Anybody else gotta weedeat the whole yard before ya mow??
Ronald_55 replied to Steelharp's topic in General Chat
Our "yard" was so steep as a kid that Dad mowed with a pushmower hooked to a rope. So I have the "get it done" attitude. As long as my wife thinks it is good enough, then I don't argue. I have too much to do to worry about something that will be just as high next week. Grass is just grass. If I could I would just let it all grow up. -
Boats have been thought of and are a good idea, but unless the river or lake is really big then people can still see you and a good .308 would wreck havoc. Now on the ocean is nicer, but water become a HUGE issue since you can't drink it. The biggest worry I would have for a boat is mechanical issues shutting you down. Fuel would also need to be a concern at some point. I don't want to be adrift with no power to move about. Zombie swimming depends on the "universe" you are in. In the World War Z book, the walk on the bottom or float, but sometimes get lucky and climb up anchor chains into boats. One internal concern that was an issue at the Prison in TWD is that people need to be segregated physically so that if someone dies, they do not re-animate and kill others who them re-animate, etc. It also would assist in keeping down illness if you could keep people separate if there was a need. Hygiene is going to be pretty bad, so illness is going to happen. There are very few setups, that we could not find a way to breach given an unlimited supply of men and weapons. If I raided an air base, a few pieces of rigged up air ordnance would wipe out most any place the could be built int he apocalypse. The idea would be to be able to hold out and and do away with realistic live threats while keeping the zombies well at bay.

As you said, if you make a good location, people will come and try to take it. On the other side, living day to day with no protection is a recipe to be zombie chow. One idea that came up reading your post is that a large warehouse might be nice. Ans I know the perimeter would be difficult to defend, but the plan would be to build the levels of fortification INSIDE. That way it is less likely to be noticed, but still protected. Maybe a armored up conex as the central "keep". Still would nto deal with a tank, but hopefully tanks woudl be in short supply.

I did not find any deals that even appealed to me. Seemed like too much hype for so little.

Specifically handguns, but probably stricter than the rifle law. Not sure if you are a "licensee" or jyst private seller. https://www.atf.gov/firearms/qa/may-licensee-employ-individual-who-less-21-years-age-if-licensee-sells-handguns-and "May a licensee employ an individual who is less than 21 years of age if the licensee sells handguns and ammunition suitable for use in handguns? Yes. An individual less than 21 years of age may sell handguns and ammunition suitable for use in handguns. However, a person less than 18 years of age must have the prior written consent of a parent or guardian and the written consent must be in the person’s possession at all times. Also, the parent or guardian giving the written consent may not be prohibited by law from possessing a firearm. Moreover, State law must not prohibit a person less than 18 years of age from possessing the handguns or ammunition. [18 U.S.C. 922(x)] Last Reviewed September 23, 2016"

Well it seems I greatly over estimated the time needed. How did yours work, was it self propelled? -

Yeah, but how long did it take you? I have 4 that are around 3 ft each plus top roots. All are seasoned. -
Would it involve a Postman?

Avoid ramps. Had a buddy have a rider land on his head when the ramps slipped. He was not so good for a while. I have thought of using a come-along hooked to my garage rafters to raise mine. I want to drive a piece of rebar through 2 rafters and hook to it. -
Do you know about the class action related to the 700? If this has the older trigger, some people like it better I think. http://remingtonfirearmsclassactionsettlement.com/

I understand. Like you I am puzzled that you can't get a bolt easily. If you do eBay, looks like the stocks are selling for $60 to $100 or so.

So was this the co-worker no bolt gun?

Yeah mine got killed by a branch off onedof the trees landing on it. Tore the hood up bad. Actually ran still, but if they wanted me to have as new one, who was I to argue. -
If you don't mind ordering online, I keep seeing it pop up with free shipping if you order enough. Cabela's has the Federal Auto Match .22 LR Ammunition 325 round box for $19.99 right now. $5 shipping on over $99 right now, but they keep swapping between it and free shipping codes.

If I had been smarter back when it happened, I would have. Oh well, I make do. If I can get someone to grind out the stumps I have soon, then maybe that will ease it too. I give up trying to burn them out. 2.5ft - 3ft stumps take forever to burn out. -

The agent said that he had to pay a receipt. He said they wouldn't pay 1 if it wasn't for a similar unit. I should just went and got one at Sears and copied the receipt. Then went in and told them I want to not buy that 1 but by another one. Then either return it or exchange it. -

I wanted a bigger mower for my last one, but the insurance was replacing it and would pay 100% of a similar one or 0% of a zero turn. -
Funny, mine fell of the back of the truck in a field somewhere.

I agree on my front yard. Back is huge...front is moss and weeds. I gotta get time to add some lime, but I barely have time to mow. I am scared to use the bags of weed-n-feed I got a coupke years ago because of how much trouble it us to keep up with now. My wife just says "You wanted a big yard." I repeat back to her "I never intended to keep it all mowed". So is life, mow or sleep in the dog house..... -

I just strap my exhaust chute up to keep it from clogging and mow. Sometimes have to run back over it the opposite way in a few places to get it good. I have over an acre and I hate weedeating. So I do whatever to avoid it. The clumps of grass get broke up the next time I mow. -
I like to shoot A LOT when I can, so I never want to run out. I am no where near 60k...at least I don't think so...yet.
