zip ties, a 2x4, and a long string.... @peejman Some people have all the cool toys.... That reprorubber looks cool if it was not twice the cost of cerrosafe. I assume is is not reusable. That is one upside of cerrosafe. @gregintenn Thanks for the tip. No a .308 projectile will not drop down the barrel. The extractor does grab the '06, but the 06 does not seem to fully seat into the chamber with out a bit of a push, so then it is stuck and will not eject. I have been comparing other similar base size calibers to see what the rest look like. I may try to slug the barrel too. My worst fear is that this is some crazy wildcat caliber that I will never be able to match.
-
Yeah, not every day you see one of tge Remington ones. Thanks. I have been been meaning to get calipers for a while anyway. I had a cheap pair years ago, but they must have walked off. Do you have a way to measure the chamber besides casting it?
-
@Garufa So here is what I have... Try not to cry.... I have a Remington made 1891 model Mosin Nagant that has seen several modifications. If Remington Mosin Nagant does not ring a bell for anyone, you can find some details here: https://www.ammoland.com/2020/04/the-remington-mosin-nagant-an-all-american-pre-soviet-rifle/#axzz6ijlhHPdC Here it is in all its sporterized glory. Actually not a terrible job. A bit more finesse than a kitchen table Bubba job. Here is what it should have looked like new Why do I theorize it has been rechambered? See the pic of the receiver end of the barrel. It has been cut off so far up as to remove part of the Remington name and serial number. The bolt face also no longer fits the 54R's rim size. Also the fixed mag has been modified. The openings around the floorplate to the left of the red should not be there in a standard Mosin Nagant. Other changes made Front Sight Rear sight removed and replaced with a 3/8s (I think) dovetail mount. Someone spliced in a piece to fill in the cleaning rod slot that was exposed when they cut back the stock. And a recoil pad added I held out some hope that this was a Bannerman conversion since it checked a lot of the boxes. I do see some black on the bolt head which is the way they did them. Sadly, nowhere can I find the 30.06 caliber engraving that should be on a Bannerman. So I think this is a small batch or one-off conversion. Drop a piece of 30.06 brass in the chamber and the bolt will close...but not terribly easily and the brass will not eject. I tried some other brass I had (yes 54R too) .308, 30-30, 7mm Mauser. So far of those, 7mm Mauser was the only one that seemed to chamber correctly and would extract. So this leaves me in a guessing game of the actual caliber since there are multiple calibers that might fit that chamber including a 8mm Mauser. My next step I guess is to break down a buy some Cerrosafe and cast the chamber to get a good picture of it. This will be my first time doing that. Guess I finally need to get some calibers too. My retired machinist dad probably got a chill just from me admitting I do not have any. lol So I knew going into this that the barrel had been cut indicating a rechamber. That is not a surprise. I just hoped it was a cut and dried 30.06 and move on. So thoughts guys?
-
@Garufa I will try to get some pics and details up a bit later tonight.
-
Nope I agree that there are better actions. I would never rechamber one (or any rifle) myself, but the one I have gotten already is. Other modifications to the fixed mag and such means that simply replacing the barrel would not be enough to get it back to the original chambering. Back when 54R ammo was impossible to get in the US, some guys cut some off the receiver end of the barrel and redid the chamber. I am sure they did it because they could. Same reason Mausers were redone. So does no one else have one hiding away shamefully in a closet?
-
@gregintenn Yep, but people still did it. I have an example I am working on right now. Why I wondered if anyone else did.
-
Yep I have 3 in the original chambering.
-
2 key things.. Amazing condition and Pre-64. Add those and buyer with Stimulus money burning a hole in their pocket I guess.
-
Yep they are. My ..22lr/.410 is not quite as nice, but it looks a lot like my 30-30/20 and .357/20.
-
Anyone here ever owned a rechambered Mosin Nagant Rifle? If so what caliber was it chambered for? I know a bunch were officially redone to 30.06 in the 20s by a company. Mixed opinions as to if that is a good thing. I see info about lots of other one offs. Then there are the crazy wildcat rechamberings some guys did back when the rifles were "buy one get 3 free" style surplus.

