  1. I thought they passed something indicating that the furloughed workers that were working through the shutdown would receive their back pay when they get things going again. Is that right?   It's better than nothing, but still can put folks in a hard spot when the money stops coming in.
  2. I've wanted to learn to play the banjo for years, never made a point to follow up on it. Hardly have time for what I'm doing right now...   Good luck!
  3. I don't expect anything to come of it. Truckers can hardly agree on anything, much less politics. Really think the Teamsters are going to get behind an anti-Obama event? Even if they all did agree, it costs a lot of money to run a truck without paying freight.    Besides, the DOT guys would have a field day busting drivers anywhere around DC. Random inspections, equipment violations, log book problems...give them long enough, they can find something wrong if they really want to.
  4. The Remington 552 Speedmaster (semi auto) and 572 Fieldmaster (pump action) will both feed and shoot .22 shorts. Stamped on the barrel of mine. They should feed in the bolt if its a tube magazine.
  5. Interesting information, but I believe the original post was referring to the Centennial Park in Nashville, TN. :)
  6.   I have almost exactly this in progress right now., but mine is an A1 replica. I'll send you some links when I can find them again.
  7. This. I've never built an upper, but have done several lowers. Be glad to help anyone in the area put a lower together.
  8. Off to a fine start!    How did you attach the handle? It almost looks like the head has a spike driven down into the handle.
  9.   Radio said truck involved with 3 cars, accident with potential oil spill.    Doesn't sound like anything anyone wanted to be part of!
  10.   I wouldn't clean it up just yet.    If you do, try the electrolisys process instead of blasting. All you need is a battery charger, washing soda, water, and a plastic bucket. I'm sure you can find some scrap metal as well. It's incredibly easy and works really well. Much gentler on any original marking that might be there than any other method I've tried.
  11. I've fought with some tough filters, but this sounds extreme. A screwdriver through the side with enough leverage should either turn the filter or tear the metal. A good strap wrench should get the job done, the worst I've ever had them do is crush the sides of the filter in. You aren't reusing the filter, so who cares? Crush the sides in, tighten the wrench up, and keep going until it turns or comes apart.    If all else fails, you can do what Spots suggested. Take a chisel to the sealing edge of the filter and tap it in a counter clockwise direction. That should get it to break loose. Only problem might be having the space to get a hammer and chisel in there!
  12. She's average at best and I'm not particularly fond of her. I'll be voting for her opponent if I'm still in her district next go round.
  13.   I'm not an AR guy, so I'm not going to say you're outright wrong.    As a metalworking guy though, I don't think it's quite as extreme unless the sight is press fit critical, in which case why even bother with tapered pins? It may be more work to set up than a lot of gunsmiths/ home builders are set up for, but I see no reason a machinst couldn't set up a barrel and sight in a mill with everything indexed properly and make them work together just fine.   Just my thought though, and I've never built an AR upper before. :)
  14. The front sight is one time use? Not to disagree with you, but I've never heard that before. I've dealt with three different gunsmiths trying to get my barrel issue sorted out, and all of them were willing to install my existing front sight onto a suitable barrel once I found one.
  15. Fill me in? As best I can tell, the sight I have is an A1 front sight that fits the smaller barrel diameter. .625 maybe? I'd have to measure.
  16. I looked at it. I already have the front sight I want to use, and I think the pencil barrel will fit the overall style of this rifle better. I need to do some more digging on that to see what's "accurate" for this one.
  17. At this point it may end up with whatever barrel I can find. I bought an A1 parts kit on Gunbroker that included a barrel, and that did not go well. I ended up just putting the project in the back of the safe and leaving it alone. I need to get back to the search for a barrel.
  18. I'm working on an A1 myself. Got everything but the barrel. Nice A2!
  19. Don't believe Mr Jones was cutting grass though. :) I don't care for lawn work. Can't afford to hire it done though, so I do it. Last quote I got wanted $250/ week to mow and trim. I have a difficult yard, sure. I can do it myself in about two hours though. No way I'm paying that kind of money for someone else to do it.

    Plow day

That's awesome. Nice to see some horse drawn equipment used for something other than yard art.
  21.   My neighbors killed one a couple of years ago, and we're just north of Gallatin. I didn't measure it, but it stretched all the way across the hood of the Jeep and then some.
  22.   It sure beats the alternative!   That said, my back, shoulders, neck, knees, and side all take turns hurting on a regular basis.  :-\
  23. You will also need a scale to measure the charge you put in. Your best bet is to try and find the guy you bought them from and see if you can return them. It's a long shot though.
