  1. Really? I believe while in the Illinois Senate, President Obama voted for every gun control measure that came before him. Not too long ago, I believe Speaker Pelosi made a comment about not wanting to confiscate all guns, just register them. Not to mention both the President and Vice President have spoken out in support of a renewed AWB. Somehow, that doesn't seem like "getting the message". Yes, there may be bigger fish to fry for them this exact moment, but don't be fooled; guns may not be the biggest fish on the stringer, but it's still on there. I'd say the same thing about CNN, MSNBC, The Tennessean, etc... I guess the fact that Saddam had violated 18 UN security council resolutions, refused to let weapons inspectors in, etc made it an unecessary war, didn't it? Yes, a lot of fine, brave young (and not so young) men and women have given their lives in Iraq. But if you'll look at the numbers, you'll find that casualties were actually down from years prior in 'peacetime', due, among other variables, to fewer training accidents. As for the profits for Halliburton, would you go into a hostile, violent country to do their job for free? Yeah, they made money. But how many companies can do what they do, on the scale they do it? If you're so sure they were the wrong choice, what company would you have recommended with comparable capabilities. Thought one on trashing our global reputation is, well...who cares? The world isn't a popularity contest. Just what have we done that made us so unpopular, anyway? Taking out a dictator that gassed his own people? Going after the terrorists that killed our own people? If that's unpopular, well...that's too bad. I can almost agree with you on the Patriot Act, it does indeed give the Federal Government far too much power, and I'd just as soon they did away with it. But I don't see the issue with torture. Yeah, I said it. If you have a known terrorist that you've confirmed has information about an imminent attack on America, I would say do whatever you have to do to extract that information. If waterboarding doesn't work, remove some fingers, find new uses for a cattle prod, whatever. Do whatever it takes to get the information you need to save American lives. What'll happen? France will wag their finger at us? The UN will say "That's not very nice." Big whoop. I don't know how to break this to you, but those evil 'trickle down' economics work. The owner of the company I work for makes a lot of money. As a result, he uses some of that money to employ my coworkers and I, so that he makes more money. No, we don't make as much as he does, but we also haven't worked as hard, taken the same risks, etc. As for the economic troubles being caused by too little oversight, tell me just what, aside from the military, the government does well. The VA hospitals? Medicare/ Medicaid? Social Security? Government housing projects? More government oversight is not the answer. Letting the free market work is the answer. People that couldn't afford to buy houses bought houses. They couldn't pay for their houses. They lost them. Housing prices go down. People hurt. People learn a lesson. Due to lower house prices, new buyers that are financially stable have a great opportunity to buy houses. Did you know that right now, due to availability, prices, and mortgage interest rates, that this is probably the best time in 30 years to buy a house? Yes, because our current President has done so much about both. He proposed that he'd speak to Iranian leaders without preconditions, and now they want him to meet their conditions before they'll come to the table. Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't North Korea increased their nuclear testing and other activity lately, as well? Something like six lest launches last week? The Bush administration, with the Democratic congress toward the end, did spend a lot to keep us safe. But they didn't proverbially go over to the Chinese leaders with a beggars cup. They sold Treasury Bills, etc, and China, of their own free will, bought them. Why? Because at the time, the US Economy was a good place to put money. I'd love for you to explain to me how that forced the Obama administration to spend money. Heck, I'd like you to explain how the government spending us into oblivion will avoid another depression. It takes money out of the private sector of the economy, which over the long run will hurt us. Yeah, Bill Clinton did a great job at that too, except for that one day in 1993 when the World Trade Center was bombed, or that bomb that was set off in Oklahoma City that one time in 1995, or the bomb that went off at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. Even if they are at the bottom of his list (and that's debatable), they're on the list. Do you wait for the tornado to rip the roof off of your house before you seek shelter, or do you go find a safe place when the Tornado warning sounds? I don't know about anyone else, but I don't personally hate President Obama. I'm sure on a personal level, he's probably an alright guy to have a beer with. My problem is with his policies. Be they due to his inexperience, or just being misguided, they're a problem. A big problem. Has he really? Did you know that the proposed cap and trade energy/ emissions bill currently working it's way through Congress (that the President supports, by the way) will increase the average American's yearly energy bill anywhere from 1200 to 3000 dollars? Yeah, that 8 bucks a week will sure help there. By the way, where's that money coming from. Oh, that's right. He raised taxes on the evil, bad rich people like my boss. Gues that explains why we won't be getting raises this year. Thanks, Mr. President! I have. Around the time I was in my late teens, I thought I was a Democrat. Then I actually looked at the facts, and evaluated my beliefs, and figured out where I really needed to be. I think people that believe America needs to stand strong are far better for our country than people that think we, the envy of the world, need to change and be more like the rest of the world. Yes, dissent is an important freedom in America. So why does everyone start with the wailing and cries of racism when people question what President Obama is doing?
