  1. Sounds like you needed a boat
  2. The last time I had it was when I replaced some stringers and refinished the bottom of a flat bottom fiberglass boat. I sanded that sucker like an idiot in shorts and a T-shirt (intermittant mask). The boat turned out great! I learned another lesson!
  3. I'm doing so much better than I was. I did take a huge scratching fit about an hour ago, but the prescription cream came to the rescue. There's no question that these meds have saved me many days and nights of suffering. Now the big question is how long will it take me to get amnesia and repeat this stupidity again? I am going to buy a case of OFF, so I don't get caught without it in the summertime woods again.
  4. Vinegar for fiberglass itch... there was a time when I could have used that info, lol. I'll have to remember that.
  5. You don't ever want them. They're miserable. I seem to be immune to the various poison plants too, but chiggers, ticks and mesquites seem to seek me out for some reason.
  6. I sat in a hot bath twice with some bleach, and that did help. I showered it off following the bath instead of letting it dry on my skin though. I'll remember to let it dry if I'm ever unfortunate enough to have a "next time".
  7. Well, so far with this experience, I've been sitting in hot baths and used some nail polish. I'd have to draw the line if you'd have suggested pantyhose, lol.
  8. Something to look into
  9. And thank God for that because I would have gone in after 'em by now and had my legs all bandaged up.
  10. Felt good for a few minutes then nothing. I just tried it on one ankle. It probably protected it from my scratching fingers a little though. After some reading, I learned that they don't bury in the skin like people used to think. Just bite and move on like @Shorty said. The good news is the prescription cream is great! Slight itching, but I can at least go to work with it now without diggin' at my legs and worse all day
  11. Yes, once I start scratching I can't stop. Then it's worse. I was tempted to go for the wire brush at one point like @gregintenn mentioned above. I'll try the tight clothing.
  12. I'm sure it's possible that the little bugs I saw were not necessarily the bugs that feasted on me. The bites are definately chigger bites though. Wow, they tore me up! I'm pretty sure I know the stretch of weeds on my land that may be their infestation. I may have to trim those weeds with one of these puppies: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Lincoln-Electric-Inferno-Propane-Torch-Kit-KH825-01/100341111
  13. Super tiny and red. Couldn't really see individual ones but like a cloud of multiples... nearly microscopic bug. Didn't see any "attached" afterwards like a tick. Hope they weren't little ticks! Doctor hooked me up with some meds! Steriod and 2 cremes. Feels much better already. Still a little itch but not miserable like before
  14. All good advice, thanks. I think I will go to the doc and try to get quicker relief. Maybe stop and pickup some Cortizone10 until I can get there. I came home and took a shower right away, but I guess the damage was done. I actually noticed them first when I got back in the truck. Looked like pepper on my leg they were so thick. My own fault for entering the TN woods this time of year without a proper application of deet. The itching is better where I scratched them till they bled, but I've got them from my toes to my armpits (and EVERYWHERE in between ) Devil bugs!
  15. The gasoline and paint thinner was a joke, but the bleach I tried
  16. Woke up with a little relief this morning, although wearing a few little dots of nail polish and toothpaste (thanks guys ). I tried a little here and there to see if it made any difference. It did for about 10 mins, then right back to the itch. The thing that seemed to help the most was to run a hot bath and mix about a cup of bleach, and then I just sat in it. Most of the bumps are on my legs, so I didn't have to get too deep in it. Then I took a shower to rinse off. It seemed to dry the bumps a little and slow down the itch. My wife also gave me some Tea Tree oil to try on them. This seemed to help the most. I woke up about 4 times through the night to re-apply, but it helped. @gregintenn the ones where I scratched the tops off are doing better than the others. Misery!!!
  17. Stupid me... about every 5-7 years I forget what it's like to wade through a patch of weeds where these demon bugs lust for my flesh, and I got slack on spraying with Deet. I hate them! I itch bad. They even crept into my nether regions. Curse them. What's your favorite way to soothe the fire? Soak in some bleach, gasoline, paint thinner? I'll try anything... Seriously, what works for you? Sarna lotion and ChiggAway isn't cutting it right now.
  18. I handload my other 30-06's. What's the best load to duplicate M2 ball?
  19. That was another purchase that I never got around to. That was a good deal... bummer that it's gone.
  20. I also have a Mosin sitting next to the Garand in the safe that I've never fired I've had both for a couple years. I think I just found something to do this weekend!
  21. Looks great! The character marks make it even cooler. I've had one for a long time that I still haven't shot. I'm not sure why... time just gets away from me I guess.
  22. Them's probably left hand bullets. He needs to get some rights. Or maybe he has a counterclockwise barrel built for the southern hemisphere...
  23. Stay fueled, watered and ready to leave ahead of the masses
  24. Trying to convince my bro and his family to head up here before it hits.
  25. Awesome! I still have my Polish underfolder to build. i am pretty much ready to get started on it. I may get started tomorrow actually. I have access to a 20 ton press and have the Toth tool to squeeze most of the rivets. I just got the headspace gauges last week. I've also been trying to get the proper finish on the receiver... I want it to match the original finish of the other parts. My biggest concern is lining up the barrel, drilling for the pin and populating the barrel and actually get it all ALIGNED I'll be learning something from this thread!
