  1. Sounds to me like its time for a one on one conversation (...make sure it is, in fact, one on one...) with the next door neighbor. Ya might want to think about makin him responsible for your dad and moms well being (...physical and mental...). Remind him that you will be watchin and that you will be the judge of adequate performance in this area. Remind him that the court system aint the only means of redress in these little tiffs. This approach will either bring compliance or will start a heluva feud. My experience is that it generally brings compliance. leroy

RE: Glock barrel conversions. See lone wolf link here: http://www.lonewolfdist.com/products.aspx?CAT=82 I THINK (... need to check to be sure...) that all the 9/357/40 barrels will interchange between families (...families: baby, compact, full size...). To convert ya need a conversion barrel (...that fits your family...), magazine, and (...maybee...) a recoil spring. The other series is the 10 mm and 45 gap/acp series. Two slide sizes. 9mm/357/40 and 10mm/45gap/45acp. I think. leroy
  3. Greg:________________ Try 6.5 grains of Unique, standard primer, and any 230 grain roundnose or truncated cone hardball (...hornady....) you can find. Look in the book for the overall length. We dont have a gold cup; but we've burned a ton of these loads thru regular model 70's and old military colts. Lots of folks like 5.2 grains of titegroup. Another old time load is 5.0 grains of bullseye. Hope this helps. leroy
  4. Ya got a good barrel. Keep shootin. leroy
  5. Gray (...and others...)make an excellent point. I've bought several firearms via the internet; but i never would do business with an individual. Face to face is the best way for an "individual" sale. Thanks for the heads up. leroy
  6. I dont know that there is a "winner" here. Just opiners. leroy
  7. I agree fully. You are exactly right. I wouldnt want you or anyone else participating in this thread to think i'm tryin to make points by innuendo or lecturing. I aint. By the way; you can always tell when you are winnin the debate (...or discussion...). It's when the opposition runs out of valid counterpoints and either attacks your motive, manner of speech, command of the language, posting grammatical style, or calls you a name. They move away from the "facts" (...in as much as we know 'em...); and move to speculations or recirminations. It's a favorite trick of sorry polititians, race-baiters, and other vermin that speak in the public forum of the news media in order to whip up their constituencies and sway the casual observer to their point of view. leroy

  9. All:___________________ I dont to replow old ground; but there were pictures out there of the z man's nose swelled up and his eyes puffed up too; as well as the cuts on the back of his head. I seem to remember that he was treated for a broken nose. It's pretty easy for me to believe that if this was, in fact, the case (...and i think it is...). That the kid (...who is 6"-2' and 180 senior high football player...) sucker punched the hell out of ole george (...who aint very big...). There is a whole lesson in this one as well. Dont ever let anyone you are in a tiff with in arm's reach of ya. But the z man may not have known that (... i bet he does now, along with lots of other stuff he should have been thinkin about before this happened...). This kid is 18 years old, and he aint a choir boy. He wuz old enough to kill for Uncle Sam (...which i think is an honorable thing, by the way....). Trayvon Martin was clearly on the cusp of the age of "adulthood", and seemed to be makin the wrong turn. Being kicked out of school and posting a thug style picture on his facebook or whatever social media page givin the world the finger and smilin with a gold tooth showin aint exactly my idea of a picture of a "contributor to society"; and, as the great jessee jackson would say: "....a role model for the youths of america...". But that's just me. I'm an old guy who is regularly around 20 somethin year olds (...not too much older than this kid...). I know some that are pretty rowdy; but i dont think any of them would whup up on an older, smaller guy over being asked a question; no matter how impertinent. I also have noticed the trend in this country is to downplay the concept of individual responsibility; and assign blame to others for personal actions. That's a bad thing. You can ignore personal responsibility; but you cant escape it. Both george zimmerman and the kid have learned (...sadly...) that individual actions can lead to irreversible consequences. While im at it; the george man looks a heluva more like elmer fudd (...i do too, by the way...) than he does a militant hard case. He looks all of about 5'-6" and about 130 pounds, with a baby face. No wonder the t man may have thought he was a pushover (...if he, in fact, did...). But, alas, looks can be deceiving. I'll freely admit that this little ramble is a combination of cloudy facts, real facts, perception, and arm chair quarterbackin as to what actually happened; and that it means absolutely nothin. But it is, i believe, a fair and valid one. Its just as fair and valid as the one that states that the t man wuz mindin his own business and was assaulted by an overzealous maddog neighborhood watch bulldog. I believe that to genuinely believe that the kid was a victim in this little tiff, is, as the great Hillary Robem Clinton would quip, is "...to suspend reality....". But that's just me. Lastly, i believe that this is a genuine item of concern and that it is a valid item for serious discussion (...both sides of it, by the way....). I also believe it should be (...and I think, is; for the most part...) discussed in a cordial, and adult fashion. AR hit a homerun shot when he said that points are well made by a combination of kindness, logic, and facts. I firmly believe that no one here is doing anything other than just that. I believe there are lots of folks watchin the gun loving and pro Second Amendment community and waiting for irresponsible and inflammatory comments to be used as fodder to prove lies. I also believe that there is a lot at stake here that could reach farther than florida. leroy

    357 sig ..

