  1. I did the same thing and read it as "not" the first time. A little expectation bias I guess. That's a great email you got from them! I hope TWRA updates their website soon concerning this. It still says that you can't carry unless you are hunting legally with it. I sent them an email to ask.twra@tn.gov about the outdated info on the website and got this response:
  2. He hears, "Roody toot toot..."?
  3. Interesting. Never seen that done before...
  4. Wouldn't offend me. Although, they're more likely to say "that's so redneck", but I wouldn't care about that either.
  5. That dead one was violated! "Moooon River...."
  6. It's nice to know people with land. I need to meet some of those kinds of friends or at least find a lease. My goal is to be able to buy 100ac or so, but I can't do it yet. A good hunting lease will hold the land owner harmless, and should ease the fear of being sued. I would certainly sign such a lease, but I can't find any land not already leased or hunted. I am a member of a hunting club, but it is not as well managed as I would like. As far as the WMA's go, I don't mind hunting them during the bow season - sometimes I have the place to myself. Once gun season starts, I guess I will just hunt my club or bow hunt an archery only WMA. I don't like hunting WMA's during the gun season either, especially on opening week or the weekends.
  7. That chef did look gay... did you see the way he was standing? It's gay and queer all at the same time.
  8. Nice safe and collection! I need a safe. Is that a SS Ruger SBH .44mag on the top shelf with Hogue grips and a scope? If so, I have one setup just like that.
  9. That's not right. It sounds like you've done everything to make their job easier. Harassing legal hunters is against the law. Did you take it all the way to the Nashville office? That's a shame for you to loose something you enjoy because of that. If they are doing it to you, they are probably doing that to others as well. I don't know what else you could do other than feel threatened and call 911 while they are chasing you - get the cops involved and press charges. It would probably just be easier (and safer) to try a different WMA. Hunting public land has frustrated me all my life and in every state I have lived in. I have been trying to lease some property in TN for about 2 years, but I can't even find any to lease since Bowater stopped that program.
  10. That same thing frustrates me too. I duck hunt, but I deer hunt more. I have two WMA's close to me that close during th late duck season. One of them I can understand because it's pretty much a small island. I enjoy going there during the duck season. The other one has some fine deer habitat, and I don't know why it closes. A couple of years ago, I had just found a great spot for deer on this WMA right before it closed for the late duck season. That was frustrating when I realized that. As far as the PETA lovin' ATV's, that's ridiculous and illegal. That's not right that TWRA has not responded to hunter harassment. I'd keep calling until you get someone that will listen and address that problem. Otherwise, maybe try a couple of pre-planned ATV booby traps and a video camera - that would be great on YouTube! Are there any alternative entrances to the WMA? Maybe you could get in there without the ATV guys knowing it...
  11. To hunt deer on a WMA with a gun there are two ways to get licensed: Hunt & Fish Combo Type 001 ($28) + Annual Big Game Gun Type 009 ($28) + WMA Nonquota Big Game Tpe 094 ($21). If you went this route, and say you wanted to hunt during muzzleloader season. You would have to add Annual Muzzleloder Big Game Type 011 ($28), etc. or... Annual Sportsman Type 004 ($136). This would be cost effective if you plan to hunt multiple specicies, use different types of weapons and apply for quota hunts. It's all inclusive except for the Federal Duck Stamp. Some WMA's, such as 205 - Beaver Dam Creek in hickman Co. (Region II), allow big game hunting during the statewide seasons. You would have all the permits required to hunt deer during the statewide gun season in a WMA like that with the options listed above.
  12. Yeah, bumping that mag on something at the wrong time could cost you a deer.
  13. You have several good WMA's close to you and some big deer in that area. Do you bowhunt?
  14. I agree, you can get gypped in that regard. What stinks is how expensive it is to hunt deer and ducks on a certain WMA. $51 for the WMA Small Game / Waterfowl and $21 WMA Big Game. I guess that's why the Big Game permit is cheaper because you might get to use it less. Still pricey though, I think. That's why I just go for the $136 Sportsman's license - it includes all that crap. However, I understand that if you just want to hunt deer, the Sportsman's license may not be worth it.
  15. You could be right as far as I know, but I can't find any restriction to mag capacity in the regs. Where do you see that? The only restiction that I know of is 3 rounds when hunting migratory birds.
  16. Yeah, I bet they wish they had a trusty 870 with some 00 Buck!
  17. My wife went to the range with me when she was 7 or 8 months pregnant. That was about 10 years ago, and our child still has great (but selective ) hearing . I don't have any statistics to back up the risks, though. Sounds like a golden opportunity to get an AR with a suppressor
  18. Oh, I read the title and figured he ate some "Insane" hot wings from Zaxby's. That'll give ya a fiery end
  19. I thought they were already paying ACORN to do that kind of stuff.
  20. I just watched it again. At about 29 sec in the video, I think they really shot that guy farthest away by the tree! Either that, or he was falling down to avoid the bullet That's a bad day in the field. Shot all your ammo, got bit by your quary, missed everything but your hunting partner, and your lion got away.
  21. Lion attacks hunter, hunters shoot each other... more at 11.
  22. Yes, it is very common. In fact, some sates (like Ohio) only allow shotguns with slugs, muzzleloaders, bows or handguns - no rifles. I have probably killed more deer with a shotgun than any other type of weapon. Although, I usually prefer a rifle or bow. Here in TN during the gun season, I choose a weapon based on the terrain, hunting method and how far I have to carry it. If I am hunting from a tree stand on a field - I want a scoped rifle. If I am hunting from a ground blind in tight cover, I might want a handgun (4" bbl or greater) or carbine with open sights. If I am hunting from a stand in brush or tight cover, I might want a shotgun or carbine with open sights. If I have to hike over rough terrain to my stand then I usually want something light with a good shoulder sling. I am not sure what the effective range of a slug is, but I have taken them at better than 75yds with a 3" 12ga mag. I can get decent groups on paper @ 100yds, but that's about my limit for deer with my shotgun. Either the AK or the shotgun will bag a deer just fine with a shot to the vitals. Just hunt more than once, and try both

I have a USPc .40 LEM, double action only with no safety lever or decocker. It's a great firearm - no complaints and zero malfunction to date. It's not the smallest gun out there, but I can conceal it very easily. I can carry it IWB with a pair of shorts and an untucked shirt without anyone knowing it.
  24. I duck hunt a couple of the WMA's that are closed to deer hunting during the late duck season. That's when you see all the deer... Several of the WMA's are managed primarily for waterfowl and wetlands.
  25. Yeah, I imagine a .50 cal would produce instant squirrel gravy.
