Do we have any public evidence of these pronouncements made by this guy; or are they second-handed accounts? Remember, the Right Reverend Louis Farahakhan and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright has said some pretty heinous things. I remember some sixties hippies (....now they are polititians...) that said some pretty bad stuff. Wonder if they will be "evaluated"? Think about it a bit. leroy

Spots:________________ The pictures remind me of when i wuz a boy; and that's been a long time ago. Used to help my grandad dig taters just the same way. What a wonderful window into the "old time ways" in a time when lots of folks think that taters come from the supermarket. Thanks for posting the great pictures. leroy

Z:_____________ My son has bured a ton of powder thru a set of 51 navy replicas he got several years ago. They are his (...and my...) favorite percussion revolver. They just look and feel right. We always ordered parts from these guys: http://www.buffaloarms.com/ . These guys are good to deal with and have everything. Take a look at their website as ya have the time. Here is another little tip on shootin the navies: We loaded black powder, a lubed felt wad (...we made em by the thousands by buying a thousand or so wads, melting some thompsons bore butter in a 3 pound coffee can, and dropping the wads in the melted bore butter ...[...you can do this all over low heat on the stove...]. The wads will soak the bore butter up and make a great lubed wad....), then a round ball, with no lube on the ball. This loading method is quick, safe, and "non-messy". The lubed wads are just the ticket for reasonably fast reloading, and they are easy to carry in your kit. Have fun shootin your navy. leroy

I suspect we are seeing pieces of the Patriot Act being dismantled a piece at a time. I dont expect that the real details of all this will come out; but it appears that the First Amendment won here. This one will be interesting to watch if it goes any further on either side. leroy

Are the FEDS afraid to convict Sheriff Joe?
leroy replied to K191145's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Triple is right on with this answer. I believe it was, in fact, an attempt at harassment and intimidation. Evidently the old man is squeaky clean, or they would have found something ala Scooter Libby. I also believe that some high ranking Demorat from Arizona or other points southwest where there is border trouble gave some good advice to the demorat political operatives. That advice is "....dont rock the boat....". Arizona is pretty much a republican state except for the usual demorat strongholds around the universities and the moonbat larger cities. I also suspect that there may be some quietly spoken "quid pro quo" talk between the feds and the governor regarding bringing charges against demorat political operatives at the federal level. Ya just never know how some of this works out. I believe that several of the Republican governors have sent pretty strong messages to the demorats about heavy handed investigating and enforcement by the U S Attorneys (...who are, in fact political operatives themselves...). Remember, all this "witch hunting" and "investigating" works two ways. leroy -
Nice lookin 1911! I suspect ole JMB would approve. Enjoy and let us know how it shoots. leroy

Razz hit a homerun here. The Republicans are on trial. If they dont do what they have said they will do, there will be a another party in 2016. The Demorats have already committed suicide with real people in this country. The Republicans are on life support. If the Repubs dont straighten up (...and there is a good chance they wont. Watch the infighting now. ....), a new conservative party will rise and what's left of the demorats and the statist republicans with morph into a "New Demorat" party. leroy

I think this one is interestin, and should be carefully watched to its conclusion (...if it's public, which im betting wont be public --- until after the november elections....). Could it be that the provisions of the patriot act were involked and this guy detained under the provisions by a sympathetic magistrate??. Could it be that those provisions were involked and secretly heard, and a federal judge struck em down? There have been a bunch of First Amendment cases over the last few months, all comming down on the side of "free political speach"... I find this very interesting, indeed. leroy -
I like 'em. Would love to have a CZ side by side. CZ has been building this stuff a long time. leroy

