  1. Brownells has a great video series, and it also explains the common tools used. I picked up a punch set from Home Depot. If you build the upper, you really need an upper receiver vice block and a barrel nut wrench. You can rent a torque wrench for cheap from Autozone. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/lid=11004/guntechdetail/
  2. I was an airline pilot at home on a day off watching the horror on TV. It didn't seem real, and I continue to pray for those that lost loved ones. We must never forget what happened on 09/11/2011. My flight bag continues to wear a "Never Forget" sticker. I also have it etched on the dust cover of my AR.
  3. Haha. I wanted to prank my buddy's cam with a Sasquatch or gorilla suit, but my luck I'd get shot, lol. Funny stuff
  4. Great news for sure. More work to be done, but every steps helps.
  5. And if you don't get down in time, there's not enough Scent Killer available to fix that problem. LOL
  6. Found the cure! I actually did scratch it really hard. I decided I'd rather have pain than the itching, lol. Once I ripped my skin all up then I cleaned it with hot soapy water and triple antibiotic cream (I decided not to pour the alcohol this time ;)). I slept great! Itching is gone, and now it's healing up nicely. Hopefully the "ants in my pants" will be gone by opening day otherwise I'll be out there with a back scratcher, lol
  7. I've killed most of my deer around noontime. I think they know when hunters head for the grill, and that's when they party ;) Since we're talking about snacks, I made the mistake of taking a whole bag of sugar-free cookies with me one time. You know, the ones with that zorbatol (or whatever it's called). Nothing like doing the potty-dance 20' up in a climber tree stand, lol. Learned my lesson on that.
  8. And that's no lie... they all attacked me! I am still itching like crazy. They put a hurtin' on me. I thought they were seed ticks cause I pulled a few (about 50) tiny specks off that looked like baby ticks, but the rash looks and feels like chiggers. Both ankles (bad), both legs, waist, and all areas in between that were totally off limits, lol. Yeowouch! You guys should be able to walk freely at will through the woods and tall grass now. I cleared them all out for ya, lol. Do seed tick bites look/feel like chigger bites? I would have thought this to be chiggers if I hadn't pulled the little devils off with tweezers.
  9. That's another one of the things I love about bowhunting
  10. Completely agree. Not my intent to discourage fall turkey hunting at all. Rutting bucks in the fall, struttin' turkeys in the spring... that's what spikes my adrenalin, but I wouldn't hesitate to hunt a turkey in the fall if I wanted one.
  11. You still have time to get in on a class. You can search for a class here http://www.register-ed.com/programs/tennessee/83-tennessee-hunter-education-classroom-course?zip=37066&distance=75 you can also take the classroom portion online. Your choices will be limited because classes fill up, but you can still get it done
  12. Get there early and stay late if you can. Hunt midday. I see a lot of deer around lunch time when other hunters are heading for their trucks. Hunt the wind!
  13. He won't change my mind. I'm sure he'll say he wants to do it for the children, world peace and because the problems in Syria are Bush's fault. Then he'll go on to say that he can't accomplish anything because the republicans in congress have tied his hands AGAIN. He'll send Putin an iPod as an offering of peace, then he will take the rest of the week off to rest on the golf course.
  14. I agree. I only hunt turkeys in the spring also. A lot more fun. It's available in the fall but not the same
  15. Confirmed at least one bear in northern Bradley County also. They're thriving and expanding their range
  16. Water
  17. You're not too late to hunt fall turkey. Have you taken the hunter safety course? That will be the only thing that will take a little time, but it's not too late.
  18. Mmm.... Nutter butters. Good one. I'll add that to my list I usually take apple slices, maybe some raisins, ham/cheese or a peanut butter sandwich if planning a long day. I always have Halls cough drops... helps pass the time. Oh yeah, Fig Newtons. I never eat them except deer hunting... tradition I guess I usually try to take a snack that doesn't make me too thirsty (PB sandwich gets a pass on that one). I also try to take something that will smell natural or even attracting to the deer if they get a whiff. I also want something I can eat quietly.
  19. One look at Pelosi, and the enemy will turn to stone
  20. I like to carry some binos or at least a good monocular. Thermacell if I'm hunting warm weather. I always keep handwarmers in my pack for cold, frosty mornings.
  21. A walked on my land a little this afternoon looking around. Saw a fat doe, but a brought home a TON of seed ticks. They were out in force, and i had dozens of them on my legs. Can't wait for a good frost... I usually wear long pants, boots and spray down real good... Didn't do that this time. I paid for it
  22. Nice guns! Red, I have a scoped SBH with the same grip also in SS. Great hunting gun
  23. Call the TWRA or DNR for the state where you took it and ask if they can get you a replacement.
  24. If you can get proof of it, no. Did you take it in TN?
  25. I just like calling Lamar to remind him that I am donating money to Joe Carr
