  1. POF makes some of the sweetest 7.62 AR's you will ever lay your hands on... (if you are that lucky) check them out... POF-USA Patriot Ordnance Factory, Inc.
  2. just rec'd a repair back from them. no charge plus a spare mag for my trouble. i was not the original owner.
  3. THanks for the link Alpha7, i'm not able to find anything on pricing for threading however. Maybe UCSPUD has some ideas on this 'group buy' for threading...
  4. SCAR get some range time driving this gun, and you will understand.
  5. so, sounds like not likely to be backpacking with it?? The military modular system is excellent, but it is heavy and not small. that said, each piece can be used on it's own or combined with the others to greatly extend the temp. range of the system. new they run $500-600, i too have seen them on ebay for 125-150 range, depending on condition. The ones are cheeper than dirt look ok too, i've not examined one however. Someone here noted that the bivy sack w/ the CTD bags was not goretex, i don't have any way to verify that. maybe someone here can. I work with a unit that uses the Wiggy's bags... i'm very impressed with these bags. have ordered several. Wiggys | Manufacturer of the finest outdoor gear in the world | Sleeping bags | Extreme Cold Weather Gear | Fire Retardant Underwear tough as hell, don't mind being wet or handled roughly. not the lightest out there, but possibly the toughest. lifetime warrenty. PM me if you would like to know more. good luck!
  6. MacGyver asks the right questions. goto REI, talk w/ the sleeping bag guy, get in (try on) a few bags and get some ideas on what you want. this purchase depends entirely on what you are going to do with it.
  7. I'm in. let me know the details. and price. in Chatt but can get the upper to them. know another guy in Blount Co. who will go in too... thanks!
  8. yep.... appears to be old. i tried to verify if it is still a current survey, can't tell. but it appears to still be tracking votes.
  9. Probably old news, but this link is still hot as of 15 Dec 2009: The survey looks old, but it still up and counting... Obama's Attorney General Eric Holder has publicly stated that removing guns from personal ownership is one of his major issues. Vote on this gun issue question with USA Today, it will only take a few seconds of your time. Then pass the link on to all the folks you know. This upcoming year will become critical with the Supreme Court accepting the District of Columbia case against the right for individuals to bear arms, they should have refused it as unconstitutional. The USA TODAY Question is: "Does the Second Amendment give individuals the right to bear arms?" Here's what you need to do: First - vote on this one. http://www.usatoday.com/news/quickquestion/2007/november/popup5895.htm Second - launch it to other folks and have THEM vote - then we will see if the results get published.
  10. ok. so, went back and examined the 522. also corresponded w/ another owner who has one. You are correct. the upper is aluminum. the lower receiver is polymer. just my opinion, but i think the Sig specs are a bit misleading... they never mention the polymer lower. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The Look and Feel of the Classic SIG556 â„¢ in Affordable .22 Rifle SIG SAUER, Inc., the leading manufacturer of commercial, law enforcement, and military firearms fuels the demand for the legendary SIG556 performance but in an affordable .22 LR caliber with the new SIG522 semi-automatic rifle. Featuring SIG556 parts including a Swiss type folding stock and polymer forend on a durable metal receiver with integral Picatinny rail. The SIG522 provides the avid sport shooter plenty of action on a classic military style platform that give the look, feel and dependability of our full size SIG556. Products & Services ====================================================== hence the confusion. or perhaps i'm just ignorant to the german gun nomenclature. (probably it)
  11. i notice a color variance between the upper and lower. the Sig ad says 'metel' reciever. are the upper receiver AND lower receiver both metal?? held one just the other day. the lower felt like/tapped like polymer, but i'm getting conflicting reports... be certain, there's money riding on this....
  12. Got mine from you guys couple months ago. (two actually)...gotta say, you guys are great. $429 is a great deal!!!!!
  13. Hmm... So, I stand corrected! thanks Pal! just handled one yesterday, Sig 522 at Volunteer Ordnance Works. The receiver looked like metal, tapped it and felt it, rubbed it, petted it, sure seemed like polymer... Guy behind the counter agreed.... but what does he know right? that being said, I've read the Sig.com page on it, and indeed it stated Metal.... and for what it's worth, it was a damn nice feeling gun......... very tempting... if it was a platform i was already running, sig556, i'd buy it in a heartbeat. and for what it's worth, i've had a lot of time behind the 556 and if those Germans could figure out how to put the charging handle on the left, i'd sell it all and goto this platform. it's incredible how robust it is, and how easity to strip/clean/etc.... it really is nice. both of em....
  14. Holy Smokes, $419 is a screaming deal! the only better deal i know if that S&W is offering it in the high $300s for military/police types. I have this gun, and love it. i've had the colt/umarex, sold it. The S&W is an excellent rifle and i'm probably 1K rds in. I'm very pleased. I understand that they have recently released a threaded barrel version which i would rather have. of course this is only a cosmetic thing.... At any rate, you are correct. it is a 1:1 training gun for my duty rifle. optics/light/etc fit perfectly. The other advantage for me is that this is a standard AR FCG (fire control group) and can easily be upgraded or made to match your duty rifle. It's plug and play. Some things you may not know: the recivers (upper and lower) are polymer (as is the Sig 522) I did not find this to be a problem. most of the guns i own are poly framed That said it is a bit lighter, 5.5 lbs i think. The Lower receiver and receiver tube are one piece. It is a standard 6 position buttstock and by simply pulling the pin you can mount any buttstock on it you like. Put the magpul on mine to match my rifle, love it. Also, the barrel is a Thompson Center Match grade barrel (according to S&W) I would agree with this. The barrel is solid steel, not sleeved like so many. Mine is damn accurate. minute of coke can w/ rapid fire at 75 yds all day long. and that's with iron sights! just got better with the eotech or acog.... impressive little rifle. a freakin blast to shoot worth the money IMHO

    ak-47?