  2. Beretta Model 92/96D Same specifications as the standard Model 92 and Model 96 except that this variation has no visible hammer and is double action only. This model has no manual safety. Pistol weighs 33.8 oz. NIB: 425.00 Exc: 375.00 V.G.: 325.00 Good: 275.00 Fair: 200.00 Poor: 150.00
  3. Are there corporations that actually bar management from asking unruly patrons to leave? I don't mean to be patronizing by asking that, I've just honestly never heard of such a thing. One would think if the corporate office was that involved in the day to day operations of their establishment, they'd be involved enough to realize that they needed to post proper signage if they wished to ban firearms from their facility.
  4. Balls of steel, head full of rocks...sometimes, it's hard to tell the difference.
  5. I would. Just like we love to hear about good service (Hero Gear, Guns N Leather, etc...) we need to know about the less than stellar service, too.
  6. I don't quite understand why the guy wasn't arrested. He admitted to driving at least 20 MPH over the speed limit (assuming it was a 70 MPH zone, probably wasn't), admitted to filming the incident, which means he had to have at least one hand on the camera, etc...blocked in a police cruiser, then looks like he stood in front of the deputy's car to keep him from leaving, etc...at the very least I'd think he would have been tagged for reckless driving, if not also interfering with police work (don't recall right off hand what the correct term for that is).
  7. I believe, by the letter of the law, you are supposed to be able to provide your permit to an officer at any time you have your firearm, aka you have to have it on your person.
  8. Wow. That was...something. Did anyone else notice, when this genius was filming his dashboard, it looked like the "Please fasten your seatbelt, doofus" light was on?
  9. Ah, gotcha. I gave up on 'good' parking spots, I've always driven long bed extended cab pickup trucks or larger, and you're not usually going to get one of those into or out of a space without a second open space next to it. I started parking at the far end of the lot as soon as I began driving, still have to. Seem to avoid most of the shopping carts that way, though.
  10. I'll give you they over complicate some things, but parking? I don't get it.
  11. Aye, I think I saw the grenade launchers on a couple.
  12. I'm going back and forth between MythBusters and the NHL Playoffs. Go Blackhawks, I guess...at least you're not Detroit!
  13. I see someone wearing a flame retardant suit trying to blow up ice blocks...
  14. Which way are they varying? Is the pipe rotating, or moving side to side? Honestly, aside from clamping it solidly and drawing a good straight line where you want the row of holes, not sure what else might affect it.
  15. Joe, what's special about the Surefire? It looks like an E20 with an LED head, but what's the gold ring around it?
  16. Rightwinger is the man, and that's all there is to it.

    Zombie Crisis

There's someone running around Hendersonville in a Jeep Cherokee that's been painted some form of desert tan, and has "Zombie Response Vehicle" or something like that stenciled on it, along with a star and insignia similar to military trucks. I'll try to get a picture if I see it again.
