"Open" Forum in Memphis - Gun Violence
Links2k replied to railfancwb's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I am all for more hard time and death sentences. It pisses me off to see the same guys committing crime over and over again. Remember the story in the Memphis CA last summer. Basically the same repeat offenders committing all the crime. -
Got mine today. I am afraid to open it, because I am going to start spending again. I am attempting to save funds for a .308 rifle and a SA 1911.

What the FBI Learned about Gangsta Thug Mentality
Links2k replied to Warbird's topic in General Chat
I am not worried about their feelings. I will shoot a bad guy dead regardless what he chooses to be called. I find myself questioning the mindset of people depending on the words that they use. My point was that the wording was not that of the FBI. What kind of a picture was the op attempting to paint by using the word "gangstas"? -
Working for a company banning weapons on property.

Fedex will never allow it, so Memphis reps will always vote against it. My place of employment (govt) will fire me if a gun in found on our parking lot. -
Tennessee leg hound....just kidding. For me it's all about the GSD.

I have a Bushnell and EOtech with 3x magnifier.

What the FBI Learned about Gangsta Thug Mentality
Links2k replied to Warbird's topic in General Chat
I think the post is bs. I refuse to believe that the F.B.I. wrote a report about "gangstas". I can't dispute the findings, but the wording does not seem like something that would be produced by the FBI. The value of this post to me is to make sure I continue to train to win the fight. -
I use a owb magazine carrier. I usually wear my shirt untucked so it is easily concealed. I would not want to be fumbling around for a magazine in an emergency. Being prepared has nothing to do with being a mall ninja. I have several holsters for different situations and weather conditions.

They should be able to transfer it to the Summer store or any other store in Tn as long as you pay your fees. Right???
-
My initial response stems from the fact that a neighbor is a contractor and he has several of his hispanic workers at his home on a daily basis during all times of the day. So, if one of those workers were to find his way into my home I do not believe that it would be an accident. I also consider the fact that in my situation the guy would almost certainly not be alone. I guess I need to get some refresher training at Range USA.

They have good guys in the Southaven store. I have purchased ammo, EOtech scope and 3xmagnifier from them and they were always friendly. No one in Memphis has the inventory that the Guns and Ammo store on Summer Ave. has. The only weapon that I have had to wait on was my M&P 15-22 and that was only a matter of days.

I think they take pride in that.

Yeah, I know about the 'tude. I have purchased 7 guns from them in the last year or so and they still treat me like I owe them something. I was going to look at The Gun Exchange in Olive Branch, or that place in Cordova on Germantown Rd. I don't have to trade the M&P, but it will be a few more weeks before I have the cash I need. I have actually been saving money to buy a new 1911, 308 or 6.8 rifle. Do you remember when people used to do that instead of paying 28% on a credit card?

I don't know if I would not have shot the guy. Regardless the language barrier or race no one should just walk into your home. Had that happened at my home my wife and daughter would be wanting to move (my daughter has a friend who was a victim of a home invasion and she (my daughter) refuses to stay home alone). When we were living in our midtown apt we had a contractor fall thru the roof. The guy scared my wife so bad that I had to buy a house the following week. I guess I need to work on my self control, but there is something that bothers me about letting that guy walk out of the house. I put some thought to it and you really did handle it well. I will keep that in mind should I encounter a similar situation. I just can't stand the thought of a stranger in my home.

I am also in the market for a 1911. I live in the Memphis area and I am going to start my search soon. I have not decided if I am going to trade my M&P .45 or wait a few more weeks and pay cash. I have pretty much decided that I am going to get the SA Loaded in stainless/blk if I can find one.

My understanding of the membership requirements are that you have to be a NRA member, pass a background check, and pay the fees. I don't recall reading anything on their website that said a sponsor was required.

That's the purpose (hunting) that I have in mind.

I am considering joining the MSSA (MidSouth Sportshooting Assoc.) in June if they will have me. If anyone knows anything about the place can you tell me if it's worth the initial fees and if it has a nice setup. I enjoy shooting (average at best marksman) and I am tired of shooting my ar15 and pistols indoors.

I am looking for an affordable 6.8 upper to use on my M&P15. I ran across the Stag7H and wanted to know if anyone had any good/bad info on them.

39-17-1310 Affirmative defense to carrying weapons on school property. It is an affirmative defense to prosecution under § 39-17-1309(a)-(d) that the person's behavior was in strict compliance with the requirements of one (1) of the following classifications: (4) A person entering the property for the sole purpose of delivering or picking up passengers and who does not remove, utilize or allow to be removed or utilized any weapon from the vehicle. I carry a copy of that in my glove box. I don't want any issues when picking up my kids from school.

+1 If you respond with anything other than sir/maam your a** is grass. Most Memphis cops are crooked control freaks. I had one pull me over because I passed him while we were merging onto the interstate. I want every crooked cop locked up or fired. On the other end of the spectrum I know several Memphis cops and they seem to be good guys. I guess you have bad seeds in every bunch.

I also understand that it is legal to carry on campus if you are picking up/dropping off a student, but will not be exiting the car. Am I correct?

How do you carry with rail mounted light/laser?
Links2k replied to True Grit's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I have a surefire x-300 for my g19. I purchased a Galco Halo holster for it, but I never carry that set-up. The light is mainly attached at night for use if I can't reach my spx or ar-15. While carrying I take along my surefire defender. The defender clips to my pants pocket the same as my knife. -
I carry a g19 with extra mag, surefire light, S&W knife, wallet and keys.
