So the preachers intentionally went there to be inflammatory, unless you truly believe a sign that says "Repent or else" is going to change hearts and minds. People became inflamed and fired up. We're surprised by that? No, they shouldn't have been attacked. Yes, the people responsible should be held accountable. But it would be like a black guy going to a KKK rally with a sign that calls them ignorant fools. You know that nobody's mind will be changed, and nothing good will come of it. Does any of this even matter? I believe in under five years we will see gay marriage/ civil unions recognized at the federal level, at least for the states that allow it. Imagine that. Some states allowing things, other states not... It's almost like the way the country was intended to work...

But if one repents, then intentionally commits the same sin again, has there truly been any repentance? Lots of folks 'repent' of their sins every Sunday, only to go play out the same script again Monday through Saturday night. Yet they will be the first to turn out and rail against all the evils of secular society. There are a growing number of churches that do not believe homosexuality (being attracted to the same sex, not necessarily any physical acts) is a sin. Whether they're right or wrong I can't say, but the fact is they're out there. How does that fit into the equation?

TGO truckers, your opinion on new Fed laws for taking breaks
56FordGuy replied to TMF's topic in General Chat
Some days, it just is what it is. I've...known guys...that left out at 6:00 AM, and rolled back in at 1:00 AM. "A log book on my dash, and one under my seat..." as they say. Unload the last piece of heavy equipment at 10:30 PM and head home. Those days are quickly fading though, and I think we're all glad to see them go. E-logs seem like they would just speed the process along. -
I picked up a used hydro walk behind this year. It was the best thing I've ever done for my yard. I was mowing with a small Cub tractor and 60" deck. The walk behind is a 54" and cuts more of my yard faster, and does a better job at it. I live on the side of a hill, and the walk behind is no comparison to a lawn tractor for stability. Much better. All the weight is down low, and if things do go bad you can just let go of it and step backwards. The only downside to the walkbehind on a hill is that it doesn't do wet slopes well. It looks like your yard is a little less sloped than mine, so you may not have an issue. If I go out to mow too soon after a rain, the mower will slide downhill in a couple of spots. Just not heavy enough to get a good bite through the wet grass. That's a good thing overall though, lighter machines put less stress and wear on the yard when mowing.

With some of the changes to the law in the last few years, having a CDL at all is becoming a big pain in the rear. I don't recall the written test being very expensive. I think just the test was something like $12.00. After my road test I had to get a new license with my CDL info printed on it, that cost me the replacement license fee. Renewals are more expensive, and must be done in person at the DMV. No more renewing by mail. That's just off the top of my head...

A friend of mine took a dock job at Con-Way. They put him through their own driving school and he drives for them now. That's an option, though I really doubt Greg is looking to make a career change to get his CDL for the job he already has.

When I did my last one it was a basic drug test, followed by an eye chart. They did blood pressure, hernia, don't recall if they checked reflexes or not. Other than the hernia check, I don't recall anything terribly up close and personal.

Medical cards are easy. Have to be renewed every 2 years, unless you have issues with blood pressure, and a couple of other things I don't remember. It's just a basic physical and a drug test. Testing is just like you said. Take the written test early if you can and get your permit. It's not required, but it makes your life easier. Once you feel ready, you'll have to call and schedule a road test. When you go for the road test, the examiner will do a pre-trip truck inspection with you and grade you on it. They will also want to see the current CDL driver that brought the truck down for you. If you fail your pretrip, either because the truck has issues or you forget to check things, they will not let you road test. I got points off for saying "Check alternator belt" and not physically pointing to it. Depending on the examiner, they can be picky. Once you pretrip, you'll do some basic maneuvers in the parking lot around some cones. After that's done, the examiner gets in the truck with you and y'all go for a drive. Nothing too stressful for mine, I went to the DMV on Hart Lane. I just got a letter the other day stating that I have to renew my medical card and submit it to the state by a certain date or lose my CDL. Always had to keep it up to drive the trucks, but never had to send it to the state before.

This. Not everything revolves around fuel mileage. Sometimes things are fun, and that costs money, and it's worth it. No different than going to the movies or buying a new video game. Congrats on the truck!

Church asks boys scouts to leave.

Or, y'know...you could try thinking for yourself. Why bother to study on your own, just parrot what the man in the pulpit/ on the radio/ Fox/ CNN/ etc has to say. It's just so much easier. -

The John Deere mowers sold at big box stores are also sold at John Deere dealerships. They're the exact same models, and exact same price. That's why the box stores will sometimes run a sale where you get a free cart with the mower. They're not allowed to discount the mowers for less than the dealers sell them for. For average lawn mowing, you'll probably be fine with about anything if you maintain it. I'd prefer a Murray to any MTD product, and I'd prefer a Deere to either. If you go JD, buy from the dealer. When the mowers arrive at the box store, they come in crates. They're uncrated and driven out front. Someone from the dealer comes by and slaps a sticker on them. When you buy from a dealer, they should actually have set the mower up. Level the deck, ensure it cuts properly, etc.

If I were closer, I could help you. I've seen some landscaping/ lawn mowing guys around here hauling small tractors, might check with some landscapers.

Strange how folks who do recall Reagan are so enamored with his legacy. I'm sure they've examined all his writings, speeches, etc with their own critical thinking skills instead of just remembering the flash and pizaz of a skilled politician 'good ole boy' that seemed like a savior at the time.

Explosions at Boston Marathon finish line

Saw an article saying the fire at JFK library was a malfunction in the mechanical room, not a bomb. Edit: article is on the Dorchester Reporter website, can't link to it for some reason. -
You do not have permission to access that function.

I was trying to edit the title of a For Sale ad, and tried to change the little icon from "Sale" to "Sold". When I hit submit, I got a message that I did not have permission to do that. It let me close the topic though. -
I've been on the fence about purchasing an air rifle. Any opinions of the ones they have for sale?

Wanted to see if there were any recommendations for a plumber in the Gallatin/ Westmoreland/ Bethpage area. I have a water leak, and as best I can tell it's in the main line from my meter. Considering having the complete line replaced, as I have no idea how old it is. I want to get someone else to look at it, if it does turn out to be in the main line then I want to get a few estimates on having it done. It will be a pretty decent size job, as my meter is a long way from the house. Any favorite companies?

100 round box? Don't know, haven't bought any for a while. Didn't think Academy had any ridiculous markup.
-
Nor is .10/ round for .22, unless it's some special stuff.

I like that hat. I'd wear it. :) The camo and stripes, eh...I don't know. I'd wear that too, but I have it on good authority that my sense of style is horrible.

They sell .22 LR brass. Their 250,000 round drums are sold out at $1,020 apiece.