  18. I'm not an expert on Ruger revolvers, so I may not be looking at the same exact model you're looking for. However, I broke out the Blue Book and found the following. The BlackHawk Convertible is the same as the Blackhawk, with an extra cylinder to change or convert calibers. The .357/ 9mm list at roughly 550 for NIB, 450 for Excellent condition, 400 for Very Good, 300 for Good, 200 for Fair, and it doesn not list a price for Poor condition. *Edit* Those prices are listed for the old model. The new model lists a little differently. It's 450 for NIB, 350 for Excellent, 250 for Very Good, 175 for Good, 150 for Fair, and 125 for Poor. The Stainless .357/ 9mm is significantly more, as the book says only 300 were built.
  19. I agree, while the OP makes some good points, it isn't exactly new information for a lot of us. Most people who carry don't have a need to discuss it with everyone, or swagger about like John Wayne. Chances are really very good that you've already served several people who were carrying firearms, and never knew it.
  20. Drift away! Kind of fun to see this thing add a page while I was writing my last reply.
  21. Rightwinger, no need to warn the neighbors. The way sound bounces off these hills, I'd have to alert everyone in 5 miles, and that's probably a bunch of people. Thus far, my practice has been to shoot what I wanted, when I wanted. If they're curious enough, they'll come up and ask. Heck, somebody was shooting something fairly loud about 30 minutes ago. I might be interested in seeing how .223 is done, I'll be trying to help my buddy load it for his AR before too long. It depends on how much of the field I get bush hogged tomorrow. Give me a call when y'all decide on a time. Uker, I didn't realize how great it felt to roll your own ammo. I already enjoy loading as much as I did shooting it. Just need a steady supply of components to make it happen.
  22. Yep, had my press set up for a couple of months now, finally got to load my first rounds today. A BIG thanks to RightWinger, for not only helping me out with some components, but also for walking me through a few issues I had once I started loading. Long story short, loaded some 158 grain .38 Specials with 4.0 grains of Unique. Went out back behind the shop and shot them, all four went 'bang' correctly. I can't say much for the accuracy, I'm positive the lack of it was due to me. I plan to load up a few more tomorrow evening and see if I can't get a bit more accurate. I learned a few things. The scale that comes in the Lee starter kit will work, but after using it and seeing the digital Dillon that Rightwinger has, a new scale is high on the list of things to buy. I also need a powder trickler. I was using the little Lee scoops, trying to pick up two or three flakes of powder to get the weight finalized. It was doable, but a pain. Finally, dies in a couple more calibers and more components, then I'll be set. Just for good measure, a picture of the four rounds I loaded tonight. I know, four ain't that many, but I had some trouble getting the dies set properly, but Rightwinger helped me get everything figured out over the phone. Double checked all my weights, lengths, etc, and shot them tonight as dusk was settling. Got a good flash from each one. Shooting them through a S&W 642, anyone got a favorite load for a 158 grain cast round nose and Unique?
  23. $15.00 a box? Wow. I bought 9mm at Dicks, seems like just a month or so ago for 11 something a box, plus tax.
  24. I used to go to Starbucks a lot years ago when I lived outside Jackson. I moved up to Nashville, didn't have my buddies to hang out with, and just gave up the $5.00 coffee. But you want to get the little hippie freak-niks staring at you? I did it well, once. I went down to REI in Brentwood, and parked in the Starbucks lot, since they're in the REI parking lot. At the time, I was driving a '94 F-250 diesel. I came out of REI, hopped in the truck, and the ignition switch decided to die. Ever have to hotwire a big, dirty diesel truck with exhaust stacks sticking through the bed in a Starbucks parking lot? I think the only reason nobody called the cops on me was because I was parked beside a Lexus. If you're gonna steal a car, why go for the old pickup when there's a brand new Lexus? The guy must own it. I go by every now and then, it's always fun to roll up in the drive through in a service truck.
  25. Irish, good to see you today. No need to apologize for anything, family comes first. I got pretty tied up yesterday evening myself, didn't make it in the house until almost 8:00.