Despite the ammo issues, you got anything to reach out an touch someone at longer distances? I know ranges with longer distances are scare around here, but I think a long distance gun is always a good addition to the close up stuff. In honesty, I worry more about 200 yards if things go insane (even more than now) than 1000 yards really anyway. I favor the .308 or 30,06, but the whole 6.5 series would be viable too. The total price all depends on how much you insist on dropping on glass. I am not a $1200 scope guy. So something like this might get you intro'ed with a small investment. https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/savage-arms-axis-ii-xp-308-winchester-bolt-action-rifle-117414856#repChildCatid=6160609 Another option: You could go for a classic and still check off the .22lr box that I agree with Savage 24 .22lr over 20ga https://www.gunbroker.com/item/888546081 3rd option that settles in the middle. A lever gun. Choose your favorite caliber. .22lr, .22mag, 30-30, ..45-70, .444 Marlin, 44mag, or .357mag. Henry even makes a ,223 version now, but I think that exceeds your budget.

Sad thing on HVAC, is there is really not that much to a heat pump but the parts always seem to be stupidly expensive. I replaced interior blower motor a few weeks back for less than $150 when a HVAC guy wanted $400. It was some bolts and 2 wires. Took some calling to find a local place that sold to the public though. Most only sell to the hvac companies. I have found that from cars to fridges and everything in between it is less about repair nowadays and more about part swapping.

Not in Kingsport City. In a County school system close to Kingsport. I thought when an IT director took over as Superintendent when my kids were small he would really ramp up tech. Not so. We have 2 IT guys to cover 15 schools. My son was getting asked by all the teachers in 8th grade to fix stuff so they didn't have to deal with the IT guys. Being in IT, the stuff they seem to not be able to do surprises me.

This may just be "Oops we jumped the gun. We will get back to this in a few months". Or possibly, "We found a way to do this without having to let the public opinion be aired" If nothing else they tested the waters looking for opportunities. Maybe just other manufacturers to further scrutinize. Yes I am cynical, paranoid, and a few other things..... If you are not a bit, maybe you should watch the news more.

Part is our strange environment here in the Tri-Cities. At one point, we had 3 BestBuys in a 30 to 40 minute radius. Same thing with lots of other big box stores. I can understand places like Lowes a bit better because no one want to drive 30 minutes home with a truck full of lumber. With the additional push to online from COVID, it is expected to see place s consolidate. As much as everyone one would like to think, I hate to say that I doubt their 2A stance did it. They sell more soccer cleats than gun supplies and always have. Kingsport is also losing a lot of places to The Pinnacle which is only 20 minutes away. There is a D1ck's there now too. Also, I have heard chatter that Kingsport is not the friendliest location for retailers. I do not know specifics though. Eastman has been laying off for years now. Sometimes not enough at once to be a blip on the local news though. I have multiple family members working there in different capacities. It is not longer the "guaranteed a job until you retire" place it was in the 80's. Of course, where is? The outsourcing to other countries is also partially our own fault. I have heard that over 1/2 the people that take the BASIC level test to start hiring into operations can't do 3rd grade math. Out of the ones that pass, a significant percentage don't make it through the drug testing. So maybe a quarter of the people that they actually feel good enough about to interview make to the HR review stage. In the 70's or 80's something like 85%+ passed the same math test. Don't quote me on the numbers, but they are close. It is not longer the other "first world" countries that are kicking our arses in education. Plenty of "third world" countries are pumping out very competent people with Masters degrees or PHDs while our local population runs meth labs out of their car trunk. I have kids in school and the local education system is a joke. My kids spend more time every day killing time in a class than actually being taught, Once the standardized tests are done, they do NOTHING the rest of the school year. Plus, the teachers are no longer like it was for me growing up. Teachers used to spend a good bit of time every week building lessons and preparing to teach. Now, the teachers will run you over if you are in the road when the last bell rings. They do as little as possible. One of my son's teachers can't even be bothered to make it to his own virtual meetings set up for twice a week. Always has some lame excuse. That teacher also can't even seem to get the required 2 grades per week. He ends up fudging attendance as a grade it seems. This is not just COVID either, he did the same crap last year. How hard is it to give 2 assignments a week? It is a downward spiral. Ask any kid in college for a reason they are going into teaching and the ones being honest will say because they get the summer off. Forget "teaching the future leaders of our country". I will get down off my soapbox now.
