yep... that 1911 is about the same size alright. (and i love mine, don't get me wrong) but with a lot less in the stack. just sayin...

in my experience, and i've owned and shot most of em, CMMG is the bargain to have. still think the S&W for 800 is great though...

American Security BF line (Am Sec) and Sturdy Safe are likely the best made Residential Security Container available. One can purchase a truly hardened container for under 2K. American Security Burglary/Fire Safes (can't get the Am Sec link to work) Gun Safes, Fire Gun Safes, Vault Doors by Sturdy Gun Safe Mfg.

two questions: how accurate is this compared to running 5.56? after running the .22, do you do anything special to clearn the gas system in your AR? i've heard of guys running a mag full of 5.56 to "clean it out"... thanks

LOVE MINE! a screaming deal on a fantastic rifle. this is a 1:1 scale of my duty rifle, it's a bit lighter but w/ the BHO and the charging handle, the fast and postive mag changes (well made mags too) a solic TC barrel that will shoot one ragged hole at 75 yds. can change to any milspec stock, can drop in any milspec or better FCG. had the colt. sold it. no comparison. considered a conversion or upper, agree w/ above, a dedicated trainer for the same price as the upper is a good deal. and have younguns that can and will train with this rifle. not to mention that i could hand this to my 10 year old and she could easily cover a rear door and certainly discourage any unwelcome entry with ease. this rifle absolutely rocks in every way.

STI. unbefreakinglievable.

ok. i'll play. have both. (actually a third - see below) and while i think every man should own an M1A in some variant, i'm voting the bolt gun... you said, 'just punching holes in paper'. and agree w/ another poster, the money you save and the ease of setup are considerable. easy to scope and scope well. that being said, i also have the savage 308 tactical. i know i lot of guys who sh*t on the Savage. in my experience, you can't buy a better gun for the money. it'll easy shoot 1/4 MOA w/ the right ammo, the right rings and scope. the accu trigger is sweetness. put the right stock under it and you have a fantastic rifle... (just about any stock for that matter except the stock stock so, w/ the M1A, you will be between 2-3 bills before you are set up the way you are describing (MKIV etc) and while i highly recommend this setup, and wouldn't trade mine, mine is a gun i will go into harms way with. so money was less the point. (rapid follow up, and robust long range semi auto was the goal) look for a good Rem or Savage ( it'll rock your socks off... it'll make you feel very special smoking raw eggs at 300 yds) (The right M1A will do this too, by the way but for a lot more money) if you get the 700, look hard at the JA Enterprise stock... amazing stuff. super amazing for the M1A too, by the way... the best actually~ just my humble opinion... which ain't worth much, but hey. you asked. keep us posted... and whatever you choose, you will not be unhappy.

What is the purpose of this magazine cover...
crashgordan replied to frontier737's topic in Long Guns
yep... with the quality of the springs in these Pmags, you can load em, snap the cover on, and it pushes the rounds down into the mag just enough to take all the pressure off of the feed lips. in theory anyway, you can leave them loaded forever and when you pop the top off, they are ready to roll. no gradually stretched/out of spec feed lips. have several of the all generations of pmags, and i have never been disappointed. incredible mags. -
totally agree... this is the moment in time when the likelyhood of accidental discharge is highest... i like the snap caps drill. deliberately practice drawing and presenting the gun WITHOUT any trigger contact then reholster. When comfortable, advance to drawing, presenting, and pressing the trigger. take your time. with practice, it will become second nature, your finger will never enter the trigger guard until you are on target, but this takes practice. slow, smooth, deliberate. speed will come. also practice reholsters w/ deliberate finger placement outside the trigger guard... keep us posted

love mine. it runs fine for me, approx. 200-300 rds will really smooth it out. trigger is heavy, as it should be for a non-manual safety gun. it in no way affects rapid fire and effective fire to Center of Mass out to 50 yds. excellent choice for very discreet carry. an IWB, hip or front, will make it disappear. gun can rapid fire into COM 6 inch at 10 yds no prob. also agree with others, 9mm availability and firepower outweighs .380 option by a long shot. the new Hornady XTP and similar rounds (once widely available) will be the superior choice. until then, hydroshok, gold dot, ect, are good choices. The Kahrs have very steep feed ramps and will run ball ammo all day long, but can become somewhat picky w/ hollowpoint. The Powerball round solves this problem. My recommendation is that once acquired, break it in then test the round you intend to carry in it for reliability. my feedramp was polished to glass smooth and i can run pretty much everything out there. keep us posted with your choice!

Kahr.... hands down owned and carried most in the discussion here.