AR's advice here is a good thing. We reload for a glock 27 (...40 s & w...) with no problems. We load a "factory duplication" load. One hundred eighty grain bullets at about 980 fps. Havin said all that, most all semiauto pistols have a bit of unsupported area around the cartridge head in the area just ahead of the case head. Ya can see this by removin the slide and barrel assembly, droppin a case into the barrel, lockin the barrel back into battery and takin a look at the bottom of the barrel where the barrel is relieved to allow the loaded round to travel up from the magazine into the breach. If ya see any brass, you have found an unsupported area; so the "unsupported area" thing aint just a glock thing. I just think folks have just "rediscovered" it with the glocks. RE: The "smile and blown round thing": We used to load the old 38 supers pretty hot when the only generally available barrels were colt barrels; and in true "country boy" fashion we would seat the rounds long to just contact the lands when the slide went into battery to fix the "headspace problem" with the old colt barrels (....dont try this at home....) and use heavy loads. This would result in an "unsupported area" of at least the rim thickness of the brass due to the country boy "headspace fix" (...the old 38 supers were originally designed to headspace on a small rim cut on the barrel hood that matched an equally tiny rim on the old 38 super brass (...they almost never did...). By the way, the new supers headspace on the case mouth ala 9mm and 45 acp; so there is no reason to do this silly trick anymore. We always used new brass, and generally on the initial firing we would either get a bulge (...we called 'em a "smile" -- ALA glock "smiles". ...) or a "small rupture". The first reload on the brass would almost invariably completely rupture; so we tossed the brass after it was used once. When ya got a rupture; you would generally get a face full of powder (...that's why ya always need shootin glasses....). I never saw a magazine hurt or a 1911 hurt; but the Hand of Providence was on us. I also think that another mitigating circumstance was that these "ruptures" tended to be right below the hood on the barrel and tended to blow out at 90 degrees to the side; not vertically down into an enclosed space in the magagine well. This prevented the shattering of grips and blowing up of magazines. Thankfully, all of us that were so nutty are a bit smarter now, thanks to Providence, and we no longer conduct nor condone such hairbrained practice. Havin said all that, the results from the reloads were great; great accuracy and flat trajectory over long distances, with spectacular terminal performance. Today, the ISPC and practical shooters do the same thing with the super usin a good barrel, fully supported (....evidently the super is short enough to fully support; so the new barrels work like a charm...) and headspaces on the case mouth. The new 38 super "hotrod shooters" do it the right way; safely and repeatably. We did it the wrong way with predictable results. I think the advice RE: rifled barrels with lead bullets is very wise if ya intend to shoot lead bullets. We buy whatever jacked 180 grain slugs we can find on sale and save the worry and bother of the "shootin lead bullet" thing. I like the 40 s & w. They accurate and powerful regardless of the "40 short and weak" name and the problems with unsupported barrel areas thing. If ya reload them to factory velocity levels; ya souldnt have any problems. Hope this helps. leroy

I happened to read this article this mornin myself before i logged on to TGO. Ya gotta hand it to this ole boy; he may be a real polititian because he is over the top with his comments and has a novel way of askin for the authority to raise taxes. He may be ethically bankrupt (....most all polititians are anymore....), but he has got real over the top style. I think his thinkin this up and tappin into local sentiment RE: this issue is great. I wouldnt make anymore out of this than a novel attempt at increasing tax rates. Always remember, Texas is a sister state to Tennessee. A while ago Tennesseeans walked a long way for the chance to shoot at the poor mexicans. Link here: http://www.tnhistoryforkids.org/stories/volunteer_state ... This guy could be kin to some of us up here. Think about it!!! leroy

JAB:_____________ Sorry i miss-spoke. I'll fix it for ya: "...To say a glock is ugly and utilitarian is a truth. To say a glock is not reliable, powerful, ergonomically correct (...for most folks.....), dangerous to potential evildooers (...in the right hands, of course....), or accurate is baloney.....". Hows that? leroy

