  1. I know a person who had a similar experience with a MagLite. Only difference was, the MagLite didn't get recovered. That Port-A-John glowed for a few hours until the flashlight batteries died.
  2. Welcome, and thanks for your service.
  3. What type of accessories are you looking for? Holsters, lights, lasers? Lots of options out there.
  4. You want some Boddingtons? The local Kroger carries it, along with the Publix. Send me a PM, I'd be glad to ship you a pack or two.
  5. Senator Diane Black and Rep Mike McDonald both got yet another email from me regarding this issue.
  6. Are we talking lunch or supper in the mid state? I'd be in for supper, but might not be in the area for lunch.
  7. I drank a Bud Light last night for the first time in two years, and promptly remembered why it's been two years since I touched one. On the other hand, I've got some Boddington's in the fridge that I doubt will last the night.
  8. I woke up alive, went to work, came home and did some work around my property, and I've got good beer again. Not to mention the restaurant carry veto was overturned (screw you, you bunker digging jerk), and my chainsaw started without me having to work on it.
  9. Just my opinion, if that's the worst of the finish damage, I probably wouldn't do anything to it. It got the wear honest, it's just part of the character. Keep it clean, wipe it down with a good rust preventative oil, I can't see why it wouldn't last a couple of lifetimes.
  10. There is a nice meat and three in Lebanon, TN called Sunset, or The Sunset, something like that. I really do hope it's not Mr. Rayburn's establishment, as they've got a great lunch menu. I'll have to check into that. *EDIT* Found Mr. Rayburn's Sunset Grill! It's not in Lebanon, but in Hillsboro Village in Nashville. http://www.sunsetgrill.com/aboutus
  11. Well, I guess that explains the case of 'el strickj'...
  12. You know, I used to invite folks like that to go jump in the creek, but I had to give it up. If half the folks I told that to actually went and did it, I'd run out of creek in a hurry.
  13. A friend of mine went to MTSU, originally planning to be a pilot. He changed course and is an air traffic controller now. Good luck!
  14. Av88tor, I take it from your posts that you work with safes on a regular basis. What do you recommend for a good, basic safe? My issue with most of the 'gun safes' I've seen is the construction material. It seems like almost all of them are made of 10 gauge sheet metal. Has anyone ever really looked at a piece of 10 gauge? It's not all that thick. I've actually toyed with the idea of buying a cheap gun locker and welding some serious (1/4", 5/16") steel to the insides myself. While that's probably overkill, I'd like to see something stouter than sheet metal.
  15. That, I can't answer. I've had the light on the gun for almost five years. I don't remember noticing a big difference when I did put it on, but I could have just forgotten. It doesn't seem overly heavy in it's current configuration, if that helps. Heck, I may even go weigh it later, just to see.
  16. Alright, snapped some photos. Notice that the toggle switch is on the left hand side of the forearm. I believe it was designed for a right handed person, as when held on the right side, your left thumb lines up on the toggle switch, and your middle finger lays on the tape switch. It takes some adapting to get used to operating it left handed, and you need to have large hands to comfortably be able to flip the toggle switch with your fingers. In the last picture, you can see the bulb assembly has a spring and plastic washer/ cone on the bottom of it. That's part of the shock isolation. You can also see that the battery pack does not have a protruding post on either end. The battery pack is functionally two 123A batteries put together, but you wouldn't want to use two loose batteries in the light. They will fit and work, but the recoil is very hard on them. I tried them once, just because I wanted to see for myself if the packs were really necessary. After about 400 rounds, the two batteries were beginning to dent in slightly where they touched each other. Anyway, great product. However, I'd say it's probably overkill for what most folks actually need.
  17. I'll have to get the pictures later, but the method you use depends on what you want to do with it. Yes, the SureFire fore end is expensive, compared to a $15.00 clamp. But, it does a lot more. One of the largest issues with shotgun mounted lights is recoil. It's like dropping a flashlight on the ground (though not from too far up) every time you shoot it. That's very, very hard on an incandescent bulb. The bulb assembly in the SureFire version is isolated, for lack of a better term. Likewise with the batteries. Over entended use, the recoil of the weapon can cause two batteries in the tube to move around, to the point that they actually slam into one another, causing a dent in one, if not both batteries, that can prevent the light from working. I'm not sure how the newest versions of the light are designed, but mine has a sealed battery pack with a fier spacer between the batteries. There's also the switch mechanism. One one side of the forearm you have a momentary on pressure switch, and the other side has a continuous on toggle switch. No messing with turning heads to make the light stay on, running a tape switch wire to somewhere else on the gun, etc... I'm not saying the SureFire unit is the only way to go, or even the best way to go for most people. I just wanted to touch on a few of the reasons, aside from SureFire's usual high quality, that it does cost as much as it does. If you were going into combat, busting into houses with the SWAT Team, etc, SureFire would, in my opinion, be the only way to go. Most of us, though, aren't doing that. We're putting a light on a shotgun, leaning it up beside the bed, and might take it to the range once a year. In that case, the clamp isn't a bad option. I think one of the simplest ways to get the job done would be an LED Mini MagLite, with a replacement tail cap that had a pressure switch on a cord. Clamp the light to the barrel/ magazine tube, run the switch where you want it, and call it good. Maybe use some blue LocTite on the clamp to keep it tight. One thing to note if you have a sling on the shotgun, is that you may have to relocate the front mount to the side of the magazine tube instead of the bottom.
  18. If you've not been to a Preds/ Detroit game in Nashville, my Chelios comment might not make since. There's a chant that goes "Chelios is a sis-sy" whenever he takes the ice. That's all. As for how many Cups has Nashville brought home...well...how many times have the Predators made it out of the first round of the playoffs? I love my Preds, but they're not Cup material just yet. Lots of promise on the horizon, though. Couple more players like Joel Ward, and Detroit may have a problem on their hands.
  19. I'm not a Detroit guy, and I like to give 'em grief whenever the opportunity presents itself. But I've got to admit, they're a great team. They have a reputation for a reason. Likewise, with Chris Chelios. Chelios is a sissy. But with that said, he's a class act sissy. Last season, I believe, I was at a Detroit/ Nashville home game. A young girl (she looked about 6 or so, but I was on the opposite side of the arena) got hit in the face with a puck, just to the side of the Detroit bench. As the ushers/ first aid folks were calming her down, ensuring everyone was okay, etc, Chelios leaned over the glass on the end of the bench and gave her his stick. Not a huge deal, but I was still very impressed by the gesture.
  20. Rightwinger, you didn't miss much. Detroit won, 3-1. And they still suck! Preds season ticket holder, going on two years here. M&PC9, the NHL is a group of athletes that can play for more than 30 seconds at a time without having to stop and figure out what play to run next. Ftncityfatboy, not a Pens fan by choice, but I just can't stand the Wings. I guess the Penguins are preferable to a Canadian team...I guess.
  21. Generally don't listen to Bob and Tom, but that was funny right there.
  22. As I sit here watching Detroit beat on Pittsburgh in Game One of the final series, I got to wondering who else is watching? I'm no Penguins fan, but I really, really don't like the Red Wings. I guess I have to somewhat prefer Pittsburgh by default, then.
  23. I'm not sure what all is entailed in the surgery you have to have, or the recovery, but you may want to note that you can shoot the test with whatever caliber handgun you'd want. While it shouldn't be a problem to pass it with your weak side hand, if you were concerned about it you might see if you could handle a .22 rimfire handgun on your strong side, or even on your weak side to help reduce the recoil.
