  1. The cool thing about primitive hunting is that the best equipment is not necessary. My 25 year old Bear bow will kill a dear just as dead as my new one. However, the newer compound bows have two destinct advantages... cam technology has produced bows that are quieter and can launch a fast arrow at lower pull weights. They are usually smaller (lighter), too. A bow that fits you combined with lots of practice is the most important thing. I prefer to shoot a bow near it's max draw weight. For example, if 50 pounds draw is comfortable, I would want a 50# max draw weight. You will also want to know your draw length and have the bow adjusted to fit you. There are a lot of good bows on the market, some are a lot more expensive than others. Matthews has a huge marketing department, and you will see them in use on TV the most. They are awsome bows! However, they come with the price tag. Hoyt and PSE are similar. You wont go wrong with any of those. They are the big names but certainly not required. I found really good value in my Martin Firecat. It was less than $400 new (without accessories) it's quiet and shoots a hunting arrow at 290fps. Something you have to watch out for when bow shopping is whether or not you are buying just the bow or a ready-to-shoot package. On a compound hunting bow, you'll want an arrow rest (Wisker Biscuit brand is great or hunting), a sight (I prefer fiber optic), a quiver, a stabilizer, and a peep sight (functions like the rear sight on a rifle). Some bows are sold as a package with all that already installed. Some bows are sold as just the bow, and you would need to purchase the accessories separately. Just something to keep in mind. Most people also use a mechanical release instead of fingers on a compound bow... Personal preference.
  2. Buck, doe and fawn there now
  3. Another vote for the Henry lever action. All my kids want to shoot that one at the range. One of my favorites, too
  4. Looks great! I definitely still want one.
  5. I love the Gen2. Excellent trade
  6. State law... If they don't know, they just make it up. That frustrates me to always have to wait at the sporting goods counter.
  7. Nice gun! I like the caliber choice too
  8. I agree about the back legs. Also look how her back is hunched and tail is down. Most spooked deer "flag" the tail. She looks hit to me. cool pic
  9. I have that same question. *ETA: Southeastern Iowa on their farm best I can tell. According to the comments, the feeder is now empty and some say it is suppose to get refilled today.
  10. Took some screenshots
  11. Big buck there now
  12. A big 10 or maybe 12 point made an appearance on the Crush Cam few minutes ago. Doe there now. Really cool video feed
  13. I can't really comment on the 357 specifically because I haven't shot a deer with mine. However, out of my 44, I use a heavy lead softpoint. I agree with spikehunter... stay away from quick expanding self-defense ammo. Heavy, penetrating ammo is what I look for when handgun hunting.
  14. Ok, this is going to lead to me spending money. Lol I just realized that I NEED to have a streaming trail camera on my deep-woods stand and food plot. I've started Googling around a bit. Does anyone sell an affordable unit that does this? If not, I may go this route... http://www.ehow.com/how_5772777_build-camera-live-video-stream.html I absolutely love checking the pics/vids on my trail cameras. Being able to watch one or two live would be highly addictive and cut down on the human disturbance.
  15. Awesome. Thanks.
  16. I have a kydex paddle for OWB. Can't hardly beat the Safariland ALS, IMHO. It has positive retention with a button you press with your thumb to release the gun. http://www.amazon.com/Safariland-Concealment-Paddle-Holster-Finish/dp/B00269ZVGG/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=2XOGQ0RX7FXRX&coliid=I3MEZR3XX8WFOV&psc=1 For concealed carry, I have been extremely happy with this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008GUYV1A/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The only thing I have considered changing is adding smaller kydex belt clips, but the supplied steel clips work like they should.
  17. I would rather see a movement to demand term limits. I know it's a huge stretch of the imagination to think that anyone in DC would vote to limit their own term, but I thought obamacare was a stretch too. Maybe term limits that apply to any new incoming freshmen from now on might have a chance. Term limits would significantly reduce a lot of corruption, IMHO. A CC is a huge risk, and I just don't trust those "in charge" to make the right decisions. IMO, NO ONE that would be involved with it are on par with our Founding Fathers. ETA: I like my Constitution the way it is. I just don't like those that have been screwin' around with it. What's that saying.... "Don't throw out the baby with the bath water."
  18. I think clover will do better in the fall than it did in the spring. That's been my experience anyway. I'll be watching this thread to see what advice you get. I can't wait for deer season!
  19. That's cool! Good idea. When I read the title, I was expecting something like... http://www.tonyadamspm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/AesopCatMouse.jpg Lol
  20. I thought this was interesting too... "Because a free-ranging wolf has not been seen in the state for more than a century, biologists were skeptical at first. However, wildlife officials were aware that a few radio-collared northern wolves have wandered as far south as Missouri in the past decade."
  21. I'll go into Gander to look around, but rarely ever buy anything there. I did score a sweet deal on a Nikon Monarch scope once that they had on clearance, but I think the stars must have been aligned or something. Lol.
  22. I like them but can't help thinking about this episode.... http://youtu.be/0AsUx3puIdU
  23. Getting real tired of the PC crowd
