Lots of campsites along River Road and North River Road along the Tellico River and tributaries. Well within your distance. This is Cherokee National Forest. This is off the Cherohola Skyway out of Tellico Plains. Be sure to check out the very nice gun display in the gift shop in Tellico Plains. The gun display is worth the drive. oldogy

Which is best wireless or hard-wired home security system ?
oldogy replied to revmike's topic in General Chat
We have a several year old wireless/wired system in a business. It does give false alarms once in a while. Nothing like getting up at early am hours to investigate a false alarm. The false alarms show as coming from the wireless part. Components have been moved and or replaced but the problem still surfaces once a month or so. I still like wireless technology. Wiring is a PIA. oldogy -
“I disagree with Harold Koh on U.S. participation in the International Criminal Court and with many of his other views, but under our constitution I believe the president is entitled to an up or down vote on his legal advisers except in extraordinary circumstances.” This is the quote from Alexander on why he voted to confirm Koh. I asked Alexander why he did not consider a known anti gunner, anti second amendment candidate an exception. oldogy

Very much to do about nothing. Please spare us all the media hype this will bring. oldogy

June, 26, 2009 13:45. This came across one of the news updates I get. An extreme anti gunner :poop:has just been confirmed to the :poop:Hobama:poop: administration. And our own Lamar Alexander voted for confirmation. No wonder his lines are all busy. oldogy

Yep, Data mining is getting cheaper all the time as memory and storage devices become cheaper to build and maintain. oldogy

Done, with a few additional comments RE Koh. LIke, "We still operate under the Constitution of the United States as amended. Don't worry about what the rest of the world does." oldogy

Home Defense and Children's "training"
oldogy replied to S&WForty's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Each child is different. I have friends who were at age 9, driving farm tractors and doing meaningful work. They also knew their way around firearms very well at that age as did I. My family owned a business where there was lots of cash around and law enforcement would have been a long time arriving. Guns were kept loaded and everywhere accessible. My dad bought and sold a lot of guns. This was before FFL requirement. Both my parents could shoot well and my dad CCd. I learned very early not to touch guns. When my folks felt I was responsible enough to learn I was taught to shoot and handle guns....Read clean them so I knew how they worked. Some kids are much more mentally mature, able to access situations than others. That said, I know a thirteen YO boy that I would not allow to handle a gun at all. He, IMO, is a loose cannon. Welcome to TGO, KK. Yeah the laws, regulations, and rules by the various agencies make for a real convoluted mess for us to figure out the who, where, whats of being legal, not to mention the whys. Seems like it is pretty easy to spend more time figuring out what is legal than actually spending time in the great outdoors while legally protecting oneself. Many thanks to those who have given their opinion. I am sure we'll get it sorted out by the time the governor signs it or it stays on his desk for the time required for all this to become law. oldogy, who made a note to self to stay on topic. My understanding is that it is waiting on the governors signature.

My guess is you are hearing them at feeding time when mom brings a fresh worm or bug. If you start the fire you'll probably kill the young birds as they will not be able to vacate the nest. Let them go a week or so and they'll be gone. Turn on a radio or create some "white noise" of some kind in the mean time. oldogy Went back and reread the OP. When they fledge, they will be gone for good. You need a screen on the chimney to prevent them from returning.

Gonna have some folks over about 4 o'clock for some hamburgers, hot-dogs, and fresh sweetcorn. Yuuuummmmm. oldogy

Sen. Boxer to Brigadier General: 'Could you say 'senator' instead of 'ma'am?'
oldogy replied to a topic in General Chat
I tried calling B_ _ _ _ Boxer but all her voice mail boxes were full. I wonder why:rolleyes: I did email her with my comment of disgust. oldogy -
Neil Boortz, an attorney and libertarian, based out of Atlanta in the morning calls things as they are most times. Many stations around the country carry him. Rush, of course, in the afternoon is pretty much right on more often than not. Someone has to tell it like it is, not like the network news would have us believe. oldogy

Yes, many thanks for the posts. oldogy

I have been by the place hundreds of times but never stopped. We were showing some out of town friends our beautiful area and they wanted to stop at the Tellico Plains gift shop and museum. Gift shops are not my thing so I wandered into the museum that is in the same building. I was impressed. There are hundreds of guns, a very nice display of all types, from flintlock, military weaponry, to modern firearms. The museum has many other antiques and pictures related to the area. The facility is located on highway 165, the Cherohola Skyway, on the bypass of Tellico Plains. Mods, feel free to move this to general discussion. oldogy

If you fail the shooting part you really should not even be in the same room with a firearm. No action shots, 3, 7, 15yds. Relax and enjoy the class. Have fun. oldogy

You know what people? Be glad you're f***ing alive. I don't know what the odds are of surviving this type of incident, but they must be extremely small. And you want to complain about your damn laptop and keys? On the one hand, I want to try and put myself in their situation. I'm sure it wasn't a cakewalk, having to go through that. And as an attorney who does not work at a big law firm representing big insurance companies, I may one day have someone call me with the same type of case. On the other hand, how about just putting this in the category of suck it up? (A.K.A., sh** happens.) These were migratory birds, it was a fluke, unavoidable incident, and if your kids start having nightmares about it, well, instead of going to a $350 an hour shrink why don't you just be a parent instead? And who exactly is liable for this? The airline? The airport? The City of New York? Buy yourself some new shoes, hug your children a little tighter, count your blessings, and get on with your life. Very well put, sir. oldogy

July 14, 2009 *CHATTANOOGA AREA* Restaurant Meet Thread
oldogy replied to TGO David's topic in Events and Gatherings
If y'all decide to get together somewhere on the north side fairly close to I-75 I might make it down from the Sweetwater area. Pretty far hike for an old guy. You need to discuss too, are wives encouraged? oldogy
