  1. Failure, in my opinion, would be if he did not achieve the goals he's set out to achieve. Personally speaking, I don't want him to achieve his goals of more restrictive gun laws, universal healthcare, or a more socialistic country. Therefore, you could safely say that I want him to fail. I don't want the country to fail, but if he succeeds in attaining his goals, I believe that's exactly what will happen.
  2. A friend of mine did an excellent job cutting foam for his gun case with an electric bread knife. You might try that.
  3. In my truck, I do all my own mechanical work. In my company provided service truck, I have to take it somewhere and have them do it. The company pays for it, though.
  4. Hey, did I hear my name back there? I wouldn't mind having y'all out to shoot, but I don't have much of a place, yet. I'm doing some fencing down in the pasture right now (well, before it go so wet. Had to stop until it dries up...) but once I get that done I'm going to lay out a proper range in the other half of the field. As is right now, I can get out to 150 yards or so. Once the fence is done, I'm planning to level out the other half and hopefully extend it on out to 500 yards or so. Once I get that done, we can talk about a 'North of 40' shoot. As for the Mosin, they aren't horrible. Not quite as easy to shoot as a .223 or 7.62x39, but I'd much rather shoot my M44 than my single shot, 3 pound 3.5" chamber 12 gauge.
  5. I can't claim to honestly be surprised by most any of this 'anti global warming' stuff anymore. I mean, they banned the light bulb in order to save us. Sure, there are other lighting options, etc...but just the fact that they banned the freaking light bulb makes it hard for me to be shocked at the extreme's the dirt people will go to now...
  6. http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/25/california-to-reduce-carbon-emissions-by-banning-black-cars/ I don't know what to say. I really don't. Just another reason my dark green, heat soaking, single digit gas mileage truck and I are staying out of Commiefornia.
  7. From what I understand about fully automatic weapons, you can't build one. Due to a ban in '86, there is now a fixed inventory of automatics that were registered at that time available for private ownership, hence the prices. It's a hike from where you are, but I'd really suggest to get in touch with Hero Gear. They're located in Winchester, TN, but they're great people to deal with. Considering what you're looking for isn't an every day occurrence in most gun shops, it's worth it to deal with guys that are very familiar with the process and all the ins and outs of it.
  8. Probably a better chance of finding nachos than ammunition...they're on to us.
  9. That's the thing with the internet. Some forums may feel like you're sitting around with some cold ones shooting the breeze with your buddies, but you don't realize all of you are sitting on a really well lit stage in front of a packed house. There are lots of folks (probably more than we think) that don't post, or haven't even registered, that read here, and other gun forums. Some are just curious gun owners, others are looking for anything they could possibly use to further their own agenda. While they may not be the majority, they are out there...definitely something to remember.
  10. I actually stopped by The Reloader's Bench yesterday afternoon, they didn't have the dies I was looking for in stock. I haven't gone on a call in your area in a while, but I can usually make it on my way home if I'm southeast of town.
  11. I appreciate all the information, y'all. RightWinger, I really appreciate the offer, but I can usually get by the Reloader's Bench, either on my lunch break or the way home. I'll be loading the plated bullets, because plain ole lead is supposed to be a bad idea with polygonal rifling. Aside from that, I'll have to purchase my brass. I don't shoot at a range, I've got enough space out here to go out behind my shop and shoot. As a result, my only range pick up brass is the stuff I just shot. I'm currently on the hunt for some carbide dies, haven't found any locally yet.
  12. Thanks y'all. Seems like a fine little gun, can't wait to shoot it. TDR, you're right about making a person spend money. I actually looked at this gun and passed on it, then by the time I walked around the store, picked up a hat, and talked to Joe a bit I found myself filling out a 4473. Oh well. My checkbook is just thankful I didn't bring home one of the .50s they have. Yet.
  13. Well, I got down to Hero Gear today. I was sent down to Winchester for work, and figured that I should drop by Hero Gear on my lunch break. "Maybe I'll get a hat", I said. Little did I know that somehow, some way I would walk out with this: That's an NRA version Smith and Wesson 642 PowerPort...and a hat. I've been looking for a 642 lately, and Joe set me up with this one. I haven't gotten to shoot it yet, maybe tomorrow. I'm happy though, and the trip to Hero Gear was a lot of fun. Thanks guys!
