I'm like those guys who refuse to wear welding helmets when welding. I just close my eyes when I shoot!!

firearm choice and location for home defense
RoDan replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Mount it on hooks above the bedroom door (assuming you don't have really tall doors). I'm 6'2 and have no problem doing that. Noway a small kid can get at it. Or the closet idea that dwrd posted is probably a good option as well. -
Well, crap. Seems to me like you'd have to leave it. How else can you have the gun and the ammo in separate parts of the bus while going Through 'nois? They do not honor our permits, so it is like you don't have one. I do not know their laws, but I assume you'd have to have the gun and the ammo separated (ie. In totally different parts of the vehicle). What I would do is, bring the gun but no ammo until you get to St. Louis. Then buy a box of ammo and have it until you leave then figure out something to do with it like going to a range and shooting it up or something.

Yep, Range USA. I took my class there the first of January. Great place.

bingo! The main reason I don't have a 1911 right now.

Attention Tennessee !!!!!! I don't believe it

it was the egg plant Seriously though, I agree. I get sick of the media all the time. Especially now with the Communist Appeal being stupid and posting that database, just makes me mad. -
I will let him know, thanks. I think he just needs to shoot some different guns and get a better idea of what he really wants. I think the CW45 would be a great option for sure though.

I hope that is true about them moving production here, if that is I would respect the guns more.

The Wally i go to around here has had ammo both times I have gone the last couple weeks, trick is I go on Monday or Tuesday. At least that has been my observation. I bought 10 boxes of Blazer 9mm a couple weeks ago on a Monday. I asked the lady when they got it in, she said they got it in last night (Sunday). So, perhaps ask when the truck runs at your local wally world and then just swing by there. The hardest to get is the 550 bulk federal .22lr. I recall them having a couple boxes of .380 perhaps, but I wasn't looking specifically for it. Might have been .38 spl...

That's good to know- my father is looking for a good carry gun, and he is leaning towards a Kahr of some sort most likely. He is not too big of a fan of my Glock 26, nor is he a big fan of anything thick like that (XD, M&P etc). He isn't as much of a shooter as I am, but he enjoys it (I am flexible though, I love Glocks and 1911's etc.). He has been eyeballing a Kahr PM9 I think. We went to the range this past weekend with a buddy of his (Larry Langston from Guns and Ammo) and we shot several of Larry's guns, including a High Power in .40. My dad had mixed feeling about that one. He loved shooting the 1911s the best, which is why I think a Kahr would suite him (being a thin gun). He shot very well with the suppressed 1911. You can barely hear the gun cycle with muffs on, all you can hear is the the round hitting the backstop.

"Wal-Mart sucks!" -Tom Cruise, Rain Man. wait....or was it "K-Mart sucks!"?.... oh well, they both suck. I go for ammo. I don't eat their food made there, just the usual grocery odds and ends.

This is unfortunate, as the first round is the last round I'd want to have malfunction. I do love the way the Kahrs feel in my hand, a tad thin but hey, I shoot Glocks. The Kahrs just have a nice quality feel to them despite being thin, and light--they don't feel cheap. I have never held a metal one, but I probably wouldn't consider one because weight and size effeciency is very important to me.

1911's don't have much recoil unless they are lightweight versions. .45 is very tame, more of a push than a punch. Yesterday, I shot a friend's 1911 with a can on it. Thing was scary quiet and with the weight of the can on it, recoil was almost like shooting a .22. I shot it at Range USA, and the coolest thing about it was shooting with a suppressor in there you hear the bullet smack the back stop, and it is louder than the gun itself going off or even the slide cycling.

I would NOT worry. When I took the class in January at Range USA, a guy in my firing line shot the cable that pulls the target hanger assembly, and completely destroyed it. They had to get everyone to place their guns on the table and step out of the booths so they could move his target by hand down the range... He still passed. The max range we went out to was 15 meters, not yards I don't think. (Said "15 m" on the displays IIRC)

too bad shooting odd ball calibers is expensive, because it is no problem finding .32 S&W Long and crap like that around here. Try finding 9mm in anything but ball, and you're in a world of hurt. Same with .38. It is even hard to find .22LR.

Nope, not a straw sell/purchase. Gotta watch those Glocks, fingers tend to mysteriously end up in the trigger guard without warning. Too bad we don't train NOT to do that. Oh, and generally you'll shoot yer eye out before you shoot your ass off.

Yeah, no joke. That analogy holds about as much water as a sieve.

Shelby County Tn. Mayor wants tougher gun laws

Orange Mound! -
I agree. Get it passed.

"but but but I stopped the threat! How was I supposed to know he was prone to self destruct once being shot?!?!"
-
...or, you could go with some well proven stuff. I use the gold dot short barrel +P in my 642, it being a 1 7/8" barrel.

Incendiary--hit em anywhere, and they'll burst into flames!

good call, though too bad Glock doesn't make rifles...

"Misunderstandings with people who carry guns can turn ugly." WTF? Why did he start out by saying this?
