Wo-oo-oo-ooo!!! Chacha-chacha-chacha-chow!

I have to admit Iraq and Afghanistan looked different to me. Afghanistan: we had just been attacked on our own soil. I was all for making a lake over there where bin laden was. Iraq: evil dictator providing safe harbor to terrorist with baggage from the 1st gulf war. Its possible the WMDs from iraq went to syria. Looking back... Yeah, could have been done different. We lost our objective. Syria though feels different to me. We're sticking our nose into a civil war with no clear reason. We have no objective to begin with (at least no honorable ones). On top of that, our allies are not with us. I'd rather put our troops and capabilities on the border and seal that puppy.

Those Stridas look cool. Haven't seen those before. I posted a link to the QuiteKat electric scooter somewhere in this thread, but here's a YouTube video I found of it. Interesting transportation. PRICEY though, ouch. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=62B2fReyZvk

I think you would be ok for a 50 mile trip. Get a VFR sectional chart and avoid overflying other airports (and populated areas) to reduce suspicion. Without a transponder, the radar signature will just be a primary return. At the speed these fly, a radar return could be passed off as a flock of birds. I fly in and out of airports in a large jet as my job. There are plenty of smaller airports where air traffic control advises radar coverage being lost down low, so I wouldn't be concerned about being picked up in a gyrocopter. Stay low and slow.

"Never let a good crisis go to waste"... He has an agenda, I'm convinced of it. However, this time he's messin' arount outside our borders. Hussein has done everything he can to "fundamentally change the USA" since he weasled his way into power. I'm sure he'll do what he can to make the worst decision possible for our well being. That's what he does.

You're right. You might blow out a lung doing it the old-fashioned way. I think you would need to travel with it deflated. That's a funny mental picture.... BOB on one shoulder, air mattress on the other, lol. It might be a handy thing though if crossing a big river was a real possibility. Although time consuming to inflate/deflate

I can swim well, but for some reason I don't like to in the rivers. Maybe watched too many episodes of River Monsters, lol. Actually, my bag is pretty full too, so I don't see myself adding anything to it. Although I am going to bag stuff up like you suggested to make it float.
-
Yeah, that's a bigger problem. Good suggestion. Just a thought, how well would a twin or full size air mattress work as a raft? A thin one packs pretty small and could be useful for other purposes (bedding, shelter, lean-to, etc.)

I keep an aviation life vest in my Truck. It will inflate with a CO2 cartridge or by blowing into a tube. It will deflate and is reusable. Maybe I should keep it in my pack. It's not that big and would be great for crossing a river. http://www.ebay.com/itm/AVIATION-LIFE-VEST-AMSAFE-WAG-AERO-LIFEVEST-/141052471194

My son was really into playing Lego Batman on the Wii when I first signed up a few years ago. I ran across this forum while researching the HCP requirements, and I signed up for an account without putting much thought into my username. I had no idea how much time i would spend on here, lol. Anyway, my son was bugging me to play another game of Lego Batman while i was trying to sign up, so I just typed in "Batman" for a username. Plus, I asked him and he said he liked it :) Funny thing is I really don't even like the character from Gotham all that much, haha. I wished I had chosen a different username within a week, but oh well. I'll get around to changing it sometime.

Getting stuck away from home would be a nightmare. My wife also drives a distance to work, and her being on the road trying to get home is worse. If it does ever hit the fan, I pray we're all at home. I will be bugging in unless it isn't safe. The ultimate plan would be to carry a gyrocopter around in the back of my truck, lol. Not too practical though.

When I was driving a long distance everyday, I used to keep one of my kids old bikes in the trunk. It fit easy enough and was big enough that I could still ride it. Sure would beat walking. One of these would be really nice http://www.quietkat.com/

That's great to hear. I hope I get a good one. I'm really excited about getting this rifle... just wish I would have done it sooner. I've beed reading and watching you tube videos about them also. It's going to be a looong 120-180 days, lol.

Thanks. My first time ordering from the CMP, and that helps. I ordered a Service Grade HRA Garand.

What kind of dog is best about not wandering from property?

Keep its coat trimmed and groomed, and provide good shade with a kiddie pool or something. I had a Siberian Husky for a few years. That dog could not stand to be inside. He made me hot looking at him in the summer heat, but he seemed fine with it. The redbone coonhound I have now is spoiled. I built a big fence in the back yard so he had lots of room to run, but he just sits at the back door and cries to get in. And he does -
Nice Garands! This thread gave me the M1 itch a few months ago. I'm just now getting around to ordering from The CMP. They just received my paperwork and order today. I'm already obsessing over it, so this wait will seem like FOREVER! I really wanted a low serial numbered Service Grade Springfield, but their website showed only HRAs in stock in Service Grade (no Rack or Field Grade rifles at all). I'm excited, but I hope they still have rifles in 120-180 days, lol. I also hope I get a good one with original wood. Those of you that ordered from CMP... did they send you an email right away letting you know your paperwork was received and proper, or did they make you wait until ready to ship for the first correspondence? Geez, it's gonna be nearly Spring before I get it... how can I wait that long??

Do you have Honey for your SHTF "stores"?
Wingshooter replied to TerryW's topic in Survival and Preparedness
Wow, that looks like good stuff. You'll have no problem selling what you can't use. Do you have a lot of bees flying around in your yard, or are they pretty well confined to the hive? -

Mmm. I love wild honey. Just curious, how much space do you need for a couple of hives? -

My Redbone is awesome with the kids and super smart. However, he fails the other categories mentioned, lol. Barker and roamer if I let him. Great watchdog too but not mean. I hope he gets lazier when he grows out of the puppy stage though. Hounds are my favorite, too -
Same here. For my kids 5-6 I began training them on the BB gun. About 8 they were good shots at the range with a .22

Me too! I still get the shakes sometimes after an encounter with a deer under my stand... even a little one, lol. My wife thinks I'm crazy, but deer hunting gets my adrenaline pumping big time
