  1. for a desk or truck gun, go w/ the GP100. for carry, go with the SP101 It's a beast to shoot with full on .357 and not something you will enjoy hours of range time with. That said, it can handle anything you can give it. it fits like a glove with the right grip. I've owned several. and i will never sell mine again. i'm always sorry.
  2. Slip2000 SLiP2000 Gun Lubricants and Cleaners this stuff is excellent for storage. it's excellent for pretty much everything. Being skeptical of all things "Shiny and New", i repeated the same test that they reference... SLiP2000 - Testimonials I cleaned, then lubed two guns, one with CLP one w/ SLIP2000, then ran them hard. I put em away dirty. months later, the CLP gun had problems and I had to morter it to get the bolt open. the SLIP gun functioned perfectly. upon inspection of the internals, indeed the CLP gun internals were dry to only partially lubed. A likely side effect of the heat drying and burning off the CLP? it is petrolium based. The CLP bolt had similar corrosion to the one referenced in the article. The SLIP gun was well lubed. show no surface corrosion of any kind. I was convinced. Now, don't get me wrong... i still use CLP. it's a generally proven product that functions most guns and will keep them running. but run a gun hard and then store it without cleaning, and CLP will fail. It really depends on what your goals are. I'm moving over to SLIP entirely. but the fact that CLP works, is easy to find and will keep a gun running makes it a great product for running a gun. just not storing one.
  3. go here: KA-1230TU this is a little known but amazing FH/Brake. They will rent you the tool for $10 to fit the brake and it simply pins on. completely removeable once installed, but won't move unless you want it to. very effective at suppressing comm bloc ammo flash. I'm very happy with mine. also, I should note, that when put in the jig for the pin setup, you will still preserve the option of threading at a later date, should you choose to do so. not sure what AK platform you are referring to. mine are MAK. when originally questioned about fitment, they replied very quickly the following: Should fit the MAK90 correctly, most of them have the .555" diameter muzzle. I would recommend measuring the muzzle to confirm however, Norincos imported around that time sometimes had the threads cut off in a rather quick/inaccurate manner to get through the new import regulations that were being passed at the time. There were some of them that were "stuck on the boat" and were shipped before the laws passed and arrived after the laws passed so they had to be modified on this end to meet the new restrictions. Those ones will be all over the place as far as dimensions. Another option is CNC Warrior they sell all the tools to thread, but part of the problem w/ a lot of AK's, particularly the chinese, is there may not be enough meat left at the muzzle to get good threads cut. ymmv
  4. couple of good options for this pricepoint: have and carry every day the Kershaw Tactical Blur Tanto. amazing knive, super fast assisted opener, razor sharp, American made. $60ish at walmart. more elsewhere. The SOG Pentagon Elite is an amazing knife with the strongest locking mechanism available, will not fail at over 1000 lbs. Stainless steel liner, multiple sizes available there are several SOG on the same frame and platform. around $100. imho...
  5. Whatever the local law enforcement is carrying. this will quickly stop any prosecutor from labeling you as a crazed man killer because of the "savage" round that you choose. your defense can state for the fact, that you, as a good citizen, carefully chose the same trusted round that those chosen to protect and defend the public carry daily in their sidearms.
  6. just another opinion here... i suspect that it has a lot to do with the sigma trigger... they are not a bad gun, but they are priced there for a reason. as you noted, all other platforms seem to give you no problem. suggest that instead of pushing, pulling or 'squeezing' the trigger, you try 'pressing' the trigger as if it were a button. there should be no movement of the gun while 'pressing'. when squeezing, you are moving all the muscles and bones in your hand. the whole platform will move. when 'pressing' the trigger, only the trigger finger should move, and only at the the 2nd joint. good luck to you, I train a lot of people with a lot of different platforms. The philosophy is "the one the works for YOU is the right one". of the various platforms offered, only ones i would have and do bet my life on are present. 8 out of 10 leave with the XD or the XDM for a reason. they really are excellent.
  7. RRA is good stuff. have one w/ thousands (6k+) and not a single malf. yes, i correctly staked the gas key. my barrel is chrome. it keeps on rocking.. i'd buy another. and yes, the government picked it for one of their contracts. not bad, and fit and finish is great.
