So speaking of critters anyone ever successfully plant sunflower seeds and defend them from squirrels and birds.

I planted around 20 sunflower seeds a couple weeks ago.  Almost all were eaten when they sprouted or dug up.
I am thinking of growing them indoors in peat pots and planting when they are larger seedlings.

It’s amazing the animals that sunflowers attract. I’m thinking about planting a large area of sunflowers for deer to eat. I’ve never tried it before, but I know they love them

  2. For a range gun, 3gun, plinking or even home defense that doesn't break the bank, the Sig Romeo5 is hard to beat. It’s just a simple red dot that comes on when you pick it up.

I also have and really like the Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24. Gives you a 1 power red dot or up to 4x magnification. Great optic for an AR

Tore my meniscus and fractured the head of my tibia running more than 10 years ago. I had to wait for the fracture to heal up before I could contemplate the meniscus repair. Once I had waited the knee felt ok'ish enough that I put of surgery. It continually got worse though and it began to limit me in my daily activities. I still tried to avoid surgery with about 8 weeks of physical therapy. Of course that did not help since meniscus do not repair themselves so I finally had the surgery. It was instantaneously better.

Very little pain after surgery. I had it done on a Wednesday and was in physical therapy again that Friday. I was on crutches for 7 days but they were slowly getting be back bearing some weight through that week. By the following Wednesday I was off crutches, walking 1+ miles a day, and hitting physical therapy 3 times a week. I could have gone back to running inside of a month if I had wanted to.

    My take away points;
Do as much physical therapy (strengthen and stretch the knee supporting muscle structure including your hip) as you can before the surgery. I firmly believe it greatly reduces recovery time and complications.
Do as much physical therapy after surgery as you can. Same reasons as above.
Do not wait to have the surgery any longer than you have to. My biggest complications were lots, and lots, and lots of scar tissue that had to be removed from previously unaddressed injury. I was also compensating for the weakened knee causing misalignment and increased strain on other supporting muscle and structure. I should have done it as soon as my fracture healed.

I went to Vanderbilt Bone and Joint in Franklin. Surgery took a few hours and was outpatient. I was home in my own bed that afternoon. The surgeon that did my repair is no longer there at Vanderbilt but I still have good things to say about them in general. I have been back to a different doctor for a hand injury and they are very thorough and efficient.

    That’s great info. Thanks!

I have noticed that my other knee and shoulder have been hurting lately from favoring them to move around. I also pulled a muscle in my back from limping. That was when my knee hurt more. Knee feels much better now, but I am concerned if I put surgery off then I will reinjure it while in the woods or doing some other activity in the future.

I just want to get back to normal ops. I have a backpack elk hunt planned this fall. It sounds like with the surgery I should be able to hike and backpack...

ETA: Did they trim away your meniscus or stitch it? They would need to trim mine. I hate to “lose” body pieces lol

Messed my knee up last Nov., slight tear in the meniscus but no surgery, wore a brace for about 4 weeks, and it healed by itself per the xrays.  The Ortho doc said they normally don't do surgery except in extreme cases anymore, so your doc would prescribe the best route to go.  GL

I’m on the fence about the surgery. It feels almost normal now (slight pain with stairs, slightly swollen and a little stiff). Doc says I have a flap that is flipped up and can cause wear and tear on the joint. I’m not a fan of surgery unless absolutely necessary tho

I had the surgery done about 10 years ago. I think it was just a couple of little cuts made. Was back to work in a few days. I must have torn it a few years before and just put up with it. Waited till it kept me from sleeping and driving without pain till I did something about it. Never really bothered me while walking. It sure was nice being able to sleep again without the pain.
So far so good, I expect some day I’ll have to have a bionic knee put in.

I also think i tore it a few years ago, and it’s just now causing a bigger problem. Good to know you got right back to life and no pain. Thanks

Saw the ground and plants moving right in front of me today. I couldn’t believe it.
It was in one of the small raised beds I just started.

i took a rake and scraped the dirt where it was happening. It stopped but I didn’t find anything.

Later this afternoon I saw it again. Ground moving a tomato plant shaking. I stuck a small stick in the ground it stopped. Saw nothing a small earth worm came to the surface.

What is happening? Is it moles? Is my dirt possessed?

Do we have Mole Crickets in TN? I’ve seen those things come out of the ground around plants in FL before 😳 😱 I think they feed on plant roots, earthworms, etc.

They creep me out. Even google images of those things are hard to look at.

Had my left knee done back around 1994. No big deal. They did it Arthroscopic. Just a couple of very small cuts. Crutches for a couple of weeks, a cane for a couple of more, then a knee brace for about a month or two. Was off work maybe 6 weeks. haven't had any problems out of it since. 👍

The worst part was being stuck in the house for about a month. 🙄

Thanks. That’s good to know. I am hopeful that I will be able to use it back to full strength after it’s fixed. They will have to cut the torn flap off, so I don’t know how much meniscus I’ll lose.

