It is not so much age as it is about maturity. 1. Can and do they follow directions? Always? 2. Are they easily distracted or can they stay focused on the task? 3. Have the basics of firearm safety been taught before going to the point of live fire? Have fun. It is a great experience teaching a child to handle a firearm. oldogy

Someone with a worn out Camero and a rolled over Blazer. Take two, make one. Yeah, I've seen several similar abortions. oldogy

You need 4x4, good ground clearance rough tires and locking differentials if you're serious about off road. oldogy

Keep the Explorer on pavement and go buy a $5000. Jeep if you want to go off road. Spend the money on the upgrades for the Jeep for a real off road experience. For around $10000. you should be able to find a somewhat built Jeep.oldogy

Up at 06:30. Took a short walk with the big black dog. Shared a pot of coffee with the wife. Picked a couple tomatoes and fixed breakfast. Ummmmmmmmmm, good. Nothing better than fresh 'maters for breakfast along with scramble eggs. Went to Fenders antique tractor show. Went to our favorite pizza place and ate pizza. Came home and finished pulling the engine off one of my antique tractors. Took a much needed shower. A long fun day even though I did not fire a gun.............carried one though. oldogy

Look at the DeSantis "gunhide" I believe they call it. Sticky enough to where it will fit IWB or under the belt and stay put. NO straps or hooks. I have one for the small revolver but my 442 carries better in the DeSantis holster designed for the small automatic. Less than $20. oldogy

Can I bring an ex-felon to the gun range?
oldogy replied to analog_kidd's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Lets see, DD for always constantly getting in fights. Non-violent:tinfoil: This exactly the type person who does not need any kind of firearm in his posesion let alone a HCP. Like someone else mentioned, it takes a real FU to get a DD, or at least when I was in it did. Maybe the new military is different. oldogy -
Anybody been seeing any bucks with antlers yet?
oldogy replied to roverboy's topic in Hunting and Fishing
I have a group of four coming into my place every day or so here in E. TN. The biggest is going to have a very nice spread rack when it develops and he gets it polished. I think he is the 8 pt that was around here last year. The other three are small, one only going to be a spike or button. oldogy -

Got my plans in action. Celebrating freedom. Ribs smokin' (genuine hickory wood smoke) on the grill, drinking cold sweet ice tea, just put the fixings on for another gallon of tea, picked a peck of beans and a few tomatoes, checking that all is well on TGO, heading out to pick a couple dozen "roastin'" ears and check the grill. The son and granddaughter due in a while. Life is good. oldogy

Can you get in trouble if you forget your HCP at home?
oldogy replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Depending on the where and why of the need to produce the HCP I would think it could get unpleasant. If I were out and about and realized I did not have my HCP I would separate the firearm and ammo and place each in a separate area of the vehicle. But that is me. oldogy -
Could this be true the NRA plans to endorse Reid In Nevada

$61 million gun range..........Must have air conditioned shooting stations. How would you spend that much on a range? I guess it is easy when you're spending someone elses money. oldogy -
Am I the only one old enough to have had real cap guns? The kind that I wore hanging way down on my hip :cool:in that quick draw holster and fired rolls of caps one at a time. The rolls of caps that I placed on a flat rock or other hard object and hit the whole roll with a hammer. Now those were exciting times. oldogy

One round failure does not sound like a trend. I've not shot that much but my AR has had no failures with it. oldogy

It is the time of year when we eat mainly from the garden. Fresh silver queen, red ripe tomatoes, summer squash, baked taters and a slice of ham. Everything but the ham fresh from garden to table. ......UMMMMMMMMMMMM, good. oldogy

Smith J frame or the LCR, both are good. Each has advantages as stated above. Stock grips and CT grips on the LCR cover the backstrap to top of the grip and I believe this reduces the harsh recoil that you feel. I tried the Hogue grips on the J frame and they did reduce the harsh recoil but have since removed the Hogues, too big. I think I will try CT on the J frame. IMO the out of box trigger on the LCR is nicer. Neither gun is a range gun but they sure are easy to conceal. oldogy

One can never have too many hand guns. :DYou will like the LCR. oldogy

Can anyone tell me what this wedding band is worth?
oldogy replied to strickj's topic in General Chat
I doubt if anyone can give you an accurate value without the weight. It appears to be a used, worn piece of 14k scrap gold. Take it to a couple scrap gold buying jewlers and see what they offer. Double what they offer and that may be a reasonable place to start as an asking price. And for what it is worth, a jewler can make it look like new. oldogy -
Welcome to the retired club. You'll soon wonder how you found time to work. And with the current bunch of socialist leaning trash running the government you would probably be working for nothing. oldogy

I am speaking from experience with towing trailers. I've not seen electric brakes on a dolly but can't believe they would use any different hardware technology. I would call the manufacturer of the dolly and verify what works or see what they recommend. If it is industry standard technology you have many choices. oldogy From the Tekonsh Site: There are four basic styles of brake controllers. The first style is a timing activated brake controller. This control works with your brake switch to activate the trailer brakes at a predetermined amperage output. It can be mounted from anywhere and generally will be used for a short hauls, or a low weight capacity trailer. Some versions come with digital display and direct plug in capabilities. The second style of brake controller is inertia activated. These brake controls function the same as the timing activated with the exception of a pendulum sensor. With this style of brake controller the pendulum senses the inertia of the vehicle deceleration and proportionally stops the vehicle at the same rate. These brake controls have to be mounted to a certain degree and perform the best in areas without many inclines and declines. Some models come with digital displays and direct plug in. The third style is proportional activated. Completely redesigned from any previous brake controls, the proportional units are fitted with accelerometers that measure the g-force of the vehicle stopping. With swift reaction times and the smoothest capable stopping, these brake controls can handle any trailer in any situation. These brake controllers can come equipped with digital displays, diagnostics, direct plug in, and self adjustment. The forth and newest style is the hydraulic over electric controls. Mini computers that convert hydraulic and brake pedal pressure into electrical current. These controls will be equipped to handle any condition.

I run the Tekonsha Voyager on my F150. I had previously run it on my F350. Both trucks had the factory tow package and the controller was plug, adjust and play. Very simple to install, very simple to adjust. My son has three SOB controllers, picked up at Tractor Supply, (three different vehicles) and they work good also. My guess is that any of them built today are pretty decent.
