Used to do some of this lead related stuff.  Lead bullets (...that means with lead exposed....) wont hurt you unless ya get shot with them. If you handle bare lead, wash your hands before you eat or drink.  The main way to get lead into your body is thru ingestion.  All said, all done; this is a "...no, nevermind....".  Another case of nanny state scare tactics. 53:_____________ I've had 'em go off a time or two usin a single stage press and priming arm.  As others have said; "..."too much pressure.  Ya crushed the primer and set it off...".  The problem is that it's hard to "feel" sometimes when the primer seats.  Iv'e fixed this little problem by usin a lee hand primer.  Ya can "feel" the primer seat and get just the "right amount of pressure" to seat the primer like it should  be.  I load lots of ammo; but i hand prime all the rifle stuff and almost all the pistol stuff.  I'll occasionally prime with my dillon progressive; but most of the time i hand prime everything.   Hope this makes ya feel a bit better.  You aint the only reloader to ever do this.   leroy

Thanks for posting this.  Very interestin in that it appears to take a side (...the right one...). That bein said; I always worry about two things; ... the first is..."todays truth is tomorrow's lie..."; and bring non committal.  I'm no fan of Lamar Alexander, but i will give him credit for doin the right thing at this particular instant; always rememberin that tomorrow is another day.  Let's hope he actually believes and will act on what he says here.   Thanks again for posting this. leroy

I like it!!.  Got it's brother in a 26 inch single shot Remington 40X.  Great shooter.  Plenty of "kawhomp" on the target at about any range.  The only complaint is findin a place to shoot that has enough range length.  The only complaint is the brass "growin" pretty quick.  I would make sure that i neck sized the brass to keep the case stretch calmed down.  The 180 grainers and up did the best in our rifle (...sierra matchkings...) usin IMR 4350.   Congratulations and have fun! leroy

AUG has spoke a great truth here:        "Real people" will win this battle.  It's a battle between the folks that believe that the Constitution is the supreme law of the land, and the "fiefdoms of the big cities".  "Low information" people like unwed moms with absentee fathers are for gun bans because they cant bring themselves to believe that the "children" using these guns in gangs, mayhem, and robberies are actually kin to them (...they are, in many cases...) and are, in fact, responsible for their actions.  The cause, in their minds, at least is that "guns are bad"; "someone gave it to 'em", you name it.  Its a created "fantasy" that says someone else (...us gun owners...) are somehow responsible for this problem.  It is a fantasy of shirking of responsibility and placing blame on others for the failures of those involved; just as it's always been.   The inner city in fully invested in the narrative that "...someone else is responsible for the mess im in; and i should be excused for any mayhem and crimes ive done because someone else put me down..."   That mantra has been goin on since the sixties.  The inner city preachers and "men and women of the cloth" are invested in it because it shifts blame to someone else and allows them a pass on saying what is really goin on.  That is, that where the family dies, society crumbles; and that "bad hearts" and evil minds are the root of crimes, rapes, murders, killins, etc.  Folks dont like to hear that; it's too uncomfortably true and it hurts to admit that "...you are ressponsible for your own actions...".  It's a whole lot easier to talk about some  unseen monster puttin ya down; than it is to tell the truth, and they well know it.  The demigogues in the religion enterprise, the "civil rights" enterprize, and the stinkin big city polititians are invested in it because it empowers them and creates followers of the narrative.  These people could give a damn less about the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Second Amendment, or you and me; for that matter. They care about power and influence, and nothin else.   To them, we are the enemy; although i dont (...and i suspect that you dont either...) remember enslaving anyone up there, takin anything from them, nor mistreating them in any way.  This bunch of sons and daughters of satan intend to "enslave whitey and the delightful rustics" who dont see things their way.  It is nothing but an attempt at "scorched earth" retribution ALA post -civil war reconstruction aimed at punishing people who dont see things their way.  It is dangerous, devisive, and could come to a bad end.    We need to keep the pressure on the political class to ensure that the idiotic things proposed by harpys like Feinstein and demigogues like Nobama dont get codified into laws "to help everyone".  It's time for folks to realize that this country has been separated and balkanized by these sons of satan to the extent that most no one cares about this "big city" neighbors, and the "big city" neighbors despise their rustic neighbors who actually believe what the Constitution says.    This thing aint goin away, nor will it be settled sensibly as long as men like Nobama and this cronies are sittin in the white house.  It's been said here and in other places im sure, that the greatest threat to this country aint religious zelotry, Bin Laden, North Korea; nor Iran.  The greatest threat to this country today is the extreme left wing political class demigogues who inhabit the political scene in this county who intend to make this place into a semi-european fiefdom where there are two classes.  The ruling class and the serfs.  Im sure you can easily figure out who is who in this evil fantasy.    The only thing that folks can hope to do is to keep the political class honest and afraid to "compromise for the common good" on these issues.  The only way to keep 'em honest is to keep the pressure on them.  Dont worry about winnin the undecideds and the media over to out side; its too late for that.  As AUG said; this will have to be won at the grass roots level in the fly over country.  More than that, it will have to be fought at every level of government to the extent that the political class is afraid to move on these issues.   Said another way, it will have to be won at the ballot box in ever election between now and the end of the Nobama (...and any other demorat...) administration that puts forth socialist, totalitarian malarkey like this; all the while tellin you its for the "good of the children".  The most effective organization for doin this right now is the NRA.  I would quit complaining, third basing, and criticizing the folks tryin to win this one.  They are tryin to help.  I recommend that we try to help too.   leroy

