My thoughts are that since the female of the species is where the following generation comes from, in many cases it is just wrong to reduce those numbers. One old tom will service many hens so they are fair game. But you know that, OS:). And like someone else pointed out, the hens are nesting this time of year. And you are right, that old tom is going to be tougher than a nice young hen. I can attest to that. Just like that old trophy buck is going to be tougher than that two YO spike. You knew that too. Same with antlered and antler less deer, when the herd needs thinning you kill off some doe. Side story: A few years back I had the privilege of accompanying a PA wildlife officer on a field trip into a friend's private property. The deer population was getting way out of hand, trees and most foliage eaten as high as the deer could reach. My friend knew, the wildlife officer knew, we all knew that the herd should be thinned but the WO could not get his superiors to allow the thinning of the herd by having open season on doe in that area. So I would guess that game laws/regulations do work sometimes. Shucks, there I go rambling again.........raining out so nothing else to do.......too wet :poop:to shoot my new Glock. oldogy

Sorry, did not have any intent to slander. I have good friends and relatives from rural upstate NY. I'll refine my statement to big cities in general. oldogy

What's the weather like in your neck of the woods?
oldogy replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in General Chat
A bit of a shower in Monroe Co early this am. Most of the morning was beautiful. It is clouding up now at 11:30 and the big black dog is telling me there is a storm in the distance. I know, you asked about west TN. oldogy -
Shades of Kitty Genovese 1964. Something about those folks in NY. oldogy

Yep, that is what makes these old guns interesting, speculation as to where all those scars might have come from. oldogy

Straight and to the point. Excellent! Too bad you're so far or I would put you onto a good independent who is not afraid of guns. In fact, she was even receptive to my bringing a firearm into the office to see if she could help my aging eyes get a better sight picture. oldogy

Look at Ruger LCR. Similar to the J frames. My wife did not like the J frame, trigger and recoil, so we got her a LCR. She tolerates the recoil, likes the trigger much better. A set of CT laser grips made her like the LCR even more. And now she wants to shoot more:cool:and carry more:cool: oldogy

If it is legal answers your brother and his co workers are seeking let them hire an attorney who knows what the laws are and what his rights are. I know you did not ask for opinions but consider this. Your brother was hired three years ago. The economy was doing well and companies were mostly doing well. The company had a business plan. Along comes this recession and along comes the current administration with the economic policies that have all businesses wondering what is going to happen. In short, their business plan fell apart. Many businesses, mine included, are operating under 'crisis mode' just to keep doors open and people paid. So my advice, I know you did not ask, is until your brother gets an accurate picture of the company's finances, and he may never, hire an attorney and keep his mouth shut. Would he rather be working without a raise or would he rather be looking for a job? JMO only oldogy

I have been to races in the motorhome and gone into infield parking / camping where the track people came inside the motorhome and looked for non ticketed passengers. They could have cared less about what else may have been in there, they were looking for people and animals. I doubt if you have those concerns parking outside the track even though you may be on racetrack property. Conceal well / hide well, shut up, do nothing to draw attention. I would never suggest you do anything illegal. oldogy Two tracks were Daytona and Sebring

My guess is that even the most passive sheep that would see a glimpse of a gun under a suit or sport coat would think, undercover cop and not go completely ballistic. That is if you looked the part, clean cut and business like. Looks are everything. If they ask, tell them you are legal, explain why and get on with your life. I am not even going to comment on the badge part. oldogy BTW, welcome to TGO

At point blank range such as we are discussing here, the 22 is quite lethal on all but the largest animal. My granddad used the 22 to kill many hogs and cattle.....point blank between the eyes. oldogy

About thirty years ago, Fl resident, I severely injured a dog. It was way out in the country, slowed down, the damn dog crossed the road, I thought I was safe and then then he came right back into the road but I had not slowed enough. The poor critter laid there looking up at me, blood running from his mouth and his rear quarters mangled. No permit, remember, this was thirty years ago but I had the gun under the front seat. One of the hardest things I've ever done as an animal lover. Played on my mind for a long time. In my mind there would be the exception to put the animal out of its misery, politically correct and to the letter of the law or not. Same scenareo today would meet with the same action. A gun is a tool. oldogy

Sounds like a good plan to me. My wife has shot revolver for years when I shoot and has enjoyed it. When she got serious about carrying and getting her HCP she told me she understood why I had been adamant about certain things so a good third party instructor is in order. Any of the better electronic muff type hearing protection should work. May be the GD should start out with grandma's revolver. Can she handle the slide comfortably in a semi auto? Thirteen YO granddaughter and grandma left this morning on a road trip. Granddaughter knows that grandma is licensed to legally carry and why she does. Interesting conversation. Stay safe, oldogy

Good thing we won the war or we would not be having these conversations. I feel for that poor guy......and his wife......and all law abiding Brits......Truely sad. oldogy

I talked the wife into stopping at the one in MI quite a few years back. She reluctantly agreed and we spent an hour or so looking the place over. We stayed nearby that night and had several conversations about what we had seen at Cabelas. Next morning after breakfast she suggested that we go back to Cabelas as she had enjoyed it and there were some things she wanted to see a second time. oldogy

No real first person experience but the firearm carry into Canada is a frequent subject on motorhome forums. Most of us carry within our motorhomes and when in a "sheep state" we store securely, isolate and store ammunition separate from the firearm and drive on through making sure we do not spend any money in said "sheep state." Canada is a different world altogether with handguns, worse than a "sheep state." Not worth the trouble. oldogy

I can not answer your question specifically about the food grade barrels but I use plain old garbage cans. Edit: Perhaps, I did not read enough out of your question. Mine are for collecting water for the garden, not potable water. oldogy

Problem is, he is we're stuck with him a few more years. Perhaps a constant barrage of letters and calls would educate him. Be mindful, we could do much worse. I have him on speed dial. oldogy

The sublessor has possession of the property for another six years. We, the sublesee, would like to lease the property for two years with an option to lease beyond the initial two years. The sublessor wants a two year lease with "no lease renewal option." Is this a common procedure? We can not get with our attorney 'till late next week. thanks, oldogy

Yeah, some of those OH LEOs were ruthless in places at times. I had a friend who got a ticket on I-71 for just a few miles over while driving his motorhome. I think the road signs said that all vehicles over so many lbs empty were restricted to 55 and his diesel pusher with towed was way over that. BTW, I-75 and I-71 no longer have the dual speed limit signs, at least around the Cincinnati area when I was there last week. oldogy

Like the title says. I do believe I am eligible. Thinking about looking into it farther. oldogy
