  1. I started carrying a Glock 23 over a decade ago because I'm left handed and never could find a holster that could prevent the safety from swiping off sometime during the day when carrying a 4" Kimber Compact. Unholstering at the end if the day & discovering you have been carrying cocked & unlocked is not a comforting feeling. I have tried a number of holsters from Alessi to Uncle Mike and none prevented the safety from swiping off. I even tried installing a ambi safety and grinding the left side lever down to nearly nothing & somehow sometime during the day I would still manage to bump against something & swipe it off. The Kimber is a little more accurate off sandbags, but I shoot the Glock just as well. The Glock is a little thicker, but not much, and enough lighter to be much more comfortable, esp. by the end of the day. I also have 5 more rounds in the G23.
  2. I never noticed the bump before, but when I checked my 3rd Gen. G30 it has one. So I looked at my G17, 23, and 27 & they don't have the bump. Now my next question is who cares? They all go bang when the trigger is pulled, bump or no bump. ??? What difference does the bump make?
  3. I love the way mine shoots, but it feels like I'm carrying a brick IWB, so have gone back to the G23 for every day carry. Probably would feel better if I lost about 10#......
  4. Humm..... Back to the original post: I never thought it anybody else's business. If you don't tell anyone & keep it concealed it won't become an issue. At least that has been my experience for the past decade or so....
  5. Yeah, this one sure didn't have the guns the Mid State Sportsman Club shows usually have! I guess if you're into "T" shirts, jewelry, cheap or really weird looking knives, swords, tables of olive drab metal objects that must have some purpose, or airsoft guns it was OK. If Ken's Guns hadn't been there with his what looked to me to be awfully high priced stuff spread over about a dozen tables, there wouldn't have been much that interested me. I was hoping to find some powder & primers, but didn't see any there at all. Oh well, the Mid State Sportsman's show will be in a couple of months......
  6. Scott's work is certainly outstanding & would be my first choice, as he has many years of experience with guns. Joyce Carroll, who works out of my shop in Sparta, could also do the engraving itself. She learned from Scott & does a lot of banjo engraving for me and also has engraved several banjos for Huber Banjos in Hendersonville. She keeps a Gravermiester in the shop for doing gun type engraving & is also quite skilled with wiggle tool, which most gun engravers don't use, but is used a lot on banjos where you want to cover a large area relatively quickly. Another issue is finish. We always engrave banjo parts that are stripped of plating or before they are plated. Since engraving cuts through the finish, which is on the surface of the metal, you probably will need to refinish the engraved parts....so that's something else that will need to be addressed. I'd ask Scott for some advice on the refinish question, as I'm sure he would have some suggestions. Jim
  7. Just found you guys while checking out a rumor about a gun show in Sparta this weekend! I have a fretted instrument repair shop a mile down the mountain from the Mid State Sportsman's Club range & after my hobby turned into my business about 20 years ago, I found myself needing a new hobby. Since the range is within walking distance, I started walking up there & shooting pistols about 10 years ago, which eventually led to reloading, and is now two new hobbies! Since it's too cold for shooting to be much fun today, I'm cranking out something to shoot when it warms up. Hope to see some of you at the show! Jim
  8. A couple of folks who came through my shop after the Crossville show said they thought it was pretty decent, so hopefully it's at least worth a drive into town. By the way, I just found you guys & thought I'd better do a first post.
