Well finally picked up the evo. Hoping to find a place I can rent silencers to try before I buy.

round two. warming up to the thought of reloading .223 for my AR (Saint), have spent hours on line, including you tube. seems like the re-size/trim after first shot is important. thinking about setting up a single stage press for re-size/decap. Really like carbide, but want to have the most control over re-sizing (thinking FL).
target: most accurate load @ 100yd or less.
would love to hear thoughts on the best die from a precision re-size standpoint.
thank you in advance,
My experience is that resizing dies are pretty close to the same. Your technique will have more of an effect on precision than the die itself (assuming the die is machined to spec). Carbide rifle sizing dies are very expensive and you still have to lube the cases, all mine are tool steel. For semi auto rifles FL dies are a must.
My 223 setup is:
1. Lee sizing die FL (also have small base of doing military brass)
2. Swage if needed
3. Trim with Giraud trimmer
4. Send through progressive for primer/powder/seating
You must at least check case length on bottleneck cases. I run mine through the trimmer after every firing to ensure that they are all to the same length.

It's a great can. Griffin makes good stuff. Pretty innovative. They have a 3-lug .22 suppressor. And a 5.56 can that fits a standard A2 birdcage.
Thanks. I actually have their Checkmate QD and have been very happy with it so far.

I personally don't like it for the fact it's completely sealed. That means no lead bullets, jacketed only. And it's too fat for a pistol. For a carbine only with jacketed bullets it's ok but I think even the TiRant being an old design is better at nearly everything.
not a bad suppressor though, if it fits your needs, go with it. I just feel it's more of a niche can than a general purpose pistol cal can.
What are your thoughts on the Griffin rev 9? It seems to be very similar to the octane just has the option to go with a K setup.

What do you guys think about the omega 9k
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Thanks guys for the suggestion. Those both seem to be top of the range in performance. I'm having a hard time paying as much for a 9mm suppressor as I did my 30cal. Have I set unrealistic expectations?

Bump...any help would be appreciated.

So I know all you guys could fit the ammo you have in your house in a sandwich bag....lol
So just curious how you would store your ammo if you had a decent amount. I am not real happy with my solution at the moment. I would like for it to be secure, but buying a safe just for ammo is probably not going to happen. Then there is protection from moisture. Not that I want to store it in an aquarium, but just to make sure my steel case does not rust. Also, having 25 ammo cans stacked up is not real handy if I need the bottom can. Plus space in my "armory" a.k.a. the garage is limited.
So what do you guys use?
Thanks in advance.
I do the ammo can thing, but like you I've found I always need what's at the bottom.

Hey guys,
Possibly picking up a 9mm carbine in the near future, what are your guys suggestions for a 9mm suppressor? I already have a 30 cal and 22, so it doesn't HAVE to be a multi use unit. Requirement order:
1. Hearing safe. Doesn't have to be Hollywood quiet but something in the 130db would be more than adequate.
2. Price. I already have a SBR 300blk that is scary quiet. Something
3. Size/weight/material
4. QD vs direct thread. I have used both and while a QD is nice to have, it is less important than the three above
The short term plan is that this will live exclusively on the carbine. Sometime in the future I may put it on on a 9mm pistol. I haven't fully decided if I want to invest in a barrel for my g19 yet.
Also, would it be better to go ahead and go with a 45cal silencer so I could run more than a .357 bullet through it?
Thanks,
Dallas

I just like to reduce the risk of things blowing up on me when I shoot. I *might* always intend to shoot subs - but then a supersonic round sneaks in there - or there's a mixup in a range bag - or whatever. As a rule, if I can remove the chances of operator error from having disastrous consequences - in any system in my life, I will.
I'm sure there are overbuilt cans that are over-bored and rated for anything you can fit through it. Like you said, a suppressor rated for 300 win mag is going to be awfully heavy hanging off the end of a pistol. It's also not going to be as quiet when it's bored for a 9mm round and you're running a smaller diameter .30 cal bullet through it.
YMMV.
Absolutely it's a good idea. I went through the same thing when I picked out one for my 300blk. I knew from the start that I would be shooting supersonic at times so decided to get one rated to do both.

I'd be wary of this. This may hold true in some cases - but accidentally run a super through it and you'll blow it up.
If he is only shooting subs why would he have supers? They do make 9mm suppressors that can handle 300 magnum pressures, it just adds weight and cost.

Subsonic
If you are only looking at sub then a 9mm suppressor will do the job. They are typically a little cheaper than a 30cal version.

I am just looking for the best bang for my buck. I have a single shot 300blk for now and not looking at other calibers. Any help is much appreciated.
Super or subsonic?

Knoxville is where I go.
I buy enough to make the trip.
For some reason he doesn't do Chattanooga gun shows.
Are they low enough to justify driving to Knoxville instead of cabelas or north ga reloading? I've been to the show in Cleveland a few times but it's pretty dang small.

Benton Shooters Supply typically has good stock but prices are high.
I only buy from them when I absolutely need it and I get as little as I can to get me by.
The best deals and great stock levels I got is from David at gunshows... Aka Magnum Materials.
I save my spare change and loose dollars and always end up spending over 300 dollars.
I need to get a couple cases of primers ...
David comes highly recommended from members of this forum for good reason.
In chattanooga, I hit sportsman warehouse, Cabelas ((best pricing and good selection)) and North Georgia Reloading.
Do you know what shows David goes to?

Sportsman's Warehouse has probably the largest selection of stuff in town and reasonably priced. North Georgia Reloaders is a good place for brass and a limited supply or powder and they are a Dillon Dealer but their stock on Dillon stuff sucks.
Bass Pro Shop, Cabella's, and Gander Mountain have some stuff with Cabella's having the most of those three. Frost Cuttlery has a sign out front saying they have reloading supplies. Don't waste your time back tracking from the Ooltewah exit. What little stuff they have is way way over priced.
Closer to you Benton's Shooter's supplies had a decent amount of reloading stuff the last time I was there a year or so ago. They were priced high then and probably high now but it might be worth the trip to investigate it.
There is a site reloadingunlimited.com. I've bought a lot from them at gun shows and they are in Calhoun so you may be able to arrange to pick items up from them locally and save on hazmat. I asked a guy working their booth once if you could do this but he wasn't sure because he was watching the the booth while the normal guy was away from the booth.
Thanks for the info. Calhoun and Benton aren't too far from me so I may swing by next weekend and see what they have.

Sportsman's warehouse on Lee highway in Chattanooga has a good selection. I haven't found any local casters
There are some here on the forum that sell brass from time to time.
I haven't had a chance to get to a show here to check out the local suppliers.
Thanks I'll check out sportsman's warehouse.

Check their gunshow schedule
Thanks I'll send them a message.

Thanks. A little far but I do have a buddy who works in that area.

Yea actually live in Cleveland but figured there was a larger selection in Chattanooga.

Hey guys,
Just wondering where are the best places to buy supplies in the Chattanooga area. Also, are there any local bullet casters?
Thanks,
Dallas

I ordered one of these a few months ago: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dillon-XL-650-SL900-Bearing-rotary-shell-plate-cam-follower-/322343414701
The guy sent me one, then I just got another one in the mail today. He said he didn't want it back. Anyone have a 650 and want it? first person to post here to lay claim gets it. PM me your shipping address.
I could use one actually. My original is getting pretty rough.
