  1. I had that thought when I posted that too, JAB. However, I don't think the manufacturers have a dog in that fight. As long as they're selling all they can produce, that's what they care about. However, I can see the retailers changing the way they order it and ordering more of the 50 count boxes. But then again, as long as they sell all they have in stock it doesn't really matter to them how it's packaged unless there is a better margin in one than the other.   Other than the consumer, the only other winner I can see would be the state as they get 11x the taxes for 50 round boxes vs the bulk boxes since the tax is $.10 per box regardless of the quantity. But they don't have any business telling manufacturers or retailers how to package or sell their products.   I was definitely glad to see such it available and so little interest by the resellers to grab it up. But, all in all, sure it would be much better for the shooter, but I don't think there's enough motivation up the chain for it to happen.  :yuck:
  2.   Are safes typically not waterproof? I too was a victim of the 2010 floods but my collection was much smaller then with no safe, just in cases. So I just brought them upstairs. I only have a cabinet currently but I do see a need for a safe (or 2). However, I would definitely want them to be waterproof in case of another flood, or God forbid, a fire.
  3.   A lot of 'charities' take subsidies from the government. Guess where the government gets the money for those subsidies? That's right, us!    The problem I have with that is that I don't have a choice as to how much I give or where it goes. In my perfect world, the government would hand out zero subsidies and I could keep my money to give as I see fit. That's how it should be. Taking taxpayer money just to redistribute it, in my mind, leaves less money in the hands of citizens who could and would otherwise use it for good things, like stimulating the economy or giving to charities.   Plus, if the charities knew they had to work harder to get citizen's money instead of from the government, maybe they would use it more efficiently.
  4. I stopped in the Murfreesboro Walmart on Old Fort tonight and stopped by sporting goods to renew my son's fishing license and there sat about 40-50 50 round boxes of Federal .22. Normal price of $2.47.   The surprising thing was that there was only 1 other guy there interested in it. He got his limit of 3, I bought 3 and no one else seemed interested in 50 round boxes, although 1 guy did ask if he had any of the bulk boxes but passed on the 50 rounders. Guess they're harder to turn a profit on.
  5. My 16 yo son was driving the car with me in it one night about 2-3 weeks ago and we pulled into a well lit gas station. I saw a guy with baggy pants walking toward the building like he was going in to pay or grab cigarettes as we pull up to the pump. As soon as we stopped, my son turned slightly to start opening the door and the guy was close enough to the car on his side that he could have grabbed the door handle.   Now, my son and I do go to IDPA matches occasionally so he is familiar with having a gun on his hip and drawing. So his first instinct upon seeing the guy was to reach around to his hip like he was going to draw a pistol. The guy immediately put his hands up, said sorry and backed off. He went about his business with no other suspicious moves, but he did hang out at the pump with a women in the passenger seat for longer than is normal. I was in the passenger seat with my shirt tail up JIC.   Obviously I was proud of my son for reacting so quickly. He obviously wasn't armed, but the guy didn't know that, and that movement was all it took to get him to abort whatever he was going to do. Could have been just ask for gas money, but he definitely got the idea.
  6. The alien gear IWB holsters look like a heckuva deal. I've made a couple for myself and their pricing makes it hard to justify the expense and effort of doing it yourself. I just like tinkering - when I have time.   I go single stack subcompact if I need deep concealment, with a spare mag in a pocket on the opposite side. Otherwise, when I need concealment but can cover it, I carry double stack compacts IWB. If you find the right spot you can forget you have it on. Of course it depends some on the gun too. I prefer the double stack because 10-14 rounds in the mag is a lot quicker than reloading in the rare instance you may need to with less capacity. If, like most wheel gun guys, you feel that 5 or 6 are enough, then there's no reason to go double stack and you can wear it even more comfortably IWB.   The hybrid holsters are awesome because they are wide and spread the weight distribution. They don't tend to drag my pants down as much and they won't rotate like the ones with just a single clip. Also, the leather backing on them comes up behind the back of the slide and beavertail so that it won't dig into your side and protects it from sweat .
  7.   That put it over the line of being worth just a lookie loo. Even before that the selection and prices weren't worth the drive into Nashville. Now, I don't even consider it.   It seems that over the last few years it's been getting harder and harder to find good deals there. You can still find one here and there but it used to be that you looked forward to the show to look for the hard to find items and "Show Prices". I don't know if its the internet or what, but it seems like, price-wise, they aren't what they used to be. I saw the same thing happen with computer shows back in the 90's. It used to be that you could buy parts there and build one considerably cheaper than buying the whole thing. Once pricing on complete systems dropped and the web came about so that you could find parts any time, the shows dried up and disappeared.   The Murfreesboro show is still good enough that I look forward to it, but about the only things I look forward to are getting reloading stuff from David since he's all the way on the other side of Nashville from me, and still getting to see and fondle a good variety of guns at one place.
  8. Doesn't Ballistol leave a gummy residue behind?
  9. Looking good. Good definition. What are you using as a heat source? I've been using a toaster oven but I'm having trouble getting it to not overheat the Kydex.
