  1. Well, if ya get the chance tell him that Grandpa needs more PBR. Have Rudolph swing by the corner store.
  2. Alright, just to play devil's advocate; How would having a gun help here? Planning to draw, aim, and fire at a man in your backseat that already has a gun drawn on you? I think some situational awareness would be more important than a firearm.
  3. It's where I went, too. Good selection, great service. If I ever need another safe, I plan to go there first. I haven't seen too many other companies really put their money where their mouth is, and attempt to destroy their products on video to demonstrate what they can hold up to.
  4. Do you recall where that place was? Creative idea.
  5. Don't just take my word for it, but continue to shop around. The gauge of metal and fire ratings were similar when I was shopping, so just ask what are you really getting for the extra money? Is the locking assembly that much better? If it's just as easy to cut through the side, does the locking assembly being better (if it is) really matter that much? Is a different interior layout or outer finish worth the cost? Sometimes, it is. I bought my Browning largely because it had an organizer, complete with long gun racks on the inside of the door. The problem is, the long gun racks on the door prevent you from being able to use the slots in the interior closest to the door. The lower portion of the door rack eliminated the use of about 6 spaces inside the safe, if I recall properly.
  6. Starts with a key, like a car. Idles pretty low and quietly though, almost sounds like a golf cart when it's just sitting there. Looked them up online, that looks like just the thing. Thanks!
  7. See? And I was just about to ask what you wanted it for. You beat me to it. May I make a request? As a person whose job often has him on the side of a busy roadway, please don't use a strobe light if you're just cruising down the road. The more people see them around, the more desensitized they get to them. That means that folks make less and less of an effort to allow a safe operating space for those of us who are on the side of the interstate because we have to be. If you have a large enough vehicle to be hauling the load you're hauling, you shouldn't need any extra warning lights. If you don't have a large enough vehicle, then you shouldn't be hauling that load. I'm not trying to just be a jerk, but it's a bit different scenario when you're crawling underneath a car less than 2' from 75+ MPH traffic, than when you're cruising down the road with some scrap metal.
  8. I got it home, unloaded it, and drove it around for a while. It wasn't until I drove it out to the shop to work on something else that I realized there was no cupholder. There's a glovebox on the passenger's side, but that really isn't going to work. John Deere makes replacement fenders that have a cupholder built into them. They're $95.00 apiece. The official John Deere tape on cupholder is $15 or $20, depending on where you buy it. I think I can buy one of those plastic, .99 cent ones from somewhere that's supposed to hang on a car door, and just attach it myself. The fact that the first question y'all asked was "Is there a PBR cupholder" is making me laugh.
  9. It does not. John Deere wants something like $15.00 for a plastic cupholder that attaches with that adhesive tape stuff. I'm thinking I'll just go to the dollar store.
  10. It probably is too wide for most trails, and kind of slow. Only two wheel drive, too. That said, it climbs the hill pretty well and most of my trails are old logging roads that are cleared enough to go down with the tractor. It's got an aftermarket cab on it, but the windshield is missing. Has the top and doors, though. I took the doors off for now, and need to get some plexiglass or something to make a windshield.
  11. Well, I bought a 2004 JD Gator this morning. Bought it on consignment through a dealer, got no title but did get a bill of sale. They said JD didn't title the Gators, they treated them like a lawnmower or a tractor. In any case, this thing is fun. I bought it to carry hay bales and fence posts, but I've got to admit I had a blast just riding around playing with it.
  12. At the time, I don't think I had a functional torch. If I had, I would've used it. My original goal was to torture test the safe. After about half an hour of hacking at it, I just wanted to get it cut open by whatever means I could so that I could clean it out and get rid of it.
  13. A safe is nothing but a metal box with sheetrock inside. As long as the metal gauge (thickness) is comparable, in my opinion very few of the consumer grade gun safes offer a huge difference in strength. If you do a search here, you'll find that The Safe House (one of our vendors) did a torture test of a Champion safe by attacking it with everything from prybars to a forklift. While they tore the crap out of it, they didn't get in. I happened to get that very safe a bit later, and did my own testing on it. I attacked that safe with a reciprocating saw, an air powered die grinder, a 4" electric angle grinder, and a sledgehammer. It took me about two hours and an awful lot of saw blades/ grinding wheels to get that safe open to the point that I could shovel out the destroyed sheetrock. I really like the Champion line. Were I to buy again, I would probably buy a Champion.
