  1. First, welcome to TGO! For your permit class, there are several vendors here on TGO that offer them. Guns & Leather is in Greenbriar, and have a very nice range. Goodlettsville Gun shop is in Goodlettsville, I've heard good things about them. CIS is in Smyrna, and they're highly recommended also. I'd recommend that you do a search here on Buford Tune, Uselton, and On Target before dealing with them. I've not had personal experience with any of them, aside from meeting Buford once at a gun show. Do a search, there are a lot of opinions on them here. A good carry weapon is the one you can conceal and shoot the best. The G21 may work for you with a good holster, but a snubnose .38 in a pocket holster is very easy to carry. Try a few different options out before you decide.
  2. I'm up to give it a shot! They're bound to be more accurate than some of my .38 reloads. I think I've got it figured out now, but that's a story in itself.
  3. Nashville isn't known for great driving. I'm used to having to avoid idiots. But I can say I've never had to use an air horn in addition to a turn signal to indicate that "YOU NEED TO MOVE NOW, BECAUSE I CAN'T!" in Nashville. It's not that I don't want to, but 50,000 pounds just can't get up and go! As for driving up north, I've tried it. Not really excited about ever doing it again.
  4. What are you doing with a cow in your house? Or...never mind, we might not want to know.
  5. I thought the Norincos were commercially made, then imported from China?
  6. Then why don't all of you intellectually superior folks over there understand what turn signals mean? Or signs that say "Lane ending, merge now". I could go on, but I think you get my point. Let me guess, y'all communicate telepathically about what you're about to do?
  7. While the metric system has it's merits, it never really caught on for most of America, so I thought it was odd to see a street sign marked with it. The sign didn't look too old, but I wasn't paying much attention either. Seems like Knoxville has a lot of people that don't know how to drive. I was more interested in watching out for them. I've seen a lot of Recovery.gov signs lately, too! Oh, and "You are now entering the so-and-so watershed".
  8. I was over in the Knoxville area today, and got up to Clinton. When I got back on 75 South back into Knoxville, I saw a sign that said "Knoxville 11 miles or 18 kms" That's the first interstate sign I've seen that listed kilometers. Are they common over in that area? Anyone know why they listed kilometers? I just thought it was kind of unusual.
  9. I believe that they sold Toots, and it is now owned by someone else.
  10. Thus far, my favorite loads for my 642 are the MagTech 158 grain cowboy loads. Standing at about 10 yards, I can put 5 of them into a 2" or so group. Haven't tried any other commercial cowboy loads though.
  11. That's what I would do for the first week or two. I agree with the others, life is too short to spend a bunch of time mad or upset or all bent out of shape. Besides, I'm not sure you have many legal options, aside from calling the police. No. I'd ask my boss if I could start and end my shift 10 or 15 minutes early, or late. Or find another way to alter my schedule a bit. If that absolutely could not be done, then yeah. Every night, I'd slow down and get over when he got behind me. It takes what, 45 seconds or a whole minute to pull over, let him pass, then get back on the road? In the grand scheme of things, it really isn't a big deal.
  12. The mass media is generally pretty biased toward the left, really.
  13. And only minutes from Guns For America. I'll try to stop by there next time I get out that way.
  14. Considering that you could probably sell the SKS for 250-300 bucks by itself, I'd say you did pretty well.
  15. Good job Rick. It's too bad more people don't take the time to actually do things like this.
  16. Agreed. Some things are worth seeing more than once, and this is definitely one of them. Thanks for bringing it to the forefront. It's disappointing that all our heroes don't receive such a welcome home.
  17. While McDonalds has improved, I still can't stand their coffee. It always seems to taste burnt. Can you recommend some locally owned coffee places around Nashville? I haven't been to a coffee shop for a while, and almost stopped in a Starbucks today. I know where Bongo Java and Fido (I think it's Fido, it's been a few years) are, but are there any others?
  18. If you like unusual cars, or antique foreign cars, check out the Lane Motor Museum on Murfreesboro Rd. I haven't been in there in a couple of years, but they had lots of classic European cars, lots of motorcycles, and a few European military vehicles. They also had either a US DUKW or Larc (don't recall which one) parked out back, complete with a photo album of them driving this small ship through Nashville. Pretty cool.
  19. I picked up some 333 round packs of Winchester .22 at WalMart not too long ago. Good stuff.
  20. I've been wondering this myself. I've been using the same media for several months, and it has turned a shade of light gray. It's still cleaning well, so I'm inclined to leave it alone until it becomes less effective.
  21. Ah, when you said investing I was thinking stock market type stuff, mutual funds, etc. Buying tools/ stuff for a business would be spending, but not frivolous spending. I can't say much about buying single stocks, as I don't own any. I do have some mutual funds, though. I consider that saving, because the odds of the value increasing over the long term are better than the odds of them decreasing. While it isn't the strategy for everyone, it works well enough for me.
  22. Alright, updating. I loaded up 10 rounds tonight with some of the bullets I got from Okey. They're cast round nose, 158 grains, the same type as the ones I've been having issues with. I loaded them over 3.5 grains of Unique, with a 1.45 OAL. Initial results are positive. They don't appear to be tumbling, and relatively accurate. I loaded another 10 rounds of those, and 10 rounds of the exact same charge/ OAL with the original bullets. I'm planning to actually get a good rest out and do a definitive side by side comparison before long, but initial results are good.
  23. You know why I have the old IH to mow with now? Because the last time I worked on the YardMan, I was yea close to getting the Mosin out and fixing it for good. Good thing your Murray didn't get us to that point.