^^^^^^^^ HEHEHE... How true. How true. I think the gubmnt should monitor "Infowars" and any other place they want to. They might accidently learn somethin and it keeps them out of trouble. Sadly for this bunch of totalitarian and "thought police" wannabees; we've still got freedom of political speech here; along with freedom of association, and a bunch of other right outlined in that pesky document called "The Bill of Rights"; and they well know it. I want to add to Hi point's great observation a bit: "....Big Sis is, in fact, ugly as hell; right up there with Maw Justice; that other defender of freedom and justice; especially for the Branch Dividians...". Who cares what that bunch of clowns thinks as long as they just think it. They problem comes when thoughts become actions. I dont look for that to happen. This bunch of ugly harpys cant even keep a bunch of male career bureaucrats at ICE beat down. Remember, there is an election this november; vote early and often. The trash that worships this bunch of hooligans will. There, i thought somthin and i said somethin..... HEHEHE. leroy

Casters great pronouncement above wuz me for a long time. I grew up on smiths, colts, and rugers, and wondered to myself who would buy such an ignorant thing as a glock. Several years ago, i found myself needing a small powerful carry pistol that didnt cost an arm and a leg. My smith model 36 wuz (...and is...) a great thing, but it probably wouldnt shoot thru a car door. It also only holds five rounds; and the thinkin was that i might need two of 'em down "across the tracks" where there could be several hoodlums about; and i wuz runnin out of pockets to carry 'em in.. An ole buddy of mine solved this problem by selling me a glock 33 at a price i couldnt afford not to take. I rounded up the reloading stuff and went to work. I soon found out why glocks are, in fact, the tomorrow of self defense (...and military....) handguns. They are incredibly reliable, stupendously accurate, reasonably priced, and full of death as a drug store. Ten shots (...thats two model 36's full of high velocity hoodlum removal pills....) in one compact little pistol that looks for all the world like a combination of green tupperware and scrap iron. Ya just cant beat that combination. Now our little herd of glocks has went from one to three; and were lookin for a 45 acp right now (...hopefully a glock 36....). To say a glock is ugly and utilitarian is a truth. To say a glock is not reliable, powerful, ergonomically correct, dangerous to potential evildooers (...in the right hands, of course....), or accurate is baloney. Now to the most important part of this post. To pharaphrase what a great poster once posed on a similar thread RE: this very subject here a year or two ago: "...You know, glocks aint worth a damn and they are dangerous to handle. Please ship them to me for disposal and ill take care of it for ya, so ya wont get hurt. ....". leroy

Now to get to work findin a rifled slug barrel for my browning bps under the bed!! Or even better, find one with a rifled slug barrel (...or a model 12 or a model 37 or, or or.... . Ya cant have too many shotguns....). Thanks again. leroy

Sad to hear. Dogs are the greatest of creatures. They naturally possess in great quantity all the positive traits (...love, loyalty, fidelity, courage, bravery, strength, fearlessness....) that we admire in the greatest of men; our heroes. Our prayers are with you. leroy -
SSA, NOAA, and DHS ammo purchases???
leroy replied to JPR1959's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Folks:____________________ This ammo purchase alarm thing is a gift from Providence. Everybody is bent about this ammo purchase; which i think (...as lots of others do to and have so posted...) that this is a routine buy to lay in ammo for the "armed/LE" type agencies (...with the exception of the SSA...). It just got publicized at exactly the right time. This is proof that folks are edgy and dont like what their government is doin. In the "old days" of benelovent government, this wouldnt even come up. Now everybody is lookin for signs of trouble. The only ammo purchase that interests me on a personal basis is the SSA purchase (...im an old guy...). Do ya all recon that the SSA special agents are goin to shoot some old folks to get SS payments back in line with the budget??... It also could be the new plan to curb the increase in Medicare costs. Remember, the Germans invented two things; "the original social security"; brought to us via Otto Von Bismark; not the great god Roosevelt; and the "Lebinstrum"; loose translation "living space" to expand the Thousand Year Reich and to give the German people the room they needed for the "Greater Germany". Yall know how the Germans worked out the "Lebinstrum" thing. Maybe Nobama and company have worked out the Social Security and Medicare thing the same way. If they, in fact, have; they have fouled this up too; they didnt buy enough ammo. Maybe they plan to borrow some from DHS to finish the job. Food for thought. leroy
