  1. HEHEHE.  Good riddance to that son of satan.  The pesky jews have done the world another favor and thumbed their collective noses at Iran.  I think it's great.  As others have opined; we could take some lessons from their actions.  They actually kill their enemies.    I predict that we'll all wake up one morning and that the "nuclear threat" in Iran will be gone care of the pesky jews.  The UN will villify them a few days and talk bad about them; and the rest of the world will breathe a collective sight of relief. Thank You Lord for the pesky jews!   Thanks for posting this good news.   leroy
  2. Interesting read.  A very interesting prospective. Thanks for posting it.   leroy
  3.   These are great little holsters.  I have one for a sig 238 that works like a charm.  Higly recommended.   leroy
  4. Congratulations!  I just picked up a 700 folder myself.  I like it as well as my benchmade axis folder (...and i like it a lot!!...).  They are a great knife.   leroy
  5. I tend to think that 6.8 and Robert are right on this one.  I think all this is noise.  The gubmt would like to do all this stuff, but any "...everybody gets a background check..." law is largely uninforceable.  The dammed criminals sure aint doin the background check thing.  How are they gonna know when ya "transfer" a firearm;... individual surviellence, drones, spies, astral overseers...???    More than that; no polititian is gonna put his name on the passage of a "gun registry database" law; except in a kommunist enclave like kalefornia or new york.  I think this is red meat for the idiots and a fairytale dream for the nobamaites.  I'm old enough to remember the fallout from the gun control act of 1968.  Ask al gore jr about that one.   All that havin been said, keep sending the dollars to the NRA and watch the dammed politicos closely.   leroy
  6. David:______________ Ill be glad to take 3 of whatever size ya decide to do (... i like the big ones....).   Thanks a bunch. leroy
  7. I think the fact that otherwise reasonable people are stirred up about this is a great thing.  We have always needed to watch the gubmt whether they are doin anything nefarious or not.  They know we're watchin now.  That's a good thing.   leroy
  8. itchy:___________   For an excellent read, check here: http://www.simplytoolsteel.com/tool-steel-properties.html   Check this out too:  http://www.emjmetals.com/PDF/BBook/Tool%20Steels.pdf   Earle M Jorgensen is one of the premier suppliers of tool steels in the world.   The bottom line on steel (...and tool steels...) is this:    Carbon Steel is an alloy of iron and carbon; with lesser alloys of maganese and vanadium and other elements.  Generally less than 1% carbon.  For example the 1095 steel used in lots of carbon steel knives is .95% or so carbon.  Too much carbon; and steel turns into cast iron.  Vanadium is used as a grain refiner; that makes the steel extremely ductile.  I've seen 1 1/2 inch bars bent into a hairpin bend (...180 degree bends...) that were classified as carbon steels.   Alloy steels (...stainless and tool steels included...) have Chromium added.  Stainless is over 11% chromium.   The chromium prevents the steel from rusting.  The original name for stainless steel wuz "rustless steel".  It wuz developed for gun barrels (...big ones; think naval gun barrels here...).  Chromium also makes steels brittle and hard without heat treatment.  Straight chromium stainless steels are also referred to as "martensitic stainless steels".  Alloys of chromium, nickel (...18-8...) are what stainless flatware is made out of.  It's called "austenitic" stainless steels.   "Super steels".  For the most part, "super steels" are just simply carbon steels with various small additions of various elements added to enhance strength, ductility, hardenability, rust resistance, etc.  The link gives a good explanation of what the individual alloying elements do to improve the steel.   Melting practice.  All good steels are either electric furnace or vacuum remelted steels.  That makes the steel more homogeneous and "cleaner" (...free of slag inclusions...).   Tool steels are hot rolled bars for the most part. The "cleaner" the steel, the more homogeneous and free of defects.   Defects like slag inclusions cause the steel to break at the spot of the inclusion many times.   Heat treatment.  All tool steels are hardenable.  That means ya can heat treat them in a heat treat furnace.  The techniques are well known and the furnaces do a great job with repeatability.  Lots of production and custom parts are heat treated to specified hardnesses.   All knives are made from some sort of tool steel.  They all just have funny names; or catchy names.  It's all baloney and marketing hype.  Dont let these knife makers fill ya full of baloney about the "secret manufacturing processes".  The methods and techniques for this sort of stuff are well known.   Hope this helps a bit.   leroy
  9. I guess in my view; the steel thing really boils down to this: Do ya want to worry about a bit of rust forming on your pocket knife or not?    If ya tend not to wipe down your knife, or cut an apple or orange with it every now and then; i would opt for a stainless type steel (...any of em...).   If ya want a real sharp knife that will re-sharpen easily, get a carbon steel knife.    I've just picked up a couple of esee knives (...and es33 3 and an izula...).  They are carbon steel and have a shaving sharp edge on them.  I touched them up in about two minutes with a pocket stainless dmt ex-fine (...green...) hone and a razor strop.  They are literally "sharp as a razor".   The stainless knives (...all of em ive ever handled, from great to small...) are harder to sharpen; and simply will not sharpen up as sharp as a carbon steel knife.  All that bein said; they are all great.  