  8. Well I have a torn meniscus in my knee 😧 Doc says I need surgery. Parrot beak, posterior horn.

Anyone else have this surgery (or recommend otherwise)? Knee feels a lot better now, but still not quite 100%. I can walk around much better now, but I have been mostly off my feet and ice pack for over a month. I really didn’t have a lot of pain. Had a lot of swelling and stiffness with a pulling sensation. It’s tolerable, but I don’t want to have it keep me from doing things I like to do either. This will be my first surgery or procedure.

Bad timing too because I was supposed to be leaving this weekend for a 10 day backpacking spot-and-stalk bear hunt in Idaho 😥

  9. I do not like The HD Voice or voLTE option. I always turn it off because it makes it harder to hear imo. Anyone else? I hope that doesn’t mean i have to turn it on now. Sheezh

Also, I hope this doesn’t kill my Cuddielink trail camera system 😱. I need to check it’s G-rating I guess. That would not be good

We must work for the same employer, I'm dealing with the same crap too..

edit: One of my workers first day on the job yesterday is out today due to getting his 2nd jab of phizer, probably 20yrs old.

Sorry your dealing with it too. It sucks.

Are you leaning towards a particular vax or dump the employer?

I chose the J&J because it wasn’t mRNA. As it was built on the same tech as the other vaccines I’ve been getting for decades, I felt reasonably safe with it. At least a lower risk than getting covid.

Thanks, that’s my thoughts also. I’m just now digging deeper into research about it. I do know someone that developed blood clots soon after getting it, so I have been taking a slow approach to it.

I just don’t like being forced to get it or lose my good job 😡 It should be my choice. However, I feel the biden admin will continue to mandate it in other areas of life besides my job 😡 😡

My significant other's doctor insisted on J&J. He didn't want her taking one of the mRNA shots with her auto immune stuff. I was just going along, but really appreciated the one and done part.

That’s good to know since my wife also has an auto immune thing. She hasn’t taken the jab either. Did you or your SO have any adverse reactions to it?

I just don’t like the idea of the mRNA and have always leaned towards j&j if I decided to get one at all. There was some earlier talk about graphene oxide in the J&J. Has that been proved wrong or is that really a thang?

Yes there is a considerable size difference between the 20 and the 29.  I feel I can conceal the 29 if I want to but with the 20 that was nearly impossible.  Of course the 20 is a little more pleasant to shoot but I don't think the 29 is hard to handle or too small.  The 29 is one of my absolute favorite Glocks.  That and the 19 are the two Glocks I will not sell.

I'd encourage you to grab one you will not be disappointed

Good info about the 29. The 20 has too much grip length and barrel for me to sit normally in a vehicle or conceal it. I feel like I’m trying to hide a fire extinguisher under my shirt lol. In the woods or on the trail, I like the full size.

Good to hear that you rank the 29 up there with the 19 because I think very highly of the 19 as well. I read somewhere that the 29 carries like a heavier 19. Do you find that to be the case also? What holster do you carry it in?

I need to go put my hands one one. I just have to be prepared for it to follow me home if I do lol

I can certainly relate to your situation, Wingshooter.

I too, have a farm and I own a G 20 as I like the 10mm round as well.  The G 20 works just fine for riding my horse and most things, but it is cumbersome on the tractor and in my truck as well.  I don't have a G29 but when I look at the specs I am not sure if you would gain very much in the way of size reduction. While the G 29 is about 1.25" shorter, it is actually a tad bit wider (1.38" vs 1.34" for the G 20).  For me, the issue was the width.

What I did was to go with the Springfield Armory XDs in a .45 caliber.  While not quite the power of a 10mm, it is still no slouch and I was able to get the width down to slightly under one inch.  It made a noticeable difference and I really like the sidearm.  I have over 1,500 rounds through it and it is very reliable.

    Good luck.

Sounds like we have similar issues with the 20. I love it but I almost have to sit sidewise when I jump in the ranger, tractor or truck lol. When I get on the horse, I almost feel obligated to strap on the single action 45LC though.

I will check out the XDs in 45. That a good suggestion. Thanks 👍

Well... if this is all about population control, we're going to have a lot of room to spread out in a couple of years.

(I say "We" because the J&J shot is proven to have 100% less government population control serum in it. 😉 )

Well my employer just adopted joe’s mandate. Guess I’m going to have to start shopping vaxes now. I have been holding off as long as I could to see what happens to the test subjects first 😀.  Now I’ll be one as well since I’m not in a position to lose my career. I have been leaning J&J, but if it’s 100% less government then I’m definitely sold!!

My doc recommended Moderna simply because of the higher “protection” percentage. I just want the one that’s least likely to jack me up. I do know a few people that have serious side effect from the shot.

What made you choose J&J ? I like that it’s not mRNA and only a single shot (I try to avoid needles in general 😱). Anything else to consider when choosing one of the 3?

Can’t believe I’m being forced to get this in America....