If ya use a low trailer like bert recommends; ya can go down to the nearest rental store and rent 4 caterpillar rollers.  Ya can ease the safe down on the rollers and your kids can move it into place in the garage assuming everything is flat. It takes almost no force to move the load alone with the rollers. Ya can also do the old timey thing and use the scrap waterpipes.  What ever ya do; if its on a hill, dont let it get away if its on the rollers.  They work real well.  They look like roller skates and are about 4 inches or so high.  One under each corner works like a charm.   leroy

res:____________   Try 12.0 grains of 2400 with most anybody's hard cast 158 to 173 grain bullet and a regular small pistol primer.  Iv'e used this load up to 13.5 grains of 2400 in 38 special cases.  It will duplicate the old 38 -- 44 high speed load that wuz used in the old time n frame smiths.  Also, take the time to check this link out:  http://castboolits.gunloads.com/archive/index.php/t-33906.html .   Ive shot the 13.5 grain loads out of a python for a good while; and plan to use the 12.0 grain loads with 173 grain bullets (...lyman 358429...) in an old model vaquero sheriff that i carry from time to time.  The truth be known; the 13.5 grain load is a genuine "hot" 357 load very similar to the 15.0 grain load in 357 mag cases.   For little revolvers (...in my case; j frame smiths...), i use 5.3 grains of unique and anybody's 158 grain hard cast semi wadcutter.  They bark pretty hard in the little all steel j frames.  I've chronographed them at an honest 900 fps + thru it (... 1-7/8 inch barrel...).   Hope this helps. leroy

Jay:_____________     This is a "play on words" man (...ya must be a lawyer or a philosophy professor...).  I will guarantee you that there are folks who are "grudgingly" either being forced to go unarmed (...due to the need to work...); or are, in fact, taking a risk by breaking a 'condition of employment" clandestinely in plenty of parking lots across this state (...think anywhere there is a large, remote parking lot for employees furnished by an employer...).  That's what this discussion is about.   You can make the arguement that you dont have to take the job and agree to the "conditions of employment"; but that smacks of the old time "company store" and "a hungry dog hunts the best" philosophy that the old timers had in the coal mines in the 1920's.  It leads to resentment and backlash.  It's basically a "winner take all" deal vs a "reasonable deal for all".  I've been done both ways in my relatively long span of 50 or so years of work and i like the "reasonable deal for all" option the best; and ive worked and managed work in some pretty tense situations.   RE:  Places where employees are "forced to go unarmed" in parking lots:   A real good example is the employee's parking lot at the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant and the Watts Bar Nuclear Plant.  I would be willing to bet that you can think of others.  They are anywhere that there is a plant, manufacturing facility, or depot (...think FEDEX and UPS here...) where there is a boundary fence and a designated employee parking area with a guard shack.  You can make the case that folks can park somewhere else and ride the bus to your place; but that's a red herring too.  At some point in the journey they are disarmed.   The point of all this aint to win an argument.  The point is to do the right thing for all involved.  Of course you can take up the position of "...like it or lump it..."; but that's a "...winner takes all proposition...".  If the political class takes that one up in this political climate; i predict they will be voted out.  The best they can hope to do is to "debate and study" the problem; delaying a decision as long as possible; but i predict this one aint goin away.  If i wuz a member of the political class, i would be real careful in the handling of this issue.  It's a hot button issue precisely because folks are concerned and edgy about their (...and their family's...) safety; and they well should be.  The "pandora's box" has already been opened on this one.  I predict it aint goin away.   I want to be real careful how i say this; but the "...position that the boss (...or corporation...) has the right to defend themselves; but that the employees dont...." smacks of the "political class" position that says that the "lesser children" are not smart enough or stable enough to handle and keep weapons in their own private property.  No american who believes in our system and the Constitution should believe such a thing; but that's the logical conclusion of the "...I can have it but you aint smart enough to have it arguement...".  It postulates that citizens (...or employees...) are a rabble to be controlled.  I dont think you intend for it to come across that way; but it does.  Anyway; it's food for thought.   I'll close this little epistle by way of sayin that there are plenty of cases of "settled law" (...think the landlord stuff here...) that have been reversed.  The "Jim Crow" and "Separate but Equal" thing comes to mind here. Jay:_______________   I've been readin this pretty close and ive lifted part of your post above:     I'll offer another perspective on this issue.  I worked for a company that demanded the ability to search my person and vehicle as a condition of employment.  This employer also had a "no firearms" policy.  These issues are issues of a contractural realtionship between you and your employer.   They are not "conflicting issues of property rights vs right to self defense".  No state law can negate the contractural relationship between you and your employee/employer, whatever the case may be.   It is a "contractural issue"; not a "property rights/second amendment issue".    Employers will always be free (...hopefully...) to run their businesses as they see fit.  That includes the ability to hire and fire for cause.  Breaking of a condition of employment agreement is a "for cause" issue.   The way i see this "guns in the parking lot" thing is that there should be a balance between your employee's fourth amendment rights (...to be safe in you person [...from unreasonable search, that is...]..e. g. your personal property.... your car....) and the employers contractural rights.      I think that you should (...and can, for that matter....) be able to, indeed, prohibit firearms inside the confines of the place of business if ya want to, and no laws will be broken.  I think that that right should begin inside the secured door of your place of business and end on the outer surface of the door or perimeter security checkpoint that you may set up inside the confines of the facility (...e.g.... inside the bounds of an "...in the building or facility..."  perimeter that you, the employer, define....).  It should not extend to the employee parking lot.  If you choose to "search for cause", i think that the firearm thing should be a moot point.  If contraband is found (...that is, stuff stolen from you, drugs, etc....) you should be free to fire that employee for cause. If you believe you have found criminal activity, call the police and have that employee remanded to "authorities" (...as the great Homer Stokes said in "Oh Brother"....). You should not be as an employer able to fire an employee for simply carrying his firearm to work and leavin it in his vehicle as an adjunct to his safety travelling to and from work.    leroy