  10. When I carry IWB with a tucked shirt, my main concern isn't the clip, or even the grip printing. It's the bulge that looks unnatural where my belt no longer follows the natural curve around my side or hip and bulges out noticeably. Naturally, a thinner gun would do this less, but they all will to some degree. I can see a little of this in your pic, but would see it more if you turned almost directly toward the mirror.    I wouldn't think most people would automatically know what it was, but it looks unnatural enough to possibly draw their attention. It is more prominent on skinny folks. Depending upon where I'm going and how 'sloppily' I can dress, I'll pull out my shirt just enough to let it hang over the belt line to hide the curve of the bulge. This helps hide printing as well. However, it looks like you are trim enough and neatly dressed enough this may not be an option.   How do you guys deal with the bulge?
  11. Does it do video? Can it spy on the NSA?
  12. According to WSMV, they got 20 guns "off the streets". I bet not a one of them had seen daylight in 10 years, much less been "on the streets" - "This gun is worn out, it won't fire, I haven't shot it in 30 years," said gun buyback participant Dean Gold.   "This gun - there is no way it can fall in the hands of a criminal," said Maj. Clyde Adkison with Murfreesboro police.  I can say the same thing about the one in my safe, or the one on my hip. That is, unless the criminal, you know, commits a crime to get it.   "If we get just one gun, to us it's worth it."    All this program does is convince people who don't know any better that all guns are either: A) Currently in the hands of criminals B) About to be in the hands of criminals or unsupervised children   And that they: C) Are a ticking time bomb to be avoided at all costs D) Are dangerous even in the possession of responsible citizens because of all of the above.   There is nothing pro 2A or honest about these programs. I wonder how many criminals or children turned in their guns to get their $25 gift card?   Edit:  Sorry those quotes were from last year's program. This year they netted a whopping 6 guns.
  13. Isopropyl alcohol and compressed air is probably your best bet. And it's cheap.   I use the non-chlorinated brake cleaner a lot, but it can attack some plastics, rubber and paint and may not be the best for wooden grips. It can also leave a white residue behind. Although I've stripped cosomoline off of Mosins this way with no ill effect. Simple Green supposedly will attack some aluminum alloys and anything water based will be a PITA to dry in all the deep nooks and crannies.
  14. Great choice! I believe I was standing right next to you when you bought it.   Those were the only CZ pistols I saw at the show and they had a nice selection.
  15.   Good to know. I won't let that keep me away now.
  16. I haven't had the chance to use the pistol range yet but I hear it can be busy with training. I've got a few I need to shoot.    was thinking of doing the same, time permitting. May see you out there.
  17. The law should apply to anyone with a Georgia permit, or a permit from any of the states that Georgia currently recognizes.  Per http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/georgia.pdf they are:   Alabama Alaska Arkansas Arizona Colorado  Florida, Idaho Indiana Iowa Kansas  Kentucky Louisiana Michigan Mississippi Missouri  Montana New Hampshire North Carolina North Dakota Oklahoma  Pennsylvania South Dakota Tennessee Texas Utah  West Virginia Wisconsin Wyoming
  18. I wonder what kind of velocity increases you can get if you train your shooting arm like a baseball pitcher?
  19. Maybe that's why there aren't a whole lot of holster options for women.   I guarantee that'll distract the bad guy when she draws.   BTW, there's no trigger guard on that model......
  20. Went to Fl a few weeks ago and the wife and I took a day trip to another town. I did not know what kinds of places we would be going into so I didn't carry walking down the streets. Felt nekkid and uneasy most of the time even though it was definitely a safe area. Looking back I still wish I had taken it.   That's the longest I've been without one on for quite a while.
  21. Here are my first two prototypes:
  22. Maybe I should try and invent another device to keep you from shooting yourself while you install this safety device.
  23. I noticed the second time I watched that when the group is running through Terminus, you can hear people screaming for help from other box cars. I couldn't make out the voices but I'm wondering if it's not Carol and Tyreese. Could be others waiting their turn to become dinner for the next group.   Also, I'm not really sure of the significance of the ritual room with all of the candles. There are names, some with cities or other information, and artifacts presumably of the person being eulogized. Are these people they have lost, or eaten?   You gotta wonder about the sanitary conditions in those box cars too...
  24.     This is what keeps it interesting and makes some episodes (and I feel this last one) epic. I kinda compare it to Breaking Bad in that regard. The character development is used to build those moral situations and you find yourself pulling for them to make the right decision and then they surprise you or make you cringe when they make those difficult decisions that can only occur in that type of survival/lawless situation.     They make a habit out of surprising you with who can get killed off. Like Lori, Hershel and many others that seemed like integral characters, But that's how it would be in an apocalypse. However, for the purpose of the show, I think they would completely lose the audience if they lost too many of the core characters, at least not until the end.   I would love to see the show go 7, 8 or more seasons to show how "society" progresses many years after the outbreak. However, I am assuming most everyone now will make it to Terminus eventually, and with a name like Terminus I wonder if we can foresee the end coming.
