I have a question for everyone.
Wingshooter replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Survival and Preparedness
I need to refill my propane cylinders. I usually keep 3 of the exchange-type tanks full for the grill, camping stove, lantern or heater as a backup source. We've done a lot of grilling out this summer, and I need to exchange my tanks for full ones. Especially before winter arrives. I keep several of the small bottles on hand too, but those are secondary to the tanks if I am still at the house. I would be hesitant to use the grill during a crisis though, because the hungries might be attracted to the smell. The camping stove would be great for cooking beans, etc. though. EDIT: I would also add that I am lacking organization. I have a bunch of stuff and supplies, but It's not organized very well. Plus, if I am away from home, my wife and kids may not be able to utilize everything we have. I need to organize gear and train the family better. -
Fed Appeals Court Says Illegal Aliens Have 2A Rights
Wingshooter replied to gun sane's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Illegal aliens have no right to be in this country, hence the word "ILLEGAL". The Constitution governs the peolple here Legally. The Constitution and the Fed are supposed to protect us from the illegals not arm them within our borders. I agree that any and everyone in the world should be able to defend themselves, but what does that have to do with the 2A that exists for the citizens of the USA? You want the benefits of the USA's constitution and 2A, then go through the proper channels of LEGAL immigration. This country's legal system and government is going insane. -
Welcome! I've never hunted dove here, but the turkey hunting can be great.

Carrying a rifle on a boat?
Wingshooter replied to 10-Ring's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
That's a good point. I have a fishing boat that would never be considered a residence, but my other boat has a large cabin. I could stay on it for multiple nights, and I would definately want a long gun on board. This is part of the reason I built my 300BO pistol. Now what about a deck-mounted turret... too much? :) -
I have some full length, never been shot Gold Tip shafts that I have had for 5 or 6 years. I was planning on cutting them down, cresting, fletching, nocking and installing iserts this year. Will age cause fatigue that will lead to failure? I've never thought about the possibility of them getting brittle with age until now... time for me to start Googling I guess.

I ordered a couple of escape cards. I couldn't get my ipad to select the link to order the survival card. I'll try it from my PC browser. Cool site

Maybe they include the family relations and tensions just to show how irrelevant their current problems will become  I hope the next episode picks up. I'd like to see them show some true preppers kicking their plan into action -
A BBQ restaurant and Waffle House on every corner. Permiate the air with the smell of ribs and bacon!

Thanks. I'll probably end up going to arkansas again this year. We always have a ton of fun there, but my schedule's tighter this year. So, is it even possible to just launch my own boat on Reelfoot and hunt the public areas? Or is it just too crowded with all the clubs, blinds, boats, etc?

I finally watched and liked it. I agree it's a slow start. I think they are trying to establish the feeling of boring, everyday life dramas faced by many American families. As the disease spreads, the everyday problems will pale in comparison to the new problem of just staying alive. Slow start, but I think it's necessary to transition from "normal" to the breakdown of society. -

I had to DVR it. I'll watch it when I can. -
That's actually what I had in mind if I don't draw a WMA hunt. I just want to go somewhere with more ducks than east TN has to offer, lol. I had thought about taking my duck boat to the Reelfoot area, but I don't want to go somewhere that's elbow-to-elbow hunters either.

Soon... -
I trim my holly and boxwood shurbs when they get shabby (about this time of year). In fact, I may do mine today. I've done that for 10 years at this house and they are still healthy. Never lost one. I turned the tips of a boxwood brown once, but that was because I did some EXTREME cutbacks on it in mid-summer. If youre only taking off new growth on green shrubs, it should be fine. For crepe myrtles, i wait until about February before they bloom Edit: I'll trim unwanted new growth (suckers) or dead limbs out of crepes throughout the summer. Just know that there will be no blooms this year where you trim.

Thanks. I've never navigated the MS river. I would use 16' War Eagle with blind but also have a 17' Boston Whaler. I'd much rather hunt fields or flooded timber, though. I have been looking for an affordable lease for 4-5 years out there. I passed on purchasing 40 acres of flooded duck timber at a great price a few years ago, and I've been kicking myself ever since  Purchase or lease is ultimately what I want. I could look at booking a guide. We've done that before, but we get more satisfaction out of doing our own thing. It's just going to be me, my dad, my brother and my son. In years past, we usually go to Arkansas for a few days. It would be easier this year for us to find something closer in TN. How about Kentucky Lake... is it better for a DIY duck hunt or about the same as Reelfoot?
-
I'll check them out. I've applied for Big Sandy before but not Dover or Haynes.
-
Thanks, I'll look at the islands. I have a 16' with a pop up blind that could handle the miss.
-
I'll give it a shot, thanks.

Thanks. I'm wanting to use my own boat and equip. Are the ducks hard to find on reelfoot or just too many people?
-
I'm looking for some info on hunting ducks on the west side because i just get frustrated hunting them here on the east. We've hunted them in Arkansas a few seasons, but I'd like to stay in Tn if it's just as good (maybe better). I can't really get out there to do much scouting, and I'm just not sure of where to focus... which rivers, lakes, find a lease, etc. I submit for a blind drawing every year but never get one in the areas I'm after. I have a duck boat, so that opens up options. Are there places to go out there that are not loaded with more hunters than ducks that I don't have to win a drawing? How crowded is Kentucky and Reelfoot lakes? Is the Mississippi river the best option or smaller rivers? I'm not expecting anyone to give away their favorite spot or anything like that of course, just some general tips and suggestions. Thanks