Sam:_____________ The glock 33 dragged me from the world of steel and walnut (...colt 1911's and smiths...) to the world of polymer. I wuz lookin for a smaller carry gun and an old buddy of mine asked me to try the glock 33 and made me a great deal on it. The little glock shoots as well as any firearm ive owned (..i think, due to the combination of the good build quality, bottleneck cartridge design, and relatively high chamber pressures of the 357 sig....). I'm an old handloader, and my handloads will clock out of this little pistol at an honest 1275 fps. I can say that the 357 sig is, in fact, what the 9 mm was touted to be when the push to 9mm push happened in the eighties. I carry this little pistol in an allen miller (...kholster...) pocket holster. It fits in the hip pocket of my carhartt dungarees. I tend to wear my clothes loose; so a tee shirt can cover up the top of the pocket. I also have an iwb holster for it; but i tend not to like them. I simply cant get comfortable wearing them. Also got a d m bullard owb that i use and it works fine because it carrys the pistol high, kinda like ya would a 1911. An untucked shirt will cover it right up. All in all, the glock is as good a carry pistol as ive owned; and it packs a helluva punch with plenty of ammo to boot. I thinks they are the ultimate reasonably priced carry pistol. Now for the downside. That downside is width. Since the glock is a double stack, it, like me, is a bit fat and blocky. A single stack (...like the walther pps...) is (...in my opinion...) the ultimate carry gun of this type. The problem with the walther is that it's pricy. The new SW M & P single stack may solve this problem. I also like the less expensive kahr; but both of these pistols are either 9 mm or 40 (...which i like, by the way. Got a glock 27 too...). Hope this helps a bit. If you are a gun affectionado (...i suspect you are...); i heartily recommend the glock 33. Its a great thing, especially if ya handload. PS -I like the sigs too. I think they cost too much new though. Just call me "skinflint". Let us know what ya decide. leroy
  11. All: Take the time to read this interesting tidbit from the Daily Caller: http://dailycaller.com/2012/06/14/florida-lawmaker-alec-had-nothing-to-do-with-stand-your-ground-law/ Interestin stuff. leroy
  12. Thanks for posting the picture peej!! I love the gblackbird. I dont care if it does leak fuel on the ground. It's a great thing. It made the russians and the chinese afraid of us. That's a great thing!! Thanks again. leroy By the way, please give bubba and dolomite an "...A..." in physics and vector addition!!
  13. Prang is right on target. Graf is a great bunch to do business with if they have what your are looking for; and generally at a good price. I always tend to buy bullets in bulk. I always look at Powder Valley, Midway, and Graf. Hope this helps. leroy
  14. wd:____________ I gotta question: I'll grant that if everybody had good sense this would have never happened. I'll also grant that george could have been out of line callin the kid out for walkin back home. The problem ive got with this analysis which i lifted from your post: "...Everyone has tunnel vision here! I mean for God's sakes, this kid was minding his own business, walking home from the store...now he's dead by the actions of another! Those facts cannot be overlooked! ..." is that it presumes that the kid wuz mindin his own business and was attacked in some way. That simply doesnt seem to be the case (...based on the facts as we know them...). Asking a person what he is doing may be a bit rude (...in some cases...) but it doesnt amount to a physical assault (...my wife, my kid, and others ask me what im doin all the time...). My take on this (...which i realize is an "unofficial one, by the way...)is that the kid was offended by being called out and decided to put a whoppin on george and didnt quite get it done. The evidence (..that we know about...) points to that. That aint exactly "...minding his own business"... . The kid wuz bigger and tougher than george; and he knew it. It appears to me (...and i bet some other intellectually honest people too...) that george may have called him down; but the kid decided to give him a good whoopin for it. It simply didnt work out the way the kid believed it would; ...little ole man whupped for daring to call a tough guy down.... He almost got it done, and ole george found his pistol. I doubt ole george managed to black his own eyes and knock himself down in the wet grass and cut his head. While im at it; i dont think anyone here is "happy" or gloating that someone got killed over this incident. The truth of the matter is that none of this would have happened if everybody involved in it had have either minded their own business or acted like they were adults. There are lots of people watching this case and the firestorm surrounding it that are wondering what the real endgame is for it. I dont believe for a minute that it is "...Justice for Trayvon; or for Geroge Zimmerman, either..."; and i suspect that lots of other observers dont either. This whole thing smacks of post civil war reconstruction politics and punishment. This one has way too much heavyweight interest and propoganda swirling around it to just be an attempt by the state of florida at passing out justice for two private citizens. There is somethin a lot bigger than that goin on here. That something is big time politics; which, by the way, has no bearing whatsoever on justice. Most likely it is workin on "injustice" for someone (...most likely the citizens of florida...). leroy
  15. Thanks for posting this article. Most of the southern baptists i know aint goin along with disarmament. I aint ready to beat my sword into a plowshare as long as im down here in this present evil world. leroy