One of the things we need to remember on this semiauto pistol thing (...the 1911's...) is that the fact is that the semiauto design is not inherently as reliable as a revolver; and never has been.  The good news is that most any 1911 (...regardless of price or manufacturer...) can be made as reliable as a semiauto pistol can be made (...and that's very good...) with just a bit of tweaking.  Nine times out of ten, the reliability issue is the magazine.  The other one out of ten, its a minor problem that either you or a gunsmith can figure out and fix.  Most of the time now, the problem appears to be that the parts are "too good" (... read that, tolerances too close.  The problem in the old days is that they were too loose...)    I like all the major brands of pistols from one end to the other.  They are the product of a great breakthrough in manufacturing; the CNC machining station.  We are very fortunate to have all the manufacturers, large and small; widely advertized and quiet; big and little that produce these great pistols.   If you are interested in this reliability thing; take the time to read a couple of things RE:  The US Gubmt trials on the 1911 and the old time calvary soldier's slow acceptance of them.  Its a great read and a great window into the past.   leroy

Mc:____________   RE:  Your post above.  I saw the same article and i think ya are exactly right.  I firmly believe that this administration is desperately lookin for a situation (....like a natural disaster....) in a vulnerable place to try the FEMA / Martial Law thing out; and they are actively interviewing possible accomplices lots of places, including the top of the military.  More than that; there are otherwise sound-minded people that i know who believe that some of the gubmt "ABC" organizations (...think ATF, FBI, on and on...here; along with a few secret ones...) are actively seeking to create or synthesize a dangerous, chaotic situation for this bunch to try to exploit.     The problem up to now has been that ya couldnt do it ala "Sandy" in NJ or NY because they are a reliable "blue state"; and ya cant afford to offend (...nor interr...) demorat brothers.  The other problem is (...if i remember right...); the federal gubmt cant unilaterally declare martial law.  The governor has to formally ask the fed in.  That presents a problem down in our region (...and in most other parts of the country...), because of the large number of republican governors and state legislatures who would be very hostile to that sort of action.  If i lived in a place like Baltimore, Cleveland, or any of these other "blue states"; i would be real worried if some natural disaster happened.    Never discount the distinct possiblilty that Nobama and his clowns may actually think that they are Abraham Lincoln and his war cabinet.  Ya simply never know.  It is, indeed, a very sobering situation.  I firmly believe that this bunch of clowns has kicked the political can so far down the road with their excesses and pushed enough people around that they have managed to get things about as hot as they were between the individual slave and free states and the federal government as they were right before the civil war. In our current situation, ya just need to insert "red" or "blue" for slave or free.   Havin said all that, i dont think there will be any of what i think they dream of because i firmly believe that the Hand of Providence is against them and that they are probably too feminized to do anything.  They only fantacize about it in their "group gropes", "executive retreats", and occasional visits by autocratic sons and daughters of satan like Rahm,  Coumo, Bloomberg, and Chavez (...if he is still alive....).  I say: "...They're all trash; the hell with 'em all".    libertarian isolationist leroy