  8. have the M&P 15-22. it is a terrific gun. not sure however that it will outshoot your 1inch at 60 yds. that sounds damn pretty good or a CMMG conversion! at any rate, the Colt Umerex sucks. The S&W is a solid steel Thompson Center match barrel. (you want the threaded one). upper/lower and rails are polymer. the gun weights about 5-6 lbs. the stock can be upgraded to whatever you choose, just slide the new one of your choice on. The FCG is standard AR, and you can drop any standard AR group in it, i put the RR NM 2 stage in mine, and it's sweetness. I also find it to be very reliable assuming your ammo is any good. It'll shoot everything i put in it, the exception is some of the bulk ammo (550 rd box) that give me a failure to fire about every 10 rds, this is the ammo not the gun. I have hard primer hits on every one and ran them again and still no fire). The quality of the gun is excellent. the mags are well made and a breaze to load. If you need a dedicated gun, this is a good choice. the upper will not work on your any AR15 lower except for the S&W AR 15-22. If you want a dedicated upper, agree w/ above, the Tac Sol is strong. don't know about accuracy, but have run one and like it very much. I went with the 15-22 because the manual of arms is the same as my duty rifle and it will accept the same FCG as my duty rifle. The only notable difference is the weight and also, the charging handle has a slightly shorter "pull" then on my duty rifle. bottom line for me was that it works works and i can train my kids with it while we are on the range together. Two guns. and i've seen this gun for less than $400. I think GT Distributors has them for way cheep. Curious what type off ammo you are shooting through your CMMG, what your barrel length and twist are. pretty impressed 1inch at 60yds. also, any special cleanup needed following CMMG runs? didn't know i the gas tube had to be blown out w/ a mag of 5.56 or any other special tricks?? thanks and good luck!
  9. try it. in a dynamic shoot, like 3 gun or house/street clearing, you can drive the gun to your target faster... it feels odd at first, but it seems to work. The new magpul AFG gives you a solid index point so you have very consistent holds every time... AFG
  10. "On Target" sounds like a great group!!!! i'll start trying to use them!
  11. You are correct Sir. thank you for pointing out my oversight. I went back and did more study... When the original event occured in March 2009, GA arms posted a letter on their website indicating they had layed off employees. All sales of 9mm, 5.56 and .308 were stopped. I know this because i tried to purchase. I don't know the number if any who 's jobs were affected. that said, the attempt to demil and destroy brass was real and brass sales were stopped, even if for a short time. and not surprising, it happened again just a few short weeks ago. Thanks again OhShoot.
  12. for those of you who weren't aware, several weeks ago, there was another attempt to scrap and destroy once fired military brass. The last time this happened in 2009, companies like Georgia Arms and others who depend on this supply of brass had major layoffs and the impact on the shooting community was significant with serious and long term implications. Many of us, myself included immediately contacted our elected officials with outrage and enouragement to stop this wasteful and unlawful act. As you may or may not know, attempts by any US contractor to destroy military brass was unlawful. (regardless of their agenda) Recently, this most recent attempt was quickly addressed and headway was made on behalf of the shooting community. Please read the following link: NRA-ILA :: Progress Made On Military Once-Fired Brass Issue Please take the time to contact your elected representative, in particular the two noted in this story and thank them for their efforts to see that the law is upheld. This fight will come again... and it is but only one small step in the effort to control guns. It is obvious to the socialists in charge that taking away firearms will be very tough. Hence, diminishing the supply of ammunition, controlling it (microstamping and all that it entails) or taxing to death those who use ammunition will be a seriously considered option.
  13. didn't mean to shut the thread down.... just my opinion. i'd like to hear from the collective here.... any critical feedback??
  14. OK. back to the original thread... My question is this: the officer asked you to take your firearm from its holster and hand it to him?? I have a problem with this. what is the right answer here?? I carry strong side (right). I have both informed and not, in multiple states, and so far, no problem with either. When i'm pulled over it is with all the windows down, interior lights on, hands on the wheel. If i inform, i state, "Officer, I am licenced to carry concealed. I am carrying on my right side. What are your instructions." So far, none have required my weapon. But if one ever does, I would like to know how to safely do this in a way that is completely non-threatening or risks me being shot with my hand on my gun, which by the way, will not look good for me, even if i was doing exactly as i was told. thoughts??
