  1. By all means report it.
  2. Have no issue with the lady keeping the gun handy (and already chambered), but chambering the round after the man walks through the door? From what I have read from the Old West days, when a hammer was brought back and clicked, it was considered the point of no return. I do make home visits and have a court order to back up why I am at the home. But I do have a professional relationship with the family and I shouldn't walk into a home and hear a gun being 'racked'. Have had the situation looking for a kid on probation, who lived in the sticks and knew the family were gun owners, he walked from the farm with a .22 rifle. He as on his own property, no rule of probation against gun possession and didn't point it at me.
  3. Good PR work!
  4. Just took up the sport of kayaking. Picked up a kayak at Gander Mtn. to go after geocaches. Took the craft out on Graham Lake, outside of Jackson, TN, found 4 caches there. May take it this summer on the Cumberland River in Nashville and go after several caches there.
  5. Thanks! Looked closer to the memo and was addressed for a certain company within an infantry regiment (about 120-200) soldiers. The memo does not address barracks soldiers, on-base housing soldiers, but "All soldiers". Why have the memo for on-base soldiers when current orders from the base commander asks the information? I may be way off base, IMHO, the lowly company commander is being used as a guinei pig to test the reaction and see if the NRA will get involved.
  6. I was in the US Navy (1986-1989) at Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico. Possessing guns on base was a no-no, they have to be secured at the base arsenal. What is the rule at Ft. Campbell? The memo for "Choppin Soldiers" , is that for all soldiers? Or just those on-base? What is "Choppin"? I assume an infantry regt? Can weapons be possessed in on-base housing at Ft. Campbell?
  7. No NRA alert for me either. Took a browse at the Brady Campaign site. Figured if this were huge news, they would be all over it. Beginning to wonder? My assumption is to not bring up a lot of firestorm about the issue and quietly ratify the treaty. Afterwards, at the beginning of enforcement, Senators will cry that they didn't know exactly what they were voting for (example Gulf of Tonkin Resolution), the Reps will say, it was not in our hands, don't blame us. Obama will just ignore the situation and find another tail to wag the dog to get attention elsewhere.
  8. I am going to chime in since I feel I have vast experience with GPS. I have been a geocacher since 2005 and have logged over 2,000 finds. Go to www.geocaching.com for information of the GPS game. I currently use a Garmin 60csx. I read one report the ACORN/Census worker when asked why he/she had a GPS in their hand was to verify the correct location, while outside the front door. That is a load of crap! GPS software such as Garmin will get someone to an address by simply typing in the address. I have learned to accept a distance error. Sometimes I have been able to autoroute to the driveway and sometimes, it's up to .5 mile off. I have learned to accept this and use other tools such as Google Streetview, aerial photos from mapquest and other sites. With my DCS job, I have to make home visits and use aerial photos to find the correct location. The handheld GPS is used to mark the location. When holding the GPS receiver, I hit mark and then average. I let if average for about 2 minutes to obtain the best coordinates. I do this when placing a geocache. As yet, no one has come to my door and previous census, I was mailed a packet that we filled out and returned. I do agree that questions like "What time I leave for work?" and other personal questions are not their business.
  9. Glad to read some good news.
  10. It is a National Guard unit.
  11. I was a member of the 438th Military Police Co. in Murray, KY for 3 and 1/2 years and worked the Derby two years and we were in uniform and carried a loaded 9mm handgun. However, when I was there, we wore Class B dress uniforms. Anyway, we were activated on orders from the Gov. of Kentucky and NOT the US Army. It would be illegal for the US Army to do that work.
  12. I have written to both Senators and made a mention of this on my facebook account.
  13. I have read that the census people with 'mark' the front door, with GPS. It will provide coordinates for the census. As for walking around the backyard, I am sure my demeaner will change and confrontation will become negative. What time I leave for work is not the business of the ACORN, I mean census people.
  14. I think it's a ploy and will attack from a different direction. Pay close attention about "straw buyers" and focus on dealers. If dealers are run out of business, then goes the guns. I don't trust Obama no further than I can throw him.
