It was the right call, but at the same time I kind of hate that it ended so soon. It's like watching a bad weather car crash compilation on Youtube.

Shotgun Penetration Question? (Not what you think it is)
56FordGuy replied to SourwoodJD's topic in General Chat
I suspect the cost of metal stout enough to work will be more expensive than the attachment for the thrower so nobody has to physically tend it. I wouldn't try any non-metal stop, heck personally I wouldn't even do this. I'd find a different plan. You got a deal on the thrower you said, so spend the savings on the correct attachments. If there's ever any issue with your shooting- and I mean anything from neighbors with noise complaints, someone steps in a gopher hole and twists an ankle, or heaven forbid anything worse and you end up in court the fact that you're shooting at/ over a person's position pretty much makes you negligent in the eyes of a jury no matter how unrelated the reason you're in court is. Hopefully it never comes to that, but this whole idea just makes me pretty nervous. Why does the thrower have to be downrange? I don't know much (anything) about actual shotgun competitions, but it seems to me there should be another way to accomplish this without putting people in front of the firing line. -
TSC is expanding big time, three new stores are opening in Wyoming and northern Colorado. Closest one to me is a two hour drive. Service is good at the four I've been to out here though.

Yup, I like a lot of III's stuff. There are also guys like Dale Watson, Wayne Hancock and a few others still out there making decent music.
-
Honestly, not as much as it used to. Much like Dale, I can't fight for it anymore. The tide has turned and our country is gone. Keith has done everything Hank did now, and Chris saddled up that ole black horse at the end of the trail. Country music has a song for everything, a real honest expression of emotion. Mr. Williams was speaking for more than just himself when he said we'd never get out of this world alive, and our music has been no exception. There are still a few devoted fans out here, and a handful of artists still playing what we want to hear. If the "country music audience" doesn't want any of it, that's just fine. Odds are I'd rather not have them around anyway.
-
Ever say "Hank Williams" and the person you're talking to responds with "Isn't he the football guy?" :shake: I'm just done with it. I don't talk about music anymore because I get sick of being asked who I'm talking about or hearing "Oh yeah, I love country music. Florida Georgia Line..." Unless the next phrase is "died in a fire", I don't care what they did. Don't tell me you love country music and then stand there with a blank stare when someone says Keith Whitley, Randy Travis, Hank Snow, Roy Acuff, etc...stupid little hipster fags. I'm done. I have 900 Hank songs on iTunes.

A friend of mine hunts the Wyoming side right above the state line. He took a great bull a few years ago. My only advice is to have a plan to get it out. Pack horses are a good option if you're familiar with horses, otherwise I'd hunt somewhere fairly close to vehicle access.

In my experience, I've found the people that know what they're doing- whether it's metalwork, leatherwork, horse training, firearms training, etc are out there doing it and not making internet videos of themselves doing it so they can "prove" that they know what they're doing. Todd and Dustin had a good thing going, and didn't need goofy videos to prove it.

What are TGOers putting on their Christmas list this year?
56FordGuy replied to Spots's topic in General Chat
Knowing him, I will practically guarantee it didn't.  -
We just went through this a couple of weeks ago. If your toe vehicle has TN tags, the trailer with no tag is perfectly legal.

Discount in Gallatin put two or three sets on my work truck, put a set on our Subaru and on the horse trailer. I've always been happy with them. I almost replaced the tires on my flatbed trailer before heading west with it, but I didn't. Rolled the dice, had two blowouts and ended up buying tires at a WalMart in Missouri. Should've gone to Discount first. They seem to have their stuff together as a chain. The Discount Tire in Cheyenne, Wyo called me today to tell me the tires they ordered for my work truck are in and I can come by to have them put on. Super nice people and great to work with, even dealing with the oddball tires this thing has to have.

I'd be doing good just to learn to play, never mind the rest of it. YouTube videos and a book, just need to find more time to practice.

