Stupid question, how can you tell what version it is? Not the trigger, but the gun?

Looks great! I love my P30. Have you played with the grip panel/ backstrap combination yet? Does it have the LEM trigger? Is the slide release lever on the right side tight, or does it wiggle a little? Great gun, we'll need a range report.

I measured a handful of the bullets, they all measure .358 or .359. Okey, I'd love to try some different bullets. Not sure when I'll be out your way, though. I'll PM you.

I'm not as well versed on the letter of the law as some here, but it would seem to me that the threat of anything being inserted into the body would constitute serious bodily harm, be it a knife, a pencil, or parts of someone else's body.

I would think the answer would be a definite yes.

I'm carrying Hornady Critical Defense, 110 grain +P. Accurate out of my 642, no major muzzle flash. Have also shot Speer Gold Dots, they performed really well also.

Alright, I'm out of ideas. I've been loading for my S&W 642, and I'm continually having the same problem. The bullets are tumbling, the groups are huge, and nothing I do seems to change it. I'm loading 158 grain cast round nose bullets. I did not cast them myself. I've loaded them with anywhere from 3.3 grains (minimum in my Hornady book) to 4.0 grains of Unique. I did intentionally vary the load, i.e. 10 of 3.3 grain, 10 of 3.5 grain, etc...I have also varied the OAL from 1.45 (again, maximum in my Hornady book) down to 1.30. I've been individually measuring each and every case, I don't recall the exact measurement right now but I do insure that all the cases in each 10 round batch are exactly the same. I am measuring each and every finished round, and weighing each and every charge. Nothing seems to change the accuracy and tumbling. Naturally, the lower powder charges have less recoil, but otherwise it's all the same. From about 7 yards, out of 10 rounds, I might get 6 on an 8x11 sheet of paper, and the ones that hit appear to be hitting sideways. I thought it was just me. Maybe I really can't see squat, and I really can't shoot. So I shot through a box of MagTech CowBoy loads. They're 158 grain flat nosed bullets, and I could put 5 into a sub 2" group. So it isn't just me. I'm almost out of ideas. The only things I can still think of is to change powder, or change bullets. Before I do that, I wanted to ask here. I know I'm not the only person loading for a J frame, so what are the rest of y'all loading? Powder, bullets, OAL? I can't imagine that Unique just won't work well with 158 grain cast round nose bullets, but I'm almost to the point that I think it's the only option left. Any opinions would be appreciated.

Alright, we have an update! I emailed Lee on Monday evening, and had not received a response. I called them today. I spoke with one of their techs, and he explained what to do in an attempt to repair the press. Remove the turret. Loosen the three bolts that hold the top ring down. Take a solid hardwood rod, and run it down through the turret ring, and hook it on the ram. Use it like a prybar to pull the ring in the direction it needs to go. While holding pressure on the rod, tighten the three bolts. According the the tech that I spoke with, the holes in the turret ring are not perfectly circular. They're intentionally elongated just a tiny bit. While they set the ring at the factory, they can be knocked out of position. I did this tonight, and it worked. It's not perfect, but it is much, much better. I don't have to push the brass over to get it into the die. I can actually operate the press one handed now. Unfortunately, this has not made a difference with my tumbling issue, but I'll be posting a thread on that shortly.

I've seen a couple of those Smart cars running around. I can't quite figure out just how exactly I can haul a 12,000 pound tractor with one. Ah well. My truck's been working for 53 years, I reckon I can get another 53 out of it.

A hawk flew into my chicken coop today. Not into it like inside, but I guess it didn't see the chicken wire containing my birds. It slammed into the fence at full tilt, about a foot off the ground. It fell onto it's back, wings outstretched, then got up and flew off.

To the best of my knowledge, the state has never required any paperwork be kept, or even filled out for the private sale of a firearm.

I'm not sure what you're calling a square ratchet piece, do you mean the black plastic thing on the ram? It seems like it will wear out fairly quickly. I've only loaded about 100 rounds though, so thus far I'm still using all the original components.

Nothing wrong with a .38 Special, lots of folks carry them every day. The Reloader's Bench is a pretty nice place, while you're in Nashville you may also want to check out Guns For America. They're off of Powell Avenue, near the 100 Oaks Mall. Small place, but really nice people.

+1 Several guys I know have used a sealant on old truck gas tanks, they said it works great. I think it's called Red something, they found it at Oreilly's. I'll ask for sure tomorrow.

I'd go digital. I used Rightwinger's Dillon scale one night, I could measure a charge in less than half the time it takes me to measure one on my Lee beam scale. I was very impressed with the Dillon scale.

Welcome to TGO! As for finding ammo, there's a place just down the road from you that usually has .38 Special. Take I-40 to exit 226, and go north, away from the Providence area. Just past the gas station (a BP, I think) on the right is a white building that kind of looks like a house. There's a gun store there called The Reloader's Bench. They usually have about any kind of ammunition you may need.

I could really derail this thread on that one, but I won't. I'm just glad Mr Gordon thinks I am too stupid to realize that broadband internet might not be available if I move to a part of the state with more farm equipment on the road than cars.

I was disappointed that his daily poll, "What are you most concerned about today," did not have an option for "scared of what you'll try to pass next." By the way, what's the deal with that rural broadband internet bill that was listed on the front page of his site? Nice to see another unnecessary cost passed on to us.