  16. Dave: I'll grant all you said in post #55 except the charge of second degree murder charge; which, in fairness to you; ya didnt mention. I lifted this definition of the florida law from the nro blog: "The unlawful killing of a human being, when perpetrated by any act imminently dangerous to another and evincing a depraved mind regardless of human life, although without any premeditated design to effect the death of any particular individual, is murder in the second degree and constitutes a felony of the first degree, punishable by imprisonment for a term of years not exceeding life or as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084. " I'm havin a little bit of a problem understanding exactly what zimmerman did that warrants him fitting into the definition above. Did he exhibit a "depraved mind"? I'll buy the "...without premeditated design....". I still think this one smells bad. Would still like to hear from some floridians. leroy
  17. Brothers and sisters. May have just found out what's goin on. Check this link out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Sink .. Rick Scott won election by one percent against this "other carpetbagger". A real demorat. leroy
  18. This may stir up a hornet's nest; but i cant help thinking about it a bit. The big question that i have in all this is why would the State of Florida go so far out of it's way to thrash a man like George Zimmerman? I understand the problems with the "lying and hiding assets"; but the rest of this thing looks bizarre to me (...based on the evidence we know about...). Why in the world is the State of Florida going so far out of it's way to charge George Zimmerman and drag him through the court system on a murder charge? It appears to me like this whole thing smacks of post civil war reconstruction politics. Is the black and nutty anti-gun and anti "shoot the thug" vote so important in florida that this is an attempt to asuage their indignation and buy their support; or are the state politicos so arrogant that they think that they can kick around most anyone they want to with impunity? I would love to hear from some of our brother and sister opiners who understand florida politics. I believe this one is purely political. It aint about "justice for trayvon" or justice for the citizens of the state of florida; its about something else. I would love to hear what some of our folks with ties to florida think that "something else" is. leroy
  19. Good stuff!! Beautiful job. leroy
  20. vujade:_____________ Back in the "old days" when we shot bolt guns only; we only neck sized the brass we were reloading and kept the brass separated by each individual rifle. That meant that the brass was, in effect, fitted to each individual rifle's particular chamber. We only neck sized the brass when we reloaded it. The problem of "brass growth" is related to pushing the shoulder back on the case each time you resize. The "growth" occurs when ya shoot the round and the brass shoulder moves forward a tiny amount (..."grows", if you will...) to completely fill the particular rifle's chamber each time you fire the round. The problem is that this trick doesnt work too well with semiauto rifles that need a bit of "slop" between the round and the chamber to operate reliably. If i wuz loading for a semiauto i would invest in a good "drop in" type cartridge gage and set up my dillon to do a minimimun resizing that would pass the gage. I like Dolomite's solution given in post #3 above. (...I would run the brass thru a single stage press for the sizing and load on the dillon; backing off the sizing station on the dillon...) It appears that Dolomite's method doesnt allow the shoulder to get pushed back; ala the old time way for a bolt gun with the extra sizing needed for the base (...which i like better than our old method...). It sizes the brass at the base and at the neck; while leaving the shoulder of the brass alone. I've got a pile of 300 win mag at home that needs either trimming or scrapping because of this. The problem was that i wuz too lazy to keep the brass separated between my ruger #1 and an old remington 40x. Hope this helps a bit. leroy
  21. I like 'em all!! Especially the leather. Keep up the good work! leroy
  22. Just another reason to go armed. The words "polititian" and "thug" are pretty closely related most everywhere. I bet there is a "no need to retreat" law in New Mexico. leroy
  23. Gun shops are private property. It's a bad idea to demonstrate on private property (...if anyone if foolish enough to do so...). Once you are asked to leave, "demonstrating" becomes tresspassing. I doubt ole Jessee gets much traction with this one. As others have opined; i know some places where "demonstrating" could be viewed (...and dealt with...) in a very unkind way. If notin else, ole Jessee is entertaining; but my favorite is still the Reverend Lewis Faharakhan (...who likes guns....). leroy
  24. Crossfire:____________ I agree with the "safe to shoot aspect". Now to the "ceremonial and fun aspect" of firin the great model 97 (...the gun the germans called an "inhumane weapon of war" in ww1...). There aint nothin greater than hearin the throaty "kaboom" and seein the white cloud from a black powder loaded shotgun. It's distinctly different and much louder than a smokeless load. You shoot and run around the cloud of white smoke to see what youve hit (...if anything...). If youve never tried it, it is worth it to see the show. Black powder loads were sold next to smokeless loads right up to ww2 (...i think...); and into the thirties (...for sure...). I believe that when the military guys do the cannon salutes use black powder because of the "kaboom" and white smoke. Try it out. It's great. leroy