Save Monkeyman ... Or not ... (Classic Car Advice)
56FordGuy replied to MrsMonkeyMan2500's topic in General Chat
I went through this exact decision with my 1956 F-350. It was the only vehicle I owned for two or three years, I did everything with it. Hauled hay and horses, remodeled part of the house, and used it like a truck. Everywhere I went in it was like being at a one truck car show, especially if I was using it to pick up building supplies or do "work" instead of just driving it around. It was a whole lot of fun, but eventually I had to buy a newer truck to pull a bigger trailer down the interstate. With a top speed of about 55 and manual brakes the old green one left a bit to be desired. The old truck got parked under the carport and basically ignored. Still liked it, but never drove it and new it needed a few rust repairs that I was unlikely to ever do. I put it up for sale once, had some interest but it didn't sell at the time. I resigned to just keep it, bought the one time antique plates and I only drove it a couple of times in the next few months. It was literally sitting and rotting away. A bit later a gentleman approached me about buying it, but I had pretty well decided to just let it sit. We talked a couple of times, I sent him a bunch of photos, and ended up selling it to him. Part of the reason why was because I knew he'd do something with it- he restored old Ford tractors and wanted the truck to haul them with. I delivered it to him and got to see some of the other stuff he'd fixed up, and sure enough he did the same to my old truck. He fixed the rust, replaced the rotten bed wood, and even found some needed repairs that I hadn't known about. If I'd kept that truck, if it didn't settle into the driveway where it sat it probably would've grenaded itself and not been fixed. I hate to admit that, but it's true. I didn't need it and didn't have a whole lot of money to sink into it, even if I had known about some of the deeper issues. I had the truck and enjoyed it, selling it didn't change that. Every once in a while I think it would be nice to have again, when the weather is good and there's a truck or tractor show, but the reality is if I'd kept it the odds of it being in any shape to go anywhere are slim. Vehicles deteriorate from sitting. Tires get old and fail, rodents get in and do damage, batteries get weak, fuel sets up- and it's really hard to spend money and time fixing the "toy" once your initial interest has softened so things go unrepaired until it needs a whole lot of money put into it to be back at the level it is now. Instead of letting it sit and rot, pass it on to someone that will use and enjoy it. Better to keep it alive than rust away just so you can still own it. There's a rancher right down the road from me with generations of vehicles and equipment rusting away in a back field. Numerous Willys Jeeps, probably 20 pickups from the 30s-40s-50s, and farm equipment dating back to the turn of the century. ATVs, snow machines, a few fairly new trucks all just rotting away while they struggle to keep the lights on. He won't sell anything though, because it all has family history or has been on the ranch so long. Never mind that selling it would help them, help others that can actually use the equipment, or that if they don't it will all end up scrapped when they lose the place he's hanging on to it. I know that isnt quite your situation, but don't be that guy. Don't be the guy with Grandpas 1942 F-100 rusting under a tree in the back yard that you're "going to fix up one day". You've been around car guys, you know the people in talking about. If you don't need it, and don't use it much let it go to someone that will enjoy it, and enjoy the memories and the time you had with it. -
Installing Air Lift Loader Lifter 5000 on F150 without removing tires?
56FordGuy replied to macville's topic in General Chat
With the trailer and the bed loaded, you may be over your rear axle weight rating. Suspension mods won't help that. I'd load it up and go weigh it so you know exactly what you're dealing with. -
Sometimes I think we are. Certainly not everyone, but we seem to have some really sorry folks running around amongst us.
-
I know you've probably settled this by now, but I just wanted to chime in again. I have a flatbed trailer that I bought used in TN with a bill of sale. I've now been to the clerk's office here in Wyoming three times, had to have their specific forms filled out and notarized, called the sheriff for a VIN inspection and now they want a letter from the state of TN- and I suspect even that may not be enough. At this point I don't know if a letter from the Pope would be enough. If you think you may ever move or sell that trailer out of state, get the title now. You'll save yourself a huge amount of hassle later, and have a larger buyer pool. Most people won't deal with the headache I'm having to. Heck, if I didn't have to have the trailer right now I'd sell it in TN and buy another one out here with a Wyoming title already.

High School kid suspended for defending a blind kid.
56FordGuy replied to K191145's topic in General Chat
An assault is an assault, regardless of the victim. Morally it makes the guy a bigger scumbag because he was beating up a blind kid, but I don't know if it should legally. I just get really nervous when we start giving people special protections. -

What's disappointing, but not surprising, is the number of kids just standing around watching. -
Where can I get, and what are they called?

I'd like a picture of a battle field paint mixer. -
Heard yesterday he made a statement trying to justify the use of imminent domain when he was building a casino parking lot in Atlantic city. I don't see much conservative small government there, but that's just me.

Sucks that you're stuck, but at least you have company. Heck, you may be on the way home by now. I had a similar experience, coming off a 20 hour drive from TN to Wyo. Got off on the exit ramp in Cheyenne, hit the clutch and the pedal hit the floor. I was able to float gears and limp the truck and a 35' trailer through town to a Napa store, then replaced the entire hydraulic system in their parking lot. Hope you make it home safe without any more trouble!

Impossible? Can't be done? Maybe not if you "need" new vehicles, cell phones, dinner out, movies, etc. People have to choose what's important- more lifestyle spending now, or a more solid future later. A lot of people just aren't willing to sacrifice now to build a solid foundation for later, which is their choice. I can assure you though, it can most certainly be done because I did it and if I can, anyone can.

I thought the thread was fairly civil, myself. While a couple of posts (mine included) didn't directly answer "what's the best credit card", it would be like someone posting and asking "how do I make my own bungee jumping rope". I have to think someone would step in and mention that maybe there are more preferable ways to go about getting bungee jumping equipment than making it in your garage. In more relatable terms, it's like any thread here where someone says "I'm intersected in XYZ carry gun" and then a discussion of XYZ vs four other similar guns takes place.

Your garage floor is probably only 4" thick, and the concrete itself probably isn't as strong as where you were setting a 13,000 lb machine. I would practically guarantee a chain wrapped around the top of a 5' tall safe will have enough leverage to either break your all thread anchors, break the concrete, or just rip through the bottom of your safe. At best the safe is usually no thick than 10 gauge steel. Speaking of, what else is in your garage? Do you have a grinder, a reciprocating saw, cutting torch, heck even an axe or wood splitting maul? Any of the above will go through the side of most residential gun safes without too much trouble. All they are is a sheet metal box with a fancy door. In any case, I'm not too excited about putting my safe right next to all the tools a person would need to cut it open.
