  1. I like them on really cold days, too. It seems like they are great for the temperature extremes because you can make youself comfortable without spooking the deer. That's good advice about practicing from the blind. I learned that the hard way when I first started using one.
  2. Yes. I use a ground blind often. They are very effective. Usually I prefer a tree stand, but not always. I just have a cheap "Doghouse" blind from Walmart. It is "blacked-out" on the inside with shoot-through mesh windows. I have have literally had deer, horses, dogs, etc. walk within arms reach without a clue I was there. Sometimes I will use a ground blind in the hot early season because I can sit in there in shorts and a black T-shirt with a wet bandanna on my head - keeps you quite cool. Other times I use it because I can't find a good tree in an area I want to hunt. The improtant thing is that the blind has enough room for you to draw your bow without sticking out of the blind or bumping it. Does it have shoot-though mesh windows?
  3. i think we might have touched on this once before in another thread, but I can't remember the answer. What about during the archery only season on WMA's? The regs prohibit firearms during this season, but does my HCP provide an exemptin? As long as I am permitted to be on a WMA with proper license and bow in hand during the archery only season, can I carry an handgun for defense only since I have an HCP?

  9. I have about an 18 year old Browning. Old, big, heavy bow, but it still shoots great! I would like to get a newer one, but Obama caused me to spend my extra money on an AR and ammo. In fact, I still shoot aluminum arrows. My bow's all tuned up, so I have a hard time changing the setup. Well, I did put a new fiber optic sight on it, but that was a needed upgrade. There was a Matthews LX + full setup on Craigslist not too long ago for $200. I called too late, or I would have jumped all over that! I am looking forward to bow season. BTW, Some of the Dick's Sporting Goods have most of their last year LH models on clearance. Some that I saw were Diamonds (by Bowtech) and Martin
  10. I would try some different weighted field points (90gr, 100gr, 125gr) and see how/if it affects the flight of your arrow. The more mass on the end of the arrow, the more it will resist initial flight (object at rest, tends to stay at rest...) and will cause the arrow to "flex" more when the sting is released. That mass will also tend to stay in motion once it is in motion, so a heavier broadhead should be harder to stop (by the deer). Also, as Rightwinger said, a heavier broadhead weighs the arrow down and will slow it down. The size and weight of your flethings and arrow length are another consideration. Generally speaking, the balance point of the arrow should be 7%-10% (of the arrow length) forward of the actual center of the arrow. So, if you have a 30" arrow, it should balance about 3" (10%) forward of the middle. You can change the balance point by changing the weight of the broadhead. If the balance point is too far forward or too far aft, the arrow will not fly properly. A sharp 80 or 90gr broadhead is plenty to use for deer hunting, but you want what works best with your arrow (that may be 100gr or more depending on the stiffness/length of the arrow). That's why I would shoot (and balance) some cheap field points of different weights, and decide what is the best weight. Then I would choose a broadhead of matching weight. That's just the way I do it...

  13. I also use Muzzy 100's. I've never had a problem with them. The G5 broadheads are nice too, but I don't have any reason to switch from my Muzzy's.

  19. I have a Samsung I770 Saga. It is Windows Mobile 6.1, and there are other phones that use this operating system. It has the Windows products (Excel, Word, Internet Explorer, etc). I use Opera Mobile browser. You can select the option for it to display in "mobile view" or not and to be "recognized" as a PC or mobile phone. With these options selected, it truly is just like a PC web browser. A lot of the time, I am posting to this site from my phone, and it looks exactly like it does on my laptop (just smaller screen ). It supports Youtube, Flash videos, Java, etc... I use Verizon, and they have a fast 3G (soon to be 4G from what I understand) network. It is not as fast as my 10mb cable Internet at home, but it is fast enough to use. The iPhone is probably cooler from a music/video/gadets perspective, but I like my Windows Mobile 6.1 for browsing the web on the go.
