Kentucky Officers Mourn Loss of Doughnut Truck
Defender replied to volshayes's topic in General Chat
I like it when someone can poke fun at themselves....Here's an update on this story: https://www.wkyt.com/content/news/Krispy-Kreme-offers-to-console-Lexington-Police-with-more-donuts-after--503772381.html -
no, they ask you to check at the door and they put a tie in it.

Merry Christmas, TGO folks!

Well, that DID sound bad didnt it? Lol, maybe not accidentally, but he said he had ordered one and it wasnt due in for a while then ran across one in stock locally so he bought that one. Then discovered there was a high restocking fee on the backordered one even if he cancelled it. So to avoid the extra fee, he went ahead and bought it and sold it to me at cost.
-
Not sure why I did it, but i picked up another 365, lol. Ran across someone who had accidentally bought 2 and got it from him at his cost, which turned out to be a little bit less than i paid for my original one. Gotta go shoot this one next weekend, I hope. The wife wants to shoot her Shield .380EZ so it may be a range date!

I thought hard about going with .300 blackout when i was in the market for a AR pistol. In the end, not having to start stocking a whole new caliber won out and I stuck with 5.56mm as thats what I have my AR carbine in as well.

Definitely could have been. His wife said no, but she was there... I thin k a more noble way to go, if it HAD to happen, would be to go find hard drug dealers and have a shootout, lol. No, Im just kidding, Im not advocating that.

I lost my best friend to suicide a couple years ago, on Christmas Day. He was 68, fully retired and no financial worries at all, with some health issues, but not terrible or life threatening ones. Life was good. We talked daily and although he was retired, we met at least weekly for lunch and a gunshop visit or a gunshow. As close friends sometimes do, we had talked about many things during the course of our friendship, and in the distant past, including suicide. He and I had both made the comment, usually after reading about a suicide in the news, that we would never do that, unless that we were to be suffering from some incurable, painfully unbearable disease like end stage cancer or something, that we might consider it. Flash forward to the week of his death...he had the flu or a cold and was taking meds, along with some fairly minor pain meds due to his hip. Around that time, I had sold my pocket pistol to fund another gun purchase, and was jonesing over not having a pocket pistol, lol. On Christmas day, he had told me to come over and borrow one of his Shields until I could find one i liked to buy. That very evening, his wife frantically called me telling me he had just blown his brains out. I got there about the same time the cops did, and ended up cleaning up the scene as soon as his body was removed. She said they had been in the garage, where they smoke, and she had went inside to make them a sandwich, when she heard a noise, and ran back out to see him sprawled in his chair, dead. All this to say, that sometimes the signs just arent there. Maybe sometimes they are, but i was probably closer to this guy in some ways than his wife, and she nor I saw anything to indicate he would do this. Hell, I was supposed to come pick up a gun from him the next day. Looking back, Im thinking that feeling bad from being sick, plus pain meds plus other meds, apparently just weakened his mind. Im sure he didnt plan it or give it much though....probably was hurting, felt bad, and just in the spur of the moment, made a permanent solution to a temporary problem and said f*** this! . So sad. Playing out scenarios in my head over and over, I am convinced it was a decision of the moment with no forethought or planning. Had it been thought through, I KNOW he would have had more concern for his wife and friends and would have went somewhere else to do it with less visual trauma and minimal mess to clean up. He would have not wanted his loved ones to see what we saw that day. While I feel terrible about it to this day, I can see nothing I could have done or seen as I dont think there were any warning signs.

Im also not overly fond of the sights, they are bright but i dont care for them. ...but Im not sure what I would like to put on mine. What are your plans for that? Ive got some fiber optics on my Performance Center Shield and I really like those.
-
Ive had one for a few months now and have shot maybe 500 rounds or so...maybe more. No issues. Mine is very difficult or stiff to rack the slide, dont think anything is wrong with it, just a stiff slide to rack. I was carrying a 9mm Shield just prior to this and the 365 doesnt seem any more difficult to conceal than the shield. I ran across a great sale price on Brownells.com on 12 round mags and bought several with free shipping. Its become my EDC, although i cant seem to get comfortable with it as a pocket pistol, so, using a IWB strong side, 4 o'clock carry...

I hope you all have a happy and safe Thanksgiving, full of love and family and friends.

MPD Director wants to roll back guns in cars
Defender replied to Capbyrd's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
First, the only time I leave my gun in my car, its secured in a lock box secured to the vehicle. And then only for quick trips inside a place that i cant carry inside, never overnight. I try hard NOT to patronize places that I cant carry, but they are not completely unavoidable. I know that is not truly secure, but Im hoping its a long enough deterrent for those fairly brief trips. As far as guns in cars goes, I have many friends who are not 'gun' folks, and very few of them even know they can have a gun in their car without a HCP. Most probably think you have to have a HCP, and the other few dont care either way. I dont really think this law has all that much effect on whether or not most folks carry in their cars. People who do this, do this, regardless. How many folks do you know who have a 'truck or car' gun? -
So who has gotten a lifetime HCP?
Defender replied to Raoul's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
BTW, this is not the same as the LEOSA credential process. But Tennessee discourages LEOSA carry by making the process more difficult than the law requires. -

TCA 39-17-1351(x)(5) is the part of the law. I find several other references but I am having a hard time tracking certain details down. I know I qualify and would like to save a 100 bucks and get a LEO lifetime for 100 when my renewal time is here. Here's an excerpt from the fee chart that also shows this: Original 8 year $100.00 Military 8 year $68.00 Lifetime $300.00 Military Lifetime $268.00 Retired Law Enforcement Lifetime $100.00 Renewal When you renew your permit, the new expiration date will be eight (8) years from the date the renewal permit was issued. Permits expire eight (8) years from the date of issuance. 8 year $50.00 Military $50.00 Upgrade to a Lifetime $200.00 Upgrade to a Lifetime Military $200.00 Retired Law Enforcement upgrade to a Lifetime $100.00 -

Ive gotten to where I actually like Fear The Walking Dead better...

I have a variety of carry pistols in both small and large sizes. While I prefer the duty sized handguns in .45ACP or 9mm, th weight and size has begun to bother me some as I age, lol. I like my Shield in 9mm IWB, but now that I've got Sig P-365s, I like the increased capacity. Thats become my IWB daily carry, but I still carry my .380 Bodyguard in my pocket as a backup and also alone when I cant get away with the P-365 IWB.
