  1. I consider that saving, personally.
  2. I haven't recently priced new 870s, and didn't realize that they were as inexpensive as they are. As for the Maverick, the price I listed was what I thought I saw in a WalMart up in Kentucky a few weeks ago. It's nice to know that they're not as expensive as I thought.
  3. I need to fix something else for supper.
  4. I've never been able to tell much of a difference, especially with the 20 being worse. However, I have a couple of female friends that swear that the 20 gauge is worse than the 12.
  5. I won't derail your thread by talking about my old truck. I'd never get back on track. I've found used 870s anywhere from 200 to 400 on average, depending on how tacti-fied it is and how beat up it is. The last time I was in a WalMart that sold guns, I think the Mossberg Mavericks were about 270 or 280 or so new. I like 00 buck for a HD load.
  6. I've shipped ammunition via UPS before. All they require is that the package have ORMD on it in some form. I've always just written it on the package with a marker, haven't had any issues or had HazMat mentioned.
  7. Hard to beat a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500/ 590. I hear the Mossberg Maverick line is essentially the same as the 500 series, might be worth looking into. Something to keep in mine on the gauge issue; a lot of the 20 gauge shotguns I've handled are noticeably lighter than their 12 gauge equivalent. Some folks say the 20 gauge actually has more felt recoil than a 12.
  8. Real men only carry .45s, have 5 spare mags on their body at all times, and they have .308 rifles in their surplus M1 Abrams tanks that they drive to work. They wear level III body armor at all times and to tactical rolls into their cubicles, to keep their skills up in case their office is ever invaded. I, on the other hand, carry either a 9mm or a .38. My personal belief is that with most modern day defense ammo, a lot of caliber debates have been neutralized, or the gap between calibers closed to a negligible size.
  9. If you try to find a lab to test it, I imagine it will be very expensive. If you must know, do this. Get a torch; propane, Mapp gas, oxy/ acetylene, just something hot. Try to burn the lump. See if it smells/ acts like burning sugar. Or, alternatively, try to burn a bunch of sugar and see what it comes out like. In my opinion, I think you should take the free box of cereal they offered you and let it go.
  10. The HK P30 is the most comfortable handgun I've ever held. Right behind it would probably be the P99, though it's a bit small for me.
  11. I agree with a lot of that, my only differences are #8 and #10. I don't have a credit card anymore, and don't see a need. A debit card will do everything a credit card will do, except get you into debt. On #10, I agree to a point. While you don't 'need' a lot of luxury items, I think they are okay to buy so long as you keep it in check. When you're financially secure and doing well, it's okay to buy a 'luxury' item once in a while. Luxury items can be different things to different people, too. When I was broke and getting out of debt, I kept a really tight budget. Really tight. My 'luxury' item was whatever I wanted it to be, so long as it only cost me $2.50 a week. I usually took got a burger or a milkshake every other week. Now that I'm out of debt and doing a bit better, I'm going to buy a .22 pistol in the next few days. I guess it's a luxury item because I don't really need it, but I want it and have the cash to pay for it. As Dave Ramsey says, there are only three things you can do with money. Save it, spend it, and give it away. I believe people need to be doing a little bit of all three all the time. Good post, man.
  12. MASH? The old TV show about a hospital unit in the Korean War?
  13. 14. Hoorah! Physically destroying the card is pretty fun, too. Mine got blown apart by a 12 gauge.
  15. So would someone slowly disassembling the car in your driveway. Or mailing you a Jeep. Both would be big news.
  16. It's a message from your subconcious. Someone that you know is trying to mail a Jeep home one piece at a time.
  17. Yes! You nailed it! I'm going to have to break out my DVD set and find out what episode it was.
  18. You've got a great rifle there, and the family history makes it absolutely incredible. I can't tell you much about it, but the sling might not be a belt. It was hard to tell from the photos, but I've seen some older rifles that had slings that look very similar to what you have. With a proper cleaning, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to shoot it, assuming you don't find any damaged parts, and do find some ammo. Do a search on YouTube, there are a few good videos that cover disassembling and reassembling the M1 Carbine. If you do clean it and decide to shoot it, give me a shout if you can't get any ammo. I've got some I could send your way.
  19. You're kidding, right? Lots of folks carry Glocks every day, and this is the first time I've ever even heard of that method. Most people just use a holster.
  20. I'll be watching this thread. I homebrew beer, but I want to try some wine. The kit I bought came with the stuff to do both, I just haven't tried the wine yet due to the amount of time involved.
  21. They are round, I checked that also. First off, no need to call me 'sir'. That's all...formal, and the like. I appreciate all the questions and suggestions that y'all have offered, because I'm still very new to reloading. I've only been loading for a month or two now, still have a lot to learn. It's all good, man. I'm learning a lot from y'all, feel free to keep it up.
  22. Me too! That's why I quit dealing with them. I know that line, I just can't place it.
  23. Yep, what he said. Don't be surprised if you find yourself enjoying loading the ammunition just as much fun as shooting it.
  24. You know, that did occur to me. As of yet I've not shot anything more substantial. However, I am having a significant issue with the size of the group, regardless of the charge size. I did get the bullets from Okey today, but didn't get any loaded yet. I might be able to load a few tomorrow.