None Taken... as i noted in my post, all will have opinions, and i did not list the VEPR as a 'do not buy', in fact i stated it is indeed a very functional gun. I've had several. and am very familiar with them. this was a question regarding best buy for the money. not best gun ever/most historically accurate/most this or that. but as you are perhaps even more familiar then i, perhaps you could list here the attributes that make is so exceptional as compared to the list i posted. seriously. I'm cool with it. I'm sure i can learn something. There is far more collective knowlege here then i will ever begin to claim. again, as i said before, this is only my opinion.

    ak-47?

everyone will have different opinions... 1. Bulgarian SA-93, SLR-95, and SLR-96 2. Chinese Norinco MAK-90, NHM-90, NHM-91, MAK-91 3. Hungarian SA-85M these seem to be a better value in quality then the Romanian WASR-10, Century Arms GP-75, Century Yugo M70 AB and SAIGA and VEPR. All are funtional guns however... I've pretty much owned all varients of AK. I keep coming back to the Norinco. heavier reciever (1.5 mm vs 1mm) chrome lined barrel For good reason it is the choice of several elite 1st world spec ops teams who field this weapon. The Navy Seals and the Military Defense Council of Finland, and divisions of the SAS have all selected Norinco of China to supply Chinese type 56 AK-47 rifles, which are virtually identical (except for select-fire components) to the Norinco MAK-90, & without the MAK-90's thumbhole stock). Norinco's are now harder to get and going up in price because they are no longer imported. Bought one site unseen once, the piston was rotted out of it due to corrosive ammo use, (cheep and easy swap out) despite that, the barrel and everything else was pristine. kicks ass like a rock star. if you look for the norinco MAK-90 and have the choice, the square cut reciever has some advantages over the slant cut, but it's really a cosmetic issue. again, this is just my opinion based on experience. good luck in your search!
  17. what's your budget... that will narrow it down.
  18. you are welcome.... best wishes to you in your search. my point was this: the spring over the guiderod is not a big deal really... my experience w/ a few different taurus Pro models is different however, mover little parts that can launch themselves into oblivian... hands on is the best way to go. and the simpler, the better. keep us posted.
  19. Get the XD. i have glocks too, but the glock croud apparently didn't read your post about not wanting a glock. Respecting that, the XD is the best choice by far.
  20. S&W will serve you very well. The Kahr will serve you very well. of the two, go w/ the S&W. I have both. along w/ the XD and the glock. I won't own anything i won't go to war with, and they all work. Love the Kahr for how truly thin and concealable they are. you give up capacity. And they can be somewhat finicky w/ hollow point ammo, so be sure you try it out. the feed ramps are very steep, but again, just try it out. I love mine. my every day i'm in a suit carry. the S$W is great. the tolerance is kinda lose, but who cares! it'll eat about anything you feed it, it's got the adjustable backstrap so you can make it fit your hand just right. S&W is very responsive to repairs. turn around on service for one of mine was 10 days. Plus, you get more rounds on tap. just my humble opinion, again
  21. ok... this is significant and i know a lot of folks have commented here. all good comments about getting your hands on it, feeling it, and some instruction. one more thing i'd like to point out. As you are really very new at this gun thing, I would highly recommend you have someone at the gun counter or friend show you how to take apart and reassemble the ones you are considering. While the Tarus may be a piece of cake for the gun crowd here, i doubt it will be for you. This has nothing to do with you or how smart you are or how good the gun is. It is rather a statement with regard to the utter simplicity of the XD and the Glock. no tiny this or that to lose launch itself across the room. it's easy. even my 11 year old can dissable/assemble the G or the XD. and if you own it, plan to bet your life on it, you better be comfortable with how clean it is after you train with it. easy to disassemble/assemble will be easy to clean. if money is the problem, wait a bit, the difference will be well worth it to get something that is utterly simple. me personally, if i was going to give you only one, it would be the XD. i'll bet you would be easily 'minute of badguy' accurate fresh outa the box. just some thoughts.... wished we lived closer. we could spend the day at the range. i'd let you shoot every single thing that's been mentioned here, then you could pick the one that works for you
  22. i'll play. agree w/ all, i think a dedicated .22 is the way to go. have the S&W M&P AR .22 for my rifle training and the Sig Trailside for pistol training. the trailside is an incredible pistol in every regard, and though it is not a 1:1 training model of my duty/carry, the grip angle and controls are generally correct. the AR.22 is also an incredible rifle. it is 1:1 to my duty rifle as far as controls and function. accuracy is excellent. and for a bit more then the price of price of the conversions, i've basically added 2 additional rifles to the stable. just my humble opinion.
  23. +1 for all above responses... just for outside reading, sniper hide has opinions too... what was wrong with savages? - Sniper's Hide Forums
  24. love mine. awesome gun and quality, regardless of price. mine by the way, was a screaming bargain. i would put it up against any bolt gun worth 3 times as much. sub 1/2 inch/100 yds.