  15. $35 for a Class III. MP-5 was not the only full auto. I did notice a Sten. I will return to try out the Glocks. This summer, I might be on active duty and can double-dip for 3 pay periods and may invest in a Glock. $35 for Class III. Great Outdoors is located just off Highland Ave. (Hwy 45 business) just south of I-40.
  16. While in Jackson, TN today, I dropped by the Great Outdoors Store to check out the indoor shooting range. While browsing, I noticed they had full auto weapons for rent. With my military career, I have fired the: M-2, M-249, M-60 on full auto and fired the M-16 on burst. But have always wanted to try out a MP-5. I had a blast, very controllable weapon in the full auto mode.
  17. ditto
  18. You did the right thing. The girlie man got an education. Maybe he'll know next time....
  19. Last time I saw Geraldo on TV was during the invasion of Iraq in 2003. He was detailing how the expected attack by elements of the 101st Airborne was going to be done. I was watching this and thinking WTF is he doing. Soon afterwards he was canned as an embedded reported and sent to the house.
  20. I work in Juvenile Justice and I have heard juvenile judges tell young burgler offenders that they can be shot by homeowners. When I am conducting the intake, I also reinterate what the judge said or the judge didn't say, that a homeowner can shoot to kill. I explain it that the conversation with the police will be one-sided.
  21. I had a lengthy conversation with my immediate supervisor and told him the situation. He advised that after 4:30, I am off the clock, yet available. If called out from home, don't show up 'packing'. Off the clock, carry when and where I want to (legally). If I see a client and/or family (while 'packing'), don't initiate the contact, ie, if I see them across the parking lot, don't go out of my way to make contat. However, if the family approaches me and gains my attention, take care of the business. Document the f2f (face to face) that the meeting was "unplanned". I normally document the meeting beginning with "FSW (Family Service Worker) ran into _____ at Dollar General in Dresden while shopping and we discussed.....". That way I am covered and in the event the client or family voices a complaint that they saw the barrell or bulge from a handgun.
  22. I appreciate the feedback. At times, I have gone above and beyond: Finding a runaway in Pinson, knowing if the police get involved will make the matter worse. Ending up staying the night at a Memphis hospital with a female client whom was gang-raped. Put in bluntly, I go to work at 8 and don't know where I could be at 4:30. Issue brought up about having a few drinks. Hard to hide the alcohol on the breath. I will bring up the matter with my supervisor or next team meeting.
  23. I carry a 9mm Kel-Tec. Today, I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt, the bulge could have been noticed. As for the NRA attention. I feel the powers-to-be don't want us to be armed at anytime. And use the excuse 'no possession of a firearm on the job'. I'll dodge the 'on the job' part and not claim the interaction on my time sheet, but the face to face will be documented. Had the encounter needed more of my attention resulting of transporting the client and/or family member, I would: 1) Transport with the firearm and in the event of be discovered be fired. 2) Tell the family to wait so can take my gun home and return. 3) Tell the family, I don't have time for them, that could end up in a grievence against me. Since time was not an issue today, I would have taken my gun home and come back later. At some point, I should be off the clock.
  24. I work for DCS (yes that department that takes the kids). I work in the field of juvenile justice. For the past several months, the department has been working on an accreditation in which my region passed with a very high score. As for our personnel files, we had to sign a form stating that I would not be in possession of a firearm or alcohol while working or on the job. My normal work week is M-F 8 am to 4:30 pm. However, as a case manager I am 'available' even after normal working hours. I don't carry on the job and don't want to. I do transport clients and/or family members often and don't want to be a newspaper headline where a client found a case manager's handgun. Also the state run youth development centers (Somerville, Nashville, Pikeville and Dandridge), a vehicle can be search without suspician or probable cause. Now for the question. I work the county I live in, it's good and bad. The good, I run into clients/family members at the store and knock out a face to face contact. The bad, I run into clients/family members at the store. I have been carrying all weekend, been geocaching this weekend. Ran into a client and his mother in the store. They had a concern and it was resolved in about 1 minute of conversation. Thankfully, my gun was out in the truck, but if I had it one me (which I could since I have a permit) and the mother and/or client saw it, I could have had problems. Wondering if I should bring this to the NRA's attention?
  25. Obamamagic is not working with me.