  14. I would stay away from Line X of Madison. I had them do a liner in the back of my work truck. It looked okay (for the most part) when it was new, but it has not held up well at all. It's peeling in multiple places, and you can see where it has peeled that the paint it bright and shiny underneath, which indicates that they did no prep work. I did quite a bit of research on liner companies, as I'm planning to have some body panels on my truck done. The #1 thing I kept finding was that preparation would make or break any brand of liner, and was the most important thing. The guys in Madison didn't do any prep work that I can find. As a result, my liner is peeling out. They also the inside of one of the doors. It looked awful when they first did it, and has not gotten better. It doesn't even look like liner, it looks like someone use 2 year old spray paint out of a rattle can. It's thick and chunky in a spot or two, and barely resembles overspray in others. Yes, I am aware that Line X offers a lifetime warranty. Unfortunately, this is a work truck that I have to have every day. I simply haven't had the opportunity to strip it all back down and be without it for a week or so to have the liner repaired. Besides, I really have no reason to believe it would be correctly repaired if I were to take it back to them. They would probably simply respray the peeling places, which in my opinion is a sub-par solution. Since you can easily see that no prep work was done, the right fix would be to remove the entire liner, prep it properly, and respray. If they didn't have the time to do it right the first go round, I doubt they have the ethics to do it right the second. I like the Line X product. I just can't recommend the Madison Line X dealer.
  15. I'm looking for a used side by side, JD Gator type thing to use on the farm. Do these things have titles or need to be registered in TN? I have no plans to ever operate it on a public roadway, so I wouldn't think any title or registration would be needed. I've never owned one though, so I wanted to check. Thanks!
  16. On second thought, how did you move the safe in? Do that, but push it outside instead of inside.
  17. Appliance dolly, and several friends. If it's only one or two stairs, y'all might be able to go down with the dolly. If it's several, do you have any neighbors or friends that own tractors or forklifts?
  18. We didn't have any burnt food today. I had a frozen pizza get a little extra crispy last night, but that's a different story.
  19. It's hard to believe that America is still going strong since Jesus' three ships -- the Mayweather, Pacquiao and Santa Marina -- struck ground at Jamestown TN that day in 1492. I'm so thankful those first Americans were welcomed by Sitting Bull and Dances with Wolves, and that they and the rest of the Aztecs gave us this land we love. I like to imagine what it was like to sit down at the First Supper as the Indians tried "Greenbean Casserole," while those new Americans tried their first "S'mores" (which were called "maze" by the Aztecs). So much love spread across that first harvest table... May we all be rewarded for our steadfast perseverance with great savings tomorrow, such as the HP AMD Dual-Core Laptop available only at Wal-Mart for $248 (Walmart.com: Save money. Live better.). The Great Savings start at midnight tonight! Be sure to check out Wal-Mart's other great deals! Wal-Mart: Save Money. Live Better. What? Is that not right?
  20. The freedoms we all enjoy as Americans are hardly a comparison to a union system. I do not manipulate the government in order to succeed. I don't milk the welfare/ unemployment/ other government assistance program in addition to going out and earning an honest living. 'Using a system', as you describe it, seems no different to me than collecting unemployment or Social Security/ Disability while working for cash under the table. Just to be clear, I'm not mad at union members. I do not understand their decision, but I'll let it go at that. I do question why anyone would want to be a union member, though. If you're an excellent employee, why do you need a union? If you're that good at what you do, be it working on an assembly line or fixing cars, what do you gain for the dues you pay? If your employer will not pay what you feel your services are worth, then the employer down the road will. If no employer will pay that amount, then the market has decided your skill set is only worth XX amount. That is how the free market works. Your options are to either go out on your own, shouldering the costs and risks associated with operating a business, or to change your skill set through education or other means to be worth more in the open market. Unions are a false market. They come in and try to force an employer to pay an above market wage for a market quality job. That can't last, as it puts the employee in an adversarial situation with the employer, and often results in either side simply trying to get the most for the least out of the other. That situation can't last, as the two sides can never truly pull together to be the best they can be. A good company needs good employees. Good employees are attracted and retained by a fair wage and/ or good benefits. A union simply gets in the way of those things working in the free market.
  21. For one, I'm just an anti- union guy. Unions are a micro- socialist system. Everybody earns the same pay, regardless of skill or experience. Why work hard, when the guy next to you sits on his rear end and makes the same pay? It puts the employee in an adversarial relationship with the employer, which isn't good for either one. It works better when they're on the same team, pulling together to make the company succeed. For two, I was around the IBEW for almost 20 years. My father was an IBEW member. Travelled, met guys working local out the the hall and guys working on a traveller's ticket. Been to more Reunions than I can count; heck, I probably have a hat or T shirt from most of the IBEW Reunions back to the 80's. In all that time, I've seen a lot of corruption and associated problems, from guys double booking to dragging up jobs just because they could. I knew some guys set up complete home shops with tools from jobsites and contractors that hired them. The union looked the other way. I'd just as soon not associate with an organization like that, especially when I can do better on my own anyway.
  22. I completely disagree, and would advise folks stay away. If you're a great electrician, and can't find an electrical company that fits you, why not go out on your own? Why do you need a big brother union to step in and take care of you?
  23. Heck, I don't even understand what they're mad about. Capitalism? The fact that the real world expects you to actually work in order to get paid, and not just sit around and have things handed to you?
  24. I think we were all wondering... Seriously, sorry to hear that. Not sure how far you want to drive, but the Shell station in Gallatin has a now hiring sign up.
