I think a victim is required before a crime has been committed. Who was harmed by him possessing marijuana and a firearm?
-
"The officers observed the driver, later identified as Mr. Keith Lamont Scott, rolling what they believed to be a marijuana “blunt.” Officers did not consider Mr. Scott’s drug activity to be a priority at the time and they resumed the warrant operation. A short time later, Officer Vinson observed Mr. Scott hold a gun up. Because of that, the officers had probable cause to arrest him for the drug violation and to further investigate Mr. Scott being in possession of the gun." I guess I don't see where the brandishing was, but that depends on exactly what happened in the car where he was sitting. In either case, short of pointing a gun at someone I don't believe it they should've had cause to make contact. It could've been someone with a HCP unholstering to go into a posted business, or any number of things. I'm aware that possessing a firearm and marijuana are both crimes in Charlotte, but why are they? Not to pick nits, but 4 do.

Actually, that's not true. 25 states have legalized marijuana, along with DC. Marijuana is legal in some form in most of the country, and half the states with I think 5 more set to vote on it next month. This is the point I was trying to make. Instead of saying "Well, he broke the law and had it coming" I'd like to see more people questioning and even working on fixing a lot of laws that shouldn't exist to start with. I have problems with the laws that allowed the officers to initiate contact in the first place in this situation. After the officers escalated the situation by initiating contact, should he have been shot? The only way I can answer that is to put myself in the officers' shoes. As a private citizen that carries a handgun, could I legally shoot someone that's engaging in whatever activity this individual was?

Instead of accusing me of just trying to spin people up, why not address the points I tried to make? I'm sorry you find my difference of opinion delusional, kind of makes it difficult to have a reasonable discussion when one side has already appointed themselves unquestionably correct. I apologize if my questioning of authority has threatened your safe space, from now on I will try to use more socially appropriate trigger warnings before I question the common point of view here. When the officers approached him, did they know he was a felon with a gun or had they just observed a gun and what appeared to be a joint? I would go so far as the say the fact he's a felon with a gun shouldn't be a crime, but that's a debate for another time. The officers observed a firearm and what they assumed to be a small amount of marijuana. If they are otherwise on a mission to serve a warrant, why are they bothering with this guy that's just minding his own business? Is their warrant really not that important? Is a single joint such a heinous crime? The officers chose to initiate contact with an individual that was minding his own business. Now that individual is dead. If the officers had stayed focused on their assigned task serving a warrant, things might be different. Instead they decided that one individual with one joint was more important and now he's dead. Possession of a small amount of marijuana and a firearm resulted in death. "Well he should've listened to the cops" Well they should've been busy serving a warrant instead of harassing him. On the one hand, you break the rules and you take your chances. I just want people to look at the bigger picture and question why some of these ridiculous rules exist to start with.

So he was shot because he had a joint and a handgun at the same time. "No, he was shot because he didn't listen to the police!" He wasn't hurting anyone. Why did the police have to even get involved? To protect and serve? As a member of the public, I don't feel any safer. They killed a guy who enjoyed firearms and the occasional toke. That could've been an awful lot of people I know personally.

Alabama, Georgia declare state of emergency after pipeline spill

The bypass system is setup and working, but they'll be doing soil remediation for a long time. -
Do you have a Ram 1500 Eco diesel or a 1979 Kenworth? Diesel mechanic covers a pretty broad range.

I'm trying to find a way to license my plow truck in TN. [emoji56][emoji38]

Dually. If I recall correctly, Sumner county tested all diesel under 12,000 lbs GWV. My 2001 dually is 12,500 so it just squeaked past. [emoji38] It's all factory anyway, but nice not to have the hassle. -
I listed three. Give me some time and I don't doubt I can think of more.

If you're a fan of the TSA security theater that's fine, but I'm not. I don't like to fly, but I've lost the option now because I won't volunteer to play their games. Have you tried to get a CDL hazmat endorsement? Post 9-11, it's become a much more involved, expensive process. How about an agricultural pesticide license? I'm working on that now, six weeks into what used to be a two day process. Those are real things that have affected me directly. We also have the NSA and Homeland Security spying on US citizens without warrants and suing for access to locked devices because the government thinks they have the right to every portion of our lives. That's just off the top of my head, could probably find more with a bit of thought.

And it's about our freedom, the very thing so many men and women have fought and died for. How can we honor them and honor their sacrifice if we make no mention of how what they sacrificed for has been lost?

I'll admit, I'm just helping and not really sure what the entire plan is. We did yeast starter, but no oxygen stone and it's generally at room temperature in the basement.

This is a great point. I don't think our kit is a Mr Beer brand, but it too was way too short on the bottling time. It said to bottle after a week, we're going at least two.

While people are rightly focused on remembering the foreign terrorists that attacked the US on 9-11, a lot of folks are all too willing if not downright eager to forget the domestic terrorists that did the same. If the day that started one of, if not the greatest assaults on personal freedom in America is not an acceptable time to remember it, what day is?
-
I prefer to remember everything we've lost due to 9-11, not just the stuff we saw on TV.

Fixed that...

We brewed a few years ago, just got back into it and started a batch last week. May bottle next weekend.

An auction/ Cowboy's dream!!!

You made history. I think you're the first person that's ever gotten a good deal at a gun auction. Nice collection. -
That's pretty much where I am. It was a tasteless, stupid ad but I don't think it's quite worthy of the death threats they've received.

Who could possibly think this was a good idea? http://www.ksat.com/news/outrage-building-after-san-antonio-mattress-company-makes-twin-tower-commercial

We adopted the east bound stretch of Hwy 386 from mile marker 4 to marker 6 several years ago and held a cleanup day. There were several of us that were there, there's a thread and photos here somewhere from that day. I passed the organizer torch and all the supplies to Lagerhead, I really couldn't say what became of the program after that. When I was down in TN back in June our sign was still up on Hwy 386.

Only if the damage was under $500 if I'm reading it right. I think it's closer to a class D felony, damage from $10,000-60,000.
