  1. Agree.  I have read of NDs by persons trying to reholster.  Many times when carrying a 1911, I have taken it out of the holster at night and discovered to my dismay that the safety was in the off position.  Since I carried cocked and locked, could have been tragic for me also if I had reholstered and something got in the way like a shirt tail or jacket...my thinking is thats less likely to happen with a holster thats easier to put the gun back in.
  2. Ride of the Valkyries, of course!
  3. I'd love to do that.  Coffee and guns go well together.  Several places up around Rivergate are good.
  4. I read it last year...better than the movie, but damn depressing, lol.
  5. Welcome. I'm a father of a middle schooler and I also hope you'll be carrying at work soon!
  6. I got the same, and here's MY reply to his reply:     Sir, "Consider any proposal" to keep our children safe?  Come on, Congressman.  Are you that out of touch with those you represent?  All of this hoopla about assault weapons and magazine capacity has absolutely NOTHING to do with keeping our children safe at all.     Despite our political difference, I never thought you wee unintelligent, just misguided.  Please don't insult my or anyone else's intelligence by pretending that any of this is for any reason other than the first step in circumventing the 2nd Amendment.   Why do we allow parking lots at bars, that enables people to drunk drive?  Why do we allow commercials on TV that promote eating unhealthy food that promotes obesity in children?  Why do we allow movies and video games that are chock full of graphic violence?  The list is endless...   If you truly want to do something, go after these things, Mr Congressman. But eventually you will run out of things to blame, then what?>  Or better yet, how about promoting self responsibility for people instead of blaming something or somebody else?  THAT'S a novel concept, isn't it?  Leave our 2nd Amendment alone!  The American people, and particularly Tennesseans, will draw a line in the sand over this issue. Get on the right side of it.   Sincerely,   John Alexander     "A veteran, whether active duty or guard or reserve, is someone who, at one part in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount up to and including their life."  "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." -- C. S. Lewis (1898 - 1963)
  7. I think there is truth in the basic concept you propose. I doubt its absolute though.  Iphones pretty much work right out the box, with few exceptions do exactly whats advertised, and arent as easy to tinker with as Androids.   I used to carry 1911's (stlil own some) and carried an Android...now im carrying a FN 45 and an iphone.
  8. I got the 2nd Amendment response from Alexander.   Nothing really from Corker or Cooper. I agree, Lamar's has too much wriggle room.  They are all careful to not specify which weapons  are 2nd amendment, which is the way I think they will support a ban, by saying oh I support the 2nd Amendment, but just not AR style weapons, or large capacity magazines, etc...
  9. Thanks, guys, I am going to order the kit from CSS.
  10. I'm trying to learn about mods top the Saiga 12, and I would appreciate any help from those who know...as i understand it, the Saiga is manufactured with a folding and/or collapsible stock, a pistol grip, and a trigger that is in a more forward  position, but in order to meet the ATF's "sporting Use"  rules, certain modifications are made prior to importation into the US,  specifically, installing a fixed stock, removing the pistol grip and moving the trigger to the rear.   From what Ive read, it seems to me that there are two general methods of  :"converting" the Saiga.  One way is to just add a pistol grip/stock assembly and nothing else except maybe the forend grip.  The other involves moving the trigger as well to the original position on the receiver.  Moving the trigger supposedly removes some alleged problems with the trigger.   What do y'all think of all this?  Which way do you recommend and why?  Also, are there any kits in particular that you recommend?  Thanks in advance, TGO, for your, as always, expert help!
  11. Those are an idea...
  12. I think it would too, but sadly, Im not ready to buy yet...though I will keep those in mind for when I am ready...thanks!
  13. I've developed an interest in ..22 WMR rifles since I got my Keltec PMR-30 last year. I like the idea and looks of the Keltec RMR--30 carbine, and their magazine compatibility with the PMR-30, but like many things Keltec, they just aren't available. Also a fan of Ruger 10/22s, and wish they still made the ..22 WMR version of those! What ..22 WMR rifles or carbines do you recommend? I prefer semi auto magazine fed, but other than that, I dunno. I'm not ready to buy yet but I want to start my research now so I can start looking once I decide what I want. Thanks for you input, TGO!
  14. The fact that there are only 9 comments after his article on this site leads me to believe he is his own biggest fan, lol, with not much of a following.
  15. Ditto!  But in my case a complyetr waste of time.  Doubt Ill go back...OMG saw a Keltec PLR16 for 1400,.
  16. Well, probably what REALLY happened was the ammo was on the shelf when the innocent shopper walked by and it spontaneously discharged and tried to kill him. If not that, then a gun on the other shelf loaded itself and attacked as they are prone to do.   This is typical and a known fact that ammo and/or guns regularly try to kill people.
  17. I would look at pre-positioning as much stuff as you can at his place in advance, and pack what you need to get you there...might make for a lighter load, or enable you to have more when you get there...
  18. I've had a FNP45 for a few years now.  It’s a hog, and sometimes I try carrying something smaller, but I always go back to the FN.  15+1 rounds of .45acp ready to go is very reassuring, lol.  Mine is the USG model and can be carried round in chamber. either decocked (first shot - double action) or cocked and locked and on safe(single action), like a 1911.  I have shot a variety of ammo through it and it is very hungry and eats anything so far.  Yeah is heavy, but honestly, it’s close to the same weight with 16 rounds in it as my full size 1911 is with 8 rounds.  Guess the polymer makes a difference, lol. Mine has a rail...Its kinda thick for concealed carry, but I seem to get away with it OWB at 330ish position.  Mine has a rail I don’t use.  Only thing I want to do is put some better sights on it.  It came with plain white dot sights, and I either want some kind of fiber optic or night sights to help my tired old eyes!  Mine bought before the FNX or FNS series...when I got it there were 2 of their 45s available.  One was I think the FN-45, which came with 3 14 round mags and only has a decocker, no safety, and the FN-45USG which came with one 15 round and 2 14 round mags and also a safety/decocker.  I liked the safety/decocker better because of its versatility in carry options.
  19. I like those too.  Cant hardly wait for the journal sequel...
  20. Does anyone read this one?  Its online in serial format and quite good, if you like the zombie scenarios.  Particularly impressive is the author's knowledge of firearms.  Check it out if you havent already:  http://allensrepositoryofstuff.com/author/allensrepositoryofstuff/
  21. NRA sure has its shortcomings, but overall, the sheer amount of money they are able to throw at the gun rights issue has to help some.  Do they always get it right? Of course not.  Mistakes are made.  Overall, I think they are a worthwhile organization.  Thats not to say that there are not other viable ones as well.  I am a life member.  I want to join the TFA soon so as to get more local (TN) help.
  22. Sheesh, 139.95 at Amazon?
  23. I have had the same problem with some mags. ANd with some the mag doesnt rattle until I get the last round in, then it will rattle...