  15. There's so much to consider here... but back to the original questions: Clear or Hunker Down best case scenario is as follows: if you are in your home and DO NOT have children/dependents in other parts of the house suggest the following: 1. Secure your firearm 2. Secure your cell phone. call 911. tell them your address and location in the house. DO NOT HANG UP. everything will be recorded from the moment they pick up until you hang up. 3. if possible, turn on the light in your bedroom or hallway just outside of your bedroom to illuminate the doorway. if that's not an option, the bazillion lumen light you have next to your bed or mounted on your gun will do. do not leave your bedroom. or bathroom if you have retreated to that level. 4. move to concealment (the other side of the bed away from the doorway or similar) Cover is better, but not many of us have true cover in our homes... 5. call out LOUDLY: I HAVE A GUN. I HAVE CALLED THE POLICE. THEY ARE ON THEIR WAY. This is also why we don't hang up. it's on tape. 6. Cover the door with your firearm and shoot anyone who comes through it. The police will know you are armed, they will know where you are in the house. The intruder will know you are armed and that the police have been called. Any intruder who enters your room with the lights on knowing you are aware of their presence, knows you are armed and have notified the police, is there for one thing; to do you harm. Suggest that for legal issues, this is a very defensible scenario. it becomes a bit tougher but If there are children/dependents in another part of the home, if possible follow steps 1-3 but move directly to their room/upstairs, wherever they are.... I know that the big balled man in all of us wants to clear the house, but let's consider for a moment this: when i'm on the move, even though i know my house, i'm a much easier target then the turd who has hunkered down looking for a way outa there or is waiting for me. If i'm clearing with a lighted firearm, he knows i'm coming. and if, maybe just maybe, he gets the jump on me, things could get ugly or worse for at least one of us, and it's possible it could be me. I cannot imagine a worse nightmare then being injured and knowing my wife and/or family is now at the mercy of some turd... If you've gotta clear the house, let the dog lead... and i know we all have dogs in our house at night correct?? the best early warning device known to man... this is just my humble opinion... and i'm open to critical review.
  16. have the bushnell Trophy on mine.. weight and appearance of the ACOG on my duty rifle. not bad and holds zero very well. for the money and similar to the EOtech, go w/ the Bushnell Holosite... Same sight, just without the heavy duty hood and seals. great HWS for any gun. Alot of folks like the Vortex Strikefire, and the new SPARC looks promising.
  17. yep.... since you have a bolt gun, go w/ the AR. you will love it. Stay away from Century lowers, there are a few others that are junk... you can't beat this with a stick: $85.00! http://www.spikestactical.com/z/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=104 BCM is the Shiz for the money, Delton/DoubleStar/CMMG, all good lowers for the money. i've seen 100% complete lowers all over the place for $300ish... two in Chatt. for sale right now. one is RRA and the other is S&W. both great lowers. also, in middle TN is one of the largest upper distributors around, they sell a lot of Rock River for screaming good deals. Last i checked, they had these the Predator upper and Pursuit uppers for less then RRA had them. and these things rock. Rock River Arms: Varmint A4 Upper Half Call Wayne at 615-423-1856
  18. Bump how's the response so far?? looking forward to the AAR
  19. excellent. thank you.
  20. have several. they are tools. hold an edge, and indestructable. they can dig, stab, cut, saw (if it's the right one) and will not break. (i've tried to break em). they are worth every penny. get two while you are at it. one is for 'testing' one is for the GO bag.
  21. i'm confused by your statement (or question?), but maybe i'm just confused... At any rate, I think any shop that could open and just respect the customer base and open at least a short pistol range with a decent membership AND walk in plan (like Coal Creek) would do well! anybody can join CC or you can walk in and pay a small fee and shoot there... im not endorsing CC, i generally don't care for the way they treat customers, both observed and personal experience. but I do like that I can walk in and shoot there and don't have to just through a bunch of membership hoops... I think that someone should lease the now empty building next to Sportsmans Warehouse and open an indoor range and coordinate w/ Sportsmans (or not), offer many rental options (like CC) and offer classes, some targeted to women, taught by women, as well as memberships and walk-in options. I think they would do well once they get the word out... it would be the only range this side of town and very convenient to most (i''m hearing rumors about "depot"? don't know anything about it) Wish i had the $$$ and a few good partners, i'd make it happen...
  22. Notice it appears you are running the "lightning bolt" on your AK.... tell us what you think of it... considering it myself.
  23. i bet my life on pmags....
  24. Thanks Guys for the feedback...