  14. I was unaware that they had a website. They have a store right off of I-40. Get off on exit 226 and go north on Mt. Juliet Rd. They're not very far down, on the right. They're in a white building that kind of looks like a house, with several other businesses. They have a sign up by the road.
  15. Ah, it seems the bullets were way out of line. Berrys has 1000 124 grain flat points for 71.97, just changing that dropped the cost to .13 cents a round, or $133.47 per 1000. Much better.
  16. I got my press set up today, and I'm almost ready to load up some 9mm. I don't have any dies or components yet, I'd planned on getting by The Reloaders Bench tomorrow to pick some up. But I was poking around online, and using some rough prices I got off Gunbroker and Midway, I came up with the following rough cost. Powder: 1lb at $35.00 Primers: 1000 at $30.00 Cases: 2500 at $115.00, divided by four, for $28.75 Bullet: 500 at $95.00 Do those prices sound about right? I divided the brass by four, assuming I can recover all of it and reuse it four times. That gives me a per round cost of .25 cents, or $251.50 for 1000 rounds. According to gun-deals.com, I can buy 9mm for anywhere from .17 cents a round to about .27 cents a round, on average. It looks like reloading doesn't really come out to any real cost savings, but you do get the benefit of having a load tailored to your gun. I was expecting to see a bigger cost difference, though. Did I get some numbers wrong, or is this fairly accurate?
  17. Just set up my 4 hole turret press today. Seems like you'll need the shell holders for the case trimmer. Also, when you mount the press, you may have clearance issues. If your bench top extends beyond the frame of the bench you should be okay, but if the top is flush with the frame you may have to either mount the press a little further out, or notch out a section for the linkage that pushes the ram to have room to move.
  18. My carry weapon is just like my seatbelt. Thankfully, I've never needed it, but I put it on every time I leave home, just because if I ever do need it, I want it to be there. Just my two cents, but in my experience talking with some friends who are in law enforcement and the military, those who have 'been there and done that' generally don't care to bring it up or relive moments that they thought they would die. I figure the same would apply to 'civilians' who carry handguns. Your mileage may vary.
  19. You're not kidding about the postal area. I'm just barely outside Gallatin, but they call it Bethpage. Not that I mind, though. I think I know where Mt Vernon is, I at least know where the CEMC building is. Once the weather warms up, and I have the time, I want to take the truck out and learn the immediate area better. For the turkeys, maybe. Back around the start of deer season I couldn't leave the house without seeing at least 20, now I don't think I've seen one in six weeks or so. Every once in a while I can hear the neighbors calling, though.
  20. I'll be honest, I'm not quite sure where Mt Vernon is. I've lived up here for going on three years now, but haven't had a lot of time to get out poking around. I'm right off Rock Bridge, not too far from the church. The van you saw wasn't me, but if you see an old green Ford flatbed running around our area, that sure is.
  21. The company I work for seems to be doing alright, though we're seeing the economic downturn firsthand. Thus far this year, we've had probably 15-20 customers go out of business, or consolidate multiple locations out of the area. Word is that just about all of our competitors have either laid people off or cut their hours, we appear to be holding steady and quite possibly gaining ground.
  22. Not to try to dissuade you at all, but there's already a 25 yard, indoor range in Gallatin. I'm not sure if they allow rifles, though. It's in the same building as a pawn shop, right next to the police station on South Water. You said your business would include a range, I take it that isn't the main focus? Perhaps a gun shop? I have to say, I'd love to have a good gun store in Gallatin. I like going to Guns & Leather, Goodlettsville Guns, etc, but it would be nice to have a gun store closer to home.
  23. I paid $75.00 at an indoor range in Gallatin. I believe it's called Complete Guns, or something similar. It shares a building with Asherbrenners Pawn.
  24. It's an external door on my shop. I hadn't thought about filling the space, but that's a good idea. I may still try to find a plate to go over the edge, but I'll fill it too. The external hinges are a liability, but I'm planning to tack weld the pins on the frame side of the hinge.
