  1. If you can't get them up there, I'll sub in! Awesome caribou. Congrats! I need to do an Alaska hunt one of these years.
  2. For me it depends on the setup. I'll shoot standing or sitting. The way you described it, I probably would have done the same as you did. Some deer seem to have better situational awareness than others. It sounds like this doe had her radar on.
  3. Oh wow. I hope and pray he makes a full recovery. Glad he is still alive. It's amazing what a 15' fall can do. I always wear my safety vest and teach my kids the same. I also encourage my friends to do the same. I just installed safety lines with prusik knots on my fixed stands that allows us to easily stay conmected on the way up and down. I used to skimp or go cheap on this stuff or not always used it, but the last few years I am adamant about it. Thanks for sharing the reminder.
  4. No thanks. The last thing I need is an IRS type agency in charge of my healthcare. "Death panels", rationing, long waits, red tape and an even bigger government WOULD be a reality.
  5. Yep. "Single-payer" healthcare or bust. Hillary, pelosi and Reid will get their wish if she wins.
  6. I like the white I keep my screen pretty dim always though
  7. I honestly don't give a rat's behind about the different flavors of muslim. Terrorist from the middle east works for me.
  8. Still looks middle-eastern to me
  9. Cool. Send them southeast. We have the ladies
  10. I was hot too especially when the breeze stopped. I also forgot the Thermacell of all things.
  11. That climber is great! I think I lost mine though... my son (13) finally showed some interest and went with me this evening. He used my Viper SD and I used an older steel one similar to it. He absolutely loved it and said he wants to go all the time... then he asked if he could use that climber because it was so much fun and comfortable. Of course I said "sure". I'll gladly get another Viper SD or use the heavy one if he'll start going with me. We saw a doe and fawn in the plowed up power line food plot, so he got a dose of adrenalin. I let them walk because I don't like shooting mama with baby. I'm planning to seed that plot tomorrow before it rains monday, so it should be a great spot.
  12. I'm sitting in the stand now. Nice little breeze so it's not too bad. The ants in this tree are GIANT. I hope they don't decide to carry my off.
  13. Wow, I'm at the Cascades Station and mall area a lot. That guy definitely looks mid-eastern to me. As soon as I saw that pic, I was reminded of this one taken back in 2001. He doesn't look any more hispanic than the 9/11 hijacker did.
  14. Good luck tomorrow! I plan to hit the woods for an afternoon hunt. It will be hotter then, but that's when I can go. I have more stand sites this year than last. Almost too many places 'cause I'm not sure which I want to hunt first. No doubt the mack-daddy will be on the trail cam of the stand I'm not in, lol. I'm really excited about the season. I have some small food plots ready to sow, but I need some rain before I put my seed out. I had them planted back in the spring, but the drought torched them. I will be using my trusty Martin Firecat TR1 with GoldTip arrows for now. Funny thing, I was looking at a used Switchback XT the other day. I'm still thinking about getting it for a second bow (or new primary). I have read that the Switchback is still one of the best hunting bows Matthews ever made. Last year I lost most of the archery season because I broke a cable on my Martin, so I'd like to have 2 good bows ready to hunt. You're going to love that Viper SD. That's what I have, and I can sit in that all day. Good luck!
  15. Wow @SWJewellTN, that's like 20mm!!! I just have one... the 20, but I love it. I've been running Underwood 200gr HC through it. It's more accurate than I am and it hits hard. I put Ameriglo Spartan Operator sights on it. I've been very happy.
  16. Lots of creepy clowns. Have you seen that one with the kooky eyes, lol
  17. I was scouting for deer a couple years ago when a big Shepherd mix, a hound dog and a scruffy mutt came busting through the woods. The Shepherd type came right up to me in a direct line. I extended a hand, he smelled it and moved on. I guess I stunk or maybe he saw the .44 mag in my other hand The hound was doing what hounds do with his nose to the ground and the mutt seemed oblivious. The shepherd and his actions made me a little nervous at first, but dogs don't scare me that much overall. I was chased by a mad holstein bull once in an open pasture. That freaked me out. Llamas scare me too.
  18. Creepy
  19. So sorry for your loss. Your family is in our prayers.
  20. The Beretta 1301 is what I would get if I wanted the name or didn't want to make any modifications. I shoot a Stoeger M3000 that I got new for $469. I added a Nordic tube, a Benelli bolt handle, and opened up the loading port. I couldn't be happier. A friend of mine has the 1301. I've used it some. It's super nice, but I do just as well with my Stoeger. The Stoeger actually shoulders a little better for me, and it's functioned 100% since I've had it. Not one single malfunction with multiple 3gun shoots under it's belt.
  21. I filled the truck this am before I knew about this. I just filled up the Yukon and my daughter's car. The 4wheelers' are full of non-ethanol for some deer stand maintenance tomorrow morning Hope it doesn't last and the prices cone back down soon.
  22. Here is what you need. This is where I learned it, and I recommend printing out all chapters and puting in a notebook for future reference (there are 5 chapters). That's what I did. Great info and works well. http://www.huntersfriend.com/archery-help/hunting-target-arrows-selection-guide-chapter-1.html

  24. I'll have to dig up some of my links to some good resources. There's lots of good info on the web. I really enjoy building my own arrows. It gives even more satisfaction to shooting my bow. Fletching an arrow is not hard, but it might take a little trial and error to get exactly what you want. The balance, spin, accuracy and speed of your arrow can all be affected or improved by the fletchings. First, decide what type you want. I like feathers because they are forgiving when they get ruffed up a bit, they look cool and I like the traditional aspect. Plus they fly really good with my setup. They are easier to damage and probably a little bit slower though. Most folks propably use vanes these days, though. I have a Bitzenburger jig, but there are a lot of different options out there. You can set the jig to give your fletching a straight or helical pattern. You can also decide how far from the nock to set the fletchings to change the arrow's center of gravity. They glue on easily. I also wrap my arrow to give it the look I want. This also has the benefit of keeping the shaft free of glue should you decide to change your fletchings. They also make the heat shrink type that you slip on and dip in hot water to shrink it on the shaft. There are a lot of good arrow building products out there now. I will try to find and post the links to what I used to get started.