Anybody have any experience with this bag?
crashgordan replied to strickj's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
have it, and like it. seems that maybe the ballistic nylon is not quiet as robust, and i think the mesh/foam padding on the back is certainly not as heavy duty/snag resistant as the maxpedition... that being said, i'm not going to the sandbox with it, and it holds everything well... it's certainly a "shoot me first" sign and not very discreet, but it's a screaming deal and is holding up just fine! worth it. FWIW, for going 'low pro', i carry the Mountainsmith Tour in black/tan. carrys over the shoulder and converts to buttpack in a snap. have modified the interior to take the 5.11 modular kit for holster and mags... blacked out the reflective parts w/ textile marker. It works well but much spendier. Amazon.com: Mountainsmith Tour Classic Lumbar Series Day Pack for Hiking, Touring & School, Black: Camera & Photo -
FWIW: i did the 'run over' test w/ the pmags... and not just a quick trip over. stopped, turned the tires on top of the mag. dodge truck, gravel lot w/ crush-run. full and empty mags. window and without. both functioned after each test. they look a bit scuffed up, but whatever. i then went to the trouble, (and it was a lot of trouble) to break out the windows in the previously run over windowmag. still works fine. i try hard to break the stuff i use when at play, so when i'm at work, i can feel pretty confident about it. i'm sure there's folks out there who have pmags that 'broke' or didn't work, but as far as i'm concerned, i have a high degree of confidence in them. just thought i'd share...

good comments all.... +1 on "a little bit dirty" as CapByrd states... meaning carbon, not actually soil/dirt/lint/blood/sweet etc... have found the "gun scrubbers" to be generally overkill unless i'm presenting it as a gift. pulling every bit of oil out of the gunmetel is neither necessary nor recommended. personally, i'm very particular about functionality/reliability over clean... have AR's that are running 4k+ w/ only general wipedown, run wet and lubed w/ miltec (CLP is fine too). no function issues/no loss of accuracy as of yet. expect to be doing a clean shortly. that being said, i do not run steel case ammo (wolf/bear ect) and suspect that has something to do with this. that being said, if i was going to war with this rifle, it would be well cleaned (not stripped of oil) and out the door i'd go w/ a fair level of confidence regarding how long i can be out and how much love i can send downrange in relation to how spotless my rifle needs to be... my civilian sidearm is kept a bit more clean, typically cleaned after a range day, but this is for legal/liability/defensibility reasons. a filthy gun collected by the authorities after a self defense event is not something i'm interested in. no personal experience here, rather advise given by legal Counsel and folks like Ayoob. CLP is great for cleaning. miltec is amazing for lubing. as always, just my humble opinion.

. BTW, the PRI-G is said to restore old gas to refinery fresh. this stuff really is amazing, and as far as their statement on restoring, i can't verify personally, but know people who state this is true. this stuff is used for ginormous storage facilities, millions of gallon type stuff and bulk storage. i've refreshed 3 year old gas, no problem, but nothing older than that. that being said, i wouldn't be surprised. read about it... you can buy it by the quart and it treats hundreds of gallons per quart. it's used heavily in the marine world and military storage facilities. also used for treating diesel (PRI-D) and can be used in AV gas and kerosene. and by the way, my old tractors and motorcycles love it. start easily after long term storage every time. check it out.... Best materials for home when disaster strikes?
crashgordan replied to a topic in Survival and Preparedness
in addition to the above mentioned, *plastic sheeting (clear and black) and aluminum clad duct tape/or gorilla tape. good for sealing windows/doors, light discipline, sure i'll think of other things, but that's it for now... -
Potassium Permanganate + Glycerol both easily purchased. very stable when seperated. just a pinch of PP and a drop or two of G and you have FIRE. i carry a little bit of both in my BOB, use them often. plug these two into any search engine and instructions and videos abound. j~

stabil is the minimum.... i quit using it for long term (years) when carb/jet issues started popping up. PRI-G is absolutely amazing stuff. PRI Advanced Fuel Treatments will maintain fresh fuel for years if treated annually. i have fuel in cans that is 8 years old, still burns in vehicles fine.

agree w/ factory rifle for that kinda green

Am I a moron, or am I doing this right?
crashgordan replied to StPatrick's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
agree. professional training. worth every penny of the $400.00 you will spend on your next 800 rds. -
true that...

have each. ar15 - most widely available add ons and parts. of course quality of parts can range as high as you want. very versatile platform. options for gas impingement or piston... i'm a huge fan of the piston, to each his own... don't bother flaming me. sig 556 - awesome firearm, well designed and thought out. very robust, super easy to clean and takedown. piston driven and ubber reliable. limited aftermarket add ons but improving. HOWEVER, as with most european rifles, the charging handle is on the right side of the recvr... not a problem for some, don't care for it myself. i would change over to this platform entirely but for this reason... just me however. HK - very accurate, very sexy, very exotic, very spendy, and very very hard to get service and parts for. (read impossible). HK seems to care nothing about the civilian market at this time. too bad for them and for us. let me point out the Para Ordnance TTR rifle... Para USA, High-Quality Handguns: Special Forces and Law Enforcement it's really that good.
