  1. The north side of Cleveland is starting to get some ice sickles here and there. Cleveland likes to defy the laws of nature though.... 29* and still liquid water. My kids are having a "where's the snow?" fit, lol
  2. This was $399 an hour ago. http://www.ammunitionsupplycompany.com/Federal-Lake-City-5-56-NATO-XM855-Ammo-p/xm855c.htm
  3. The temp just hit 33* in Cleveland, and it started raining :( 1* colder, and the town would be shutdown for a couple days
  4. Yesterday, the weather man got my kids all fired up for a big snow today. Then, last night, changed the tune to ice and freezing rain. Now, it's looking like it will possibly warm up just enough here north of Chattanooga to rain all day. I enjoy our mild winters as much as anybody, but I was hoping for one big snow this year. So, Cleveland is still dry ATM
  5. I think a 44 lever gun is about perfect for the type of cover you describe. If you shoot the iron sights well, I would just stick with them. If you want a scope, the scout scope is a good suggestion. A fixed 4power or a 3-9x40 would also work. I haven't taken a deer with 44mag yet, but I have a revolver that a carry to the tree stand on occasion.
  6. Good tips. Berry bushes are also a good idea. Hopefully I can get some trees in the ground soon
  7. I'm looking forward to turkey hunting this year. Last year I planted a buckwheat field, and the turkeys showed up and ate all the seeds before season opener :( This year, maybe I should sow the same seed a little bit later ;)
  8. Congrats! I've been eyeing one of those for a while. They seem like nice little guns and get good reviews. I'll have one someday if the EBR disease ever loosens it's grasp :)
  9. That patina adds to the value :)
  10. Same here. I have put off building a long range rifle because I didn't know where I would shoot it.
  11. Congrats! I need to venture into the realm of the 1911 someday soon. Yours looks nice. How do you like the the Alien Gear holster?
  12. Wow, nice looking place. Do the long range bays get crowded?
  13. The goose season would have been open during that time, also. It's vital that any waterfowl hunter knows what he's shooting at before pulling the trigger, and mistaken identity gets no sympathy from me; but you're right... good chance it wasn't intentional. Such a magnificent bird.
  14. I thought about chasing some coyotes tomorrow that like to terrorize the deer population. Problem is... 12:40am, and I'm still up. Sleeping in on a cold Saturday is fun too! :) Maybe I'll hunt them tomorrow evening...
  15. Oh, just "a green leafy substance" they say
  16. Wow, looks like tons of information and a great resource. Thanks
  17. Ya know, I should have been more concerned about RF exposure than I was. Thanks, you have a good point. I actually have that mount that you linked to. I was thinking about using it with an "L" bracket on the side of the toolbox. I'm re-evaluating the location, though. Just don't know if I can bring myself to drill a hole in the top of the cab though. Is there a different type antenna that would be safer to mount on the toolbox?
  18. I am trying to figure out a good mobile antenna location on my truck. It's a Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab with an aluminum toolbox in the bed. I'd really like to mount it on the forward, driver's side of the tool box (between the cab and bed), but that doesn't seem like I'll have any ground plane at all. I would mount it on a bracket that would be mounted to the front of toolbox. Would I be killing my reception/transmission like this with no flat metal area under the antenna and right next to the rear of the cab? Here is my antenna (nothing special): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003H3DTGE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Edit: It would be similar to this random picture I found on Google but with the antenna mounted on the front side of toolbox between the cab and bed. (My toolbox is a gull-wing style that opens from the sides and is hinged in the middle)
  19. Hey, wait a minute. Are brass knuckles still illegal??
  20. Good to know. I'll definitely have to plant some pears. I still need to do research on which variety. Did you notice if they caused any damage to the tree?
  21. I will be praying
  22. Throw in some powder and a bullet, and he can really shoot the bird
  23. Don't know if the cutoff is exactly at midnight
  24. I didn't get around to putting any decent food plots out last year, and most of the land I hunt is heavily wooded anyway. This year I started thinking about a different approach to "food plots". What I'm considering is planting some apple and/or pear trees near each stand. I know how deer react to apple trees, but what about pears? I hear they are easier to grow and more drought / insect tolerant. Also, if I plant some bigger trees by spring, is there any chance they will be producing at all this year? I stink at growing stuff Fruit trees near the stand... Good / bad idea??
