  1. 3/32 taper punch. I use these Brownells videos a lot when I work on my AR. Here's the one showing the removal of the front sight gas block if that's helpful. 2.
  3. The thing that bothers me is posted hospitals because you may not have a choice of going elsewhere. I have had a couple of relatives admitted to various hospitals recently, and they were posted (although not all properly). Sure enough, one of my relatives was robbed by a crackhead while walking into the hospital (fortunately, no one was hurt.) If I need to visit a loved-one, it burns me when they post a sign on the door. Especially when hospitals and ER's attract a variety of sketchy individuals.
  4. Good thing he did all the stretching and breathing exercises before shooting.
  5. That looks very nice! I am a firm believer in quality holsters.
  6. He must be working on his new "Global Cooling" pitch.
  7. IMHO... The goal is to stay alive and well. If I had to leave the scene out of fear of bodily harm, then I would do what would keep me safe. If that was communicated to the 911 operator, I think that would also help justify the actions. However, I would only leave if it was absolutely necessary. Be leaving, there is the risk that evidence supporting a justifiable self defense shooting might be destroyed or altered, but that's better than being overrun by the thug's buddies.
  8. Does the 1300 have screw in choke tubes? You could get an extended, ported choke tube. It would add about .75" to the length of the barrel, but it would allow you to try out some factory porting on your gun.
  9. I didn't, but I will be watching for it. It's just more fun to browse the book than their website. I like buying stuff from them.
  10. My Remy 870. I can hunt anything from small birds to deer, it is reliable, it is easy to clean, it is not going to jam, I have plenty of ammo, I can probably find more ammo if needed It is a good defensive weapon Drawback is it is loud and has less range than my AR. If I could take two, I would (870 and AR15).
  11. I would not cut it! It's a piece of history, and I believe they were made 1908-1917. I would leave it alone, especially since it was a gift from your wife. Maybe you might want to go to a cowboy shoot one day...
  12. The lead slug is softer than the steel barrel, so it should deform before the barrel. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that why shooting steel shot from a full choke that is not designed for steel is bad - the steel shot may be harder than the steel bbl causing the bbl to deform before the pellets. I have also put steel shot through my 1100 fixed full choke before I knew any better. No visible damage there either, but I have since stopped doing that.
  13. My granfather shot slugs through his fixed full choke Remmy for years with no problems. I killed a dear with a slug from his full choke 1100 once. I have other shotguns to shoot slugs with now, so I don't chance it. It never hurt me or my grandfather.
  14. I agree, if it's strictly a turkey gun, then 3.5" is really not that helpful. The best reason I can think of for the 3.5" chamber is for duck or goose hunting with steel shot. That steel shot can be a pain with its lower density and more flyers. It's nice to have more pellets per round to throw at the bird if they are at a distance. Using Hevi-shot fixes that problem, but that's usually out of my budget. Since there is a limit to the number of shells, it doesn't matter using the longer ones as far as capacity goes. Now, for turkeys, I use 2 3/4" lead. I don't shoot as much as I do with ducks, so I can afford to load up with Hevi-shot also. I like my 870, but I don't think anyone would go wrong with the Mossberg either. They are both fantastic shotguns for turkey hunting. I would get the one that felt the best in my hands and on the shoulder. Accessories, barrels and chokes are plentiful for both.
  15. Fortunately, both of those guns have interchangeable chokes, so you can shoot the slugs with the right choke. I have an older 1100 that has a fixed full choke - that severely limits my ammo choices (no steel, no slugs for my gun).
  16. I bet he did. Probably crapped his pants, too. Actually, I was meaning after he walked into your place. I was wondering if he walked in then closed the door or if he walked in leaving it open. Leaving it open makes me think he had buddies planning to come in also, or he was preparing for a quick exit or he was planning to carry out something heavy. Either way, it's pretty weird for a stranger to just walk in. I guess he could have been one of those painters that got confused, but you had no way of knowing.
  17. Good job getting the intruder out of your house - mission accomplished. Did this guy close the door behind him or leave it open?
  18. I got an all camo 870 last year for ducks and turkey. I am very happy with it and have had no regrets. I use a Carlson's full choke when I am turkey hunting. It patterns very well.
  19. I agree with that 100%. I take the same approach with my children.
  20. One of the things I really like about this forum besides the gun talk is the humor.
  21. Yep,M&pc9 I sense the lock is near.
  22. Personally, I don't get emotionally involved in the words typed on an internet forum. I respect the opions of the people typing them, but I have never got angry or hurt over differing viewpoints. I might feel more frustration if I was swimming upstrem on a predominatly Liberal forum, but it's not something to get your feelings hurt over. We have the power to switch to a different thread if we don't like the current one.
  23. I really do see what you're saying. It would bother me a great deal if I witnessed someone treating a gun like a toy. By calling it a toy, an immature shooter could get very complacent and forget the four rules. That's why it is important to follow them always. I think in this forum, most of us just use the term loosly to describe something that we have fun with. Like toys, we probably have more than we really need, but that doesn't stop us from wanting more. They are referred to as toys in name only... at least that's the way I take it. Or you could say it's a toy that has specific safety requirements.
  24. This is a gun forum, and guns have been highly politicized. The political debate is a little hard to avoid since Left-wing extremists generally want to take our guns away by political means. There are lunatics on both sides and in the middle - that's nothing new. I have not read the comments about all LEOs being liars or kids singing about wanting to kill their teachers, but I think the vast majority doesn't agree with that. If we all thought the same thoughts, agreed 100% on everything and there was no debate, the place might be a little boring - don't ya think?