They will be sharp enough (...a relative term, i know....); but shaving sharp, none the less and will do a great cutting job.    Im a knife junkie by nature and have been foolin with them and sharpenin them since i wuz a boy.  We are blessed to have the great selection of knives and knife makers; but there is more baloney and pure lies circulated about knife steels and "super secret heat treatment regimens" in the knife blogs and industry than any other branch of the sales business (...i think...).  I made my living for a pretty good while around the edges of the steel industry (...engineering and big machine shop....).  The fact is that tool steels (... which knives are mostly made of...) is good stuff.   From the most humble (...AUS 8...) right up to whatever the most current super dooper stuff is; its better than ya can imagine.  It's tough, high strength, and very pure material.  If ya dont abuse it, it wont break.  If it does (...very rare...), ya were probably doin somethin with it you shouldnt do (...think pry bar here...).    Carbon steels (...1075, 1095...) are high carbon tool and spring steels.  They are strong (...think about what a tool steel does; it cuts steel...), tough and relatively inexpensive.  I like it best, because i tend to take care of my knives and like an xtra sharp blead.    Havin said that, there are two edc carries in my pocket right now, a ZT 700 folder and a little spyderco folder; both stainless.  In my kit bag however, are the two esee fixed blades, both carbon steel.   The end of this little ramble; pick the one you like from a serious manufacturer and you cant go wrong.  Dont be dragged off in the bushes by the "knife experts" and the baloney about the proprietary heat treatments and secret manufacturing processes.  Its all baloney.  Heat treatment of steel and steel making is a highly developed and well understood business.  Ya do the same things to get the same results.  The real difference in knives is individual workmanship details and degree of sharpness out of the box; nothin more.  If ya buy a spyderco, al mar, benchmade, h&k, zero tolerance (... really kershaw; kai industries...), boker, queen, case, on and on (...ya get the picture...), that ya like, ya cant go wrong.  Take the time to learn how to sharpen a knife properly and it will serve ya well.    Hope this helps a bit and dispells a bit of the baloney about knife steels.   leroy
  10. Tim:____________   Good shootin.  Somethin to think about when testing loads.  Back in the "old days" we always would shoot a "fouling shot" then shoot the group.  We would clean with a good cleaning rod usin whatever ya like.  We always used a solid rod, pulled the bolt and cleaned from the chamber to the muzzle with a real good rod (...think deweys or somethin like em...). Then, lots of us liked "JB bore cleaner".  It may have fell out of favor since it is essentially a light abrasive (...very mild...); but we would shoot a five shot string and swab the bore, then run clean patches thru; then shoot again.  Essentially, ya clean after every fouler plus 1 5 shot string..  That lets the barrel cool down a bit (...i doubt you are havin any trouble with that anyway...), plus it keeps a "clean bore" for every fouler plus 5 shot string.  Ya might want to think about this a bit.   PS-- It is a truth that every individual likes some individual handload combination best.  Ya are goin about the right way to find it with the "ladder testing".  That's what we did.    Also, there is an old handloadin adage that says that the "best load" is somewhere around the 90% of max loading or up plus the case full of powder.  I've found this to be a truth.  Also, primers do make a difference here.  Ya may want to experiment with them once ya find a promising load.   Keep up the good work. leroy
  11. My guess is they are lookin for somethin in particular.  South florida is a hotbed of dope and thug activity; and lots of stuff can come into the ports of entry there.   With all the noise bein made by the "ancient ones" in the middle east; some nut groups may have been emboldened with our present policy of not punishin any potential enemies of the USA; and might be totin some bad stuff around.  I suspect they could be lookin for low level radioactive stuff; but that's just a wild guess.  If ya slow down, the detectors can pick it up. They aint doin this just for the symbolic effect.  They may have been tipped off about somethin.  Who knows.   wonderin leroy
  12. I like it.  Never had seen the complete set before.    Thanks for posting the picture. leroy
  13. Amen brother!   Keep up the good work. leroy
  14. Gone:__________   RE: This:     Glad to hear it.  Many believe that whatever the "conventional wisdom" is the gospel; and equate unquestioning loyalty to country and by extensions; that country's diplomatic actions; including any wars, as a quality necessary for being a "patriotic" citizen of that country. Said another way: "...My country right or wrong...". I dont believe that nor do i believe that anyone else should either.  That is exactly why i picked your post out as unkind.  It appears that i wuz wrong; and for that i apologize.   Many have tried to link honest and sometimes discomforting discussion about the political motives regarding war to  "...condemning the war and the troops..." to provide cover for their disgraceful motives; and to besmirch the motives of and question the integrity and patriotism of their adversaries.   That is demagoguery pure and simple; and i get stirred up about it.  Sorry for the misunderstanding.   By the way, i dont forget a dammed thing.  Its both a blessing and a curse.  I remember George Bush sayin he wouldnt turn Iraq into Vietnam.  He did; and the dammed politicians and the senior command of the military helped him do it.   leroy
  15. Raoul:_________ Even better.  Target sights and a 3 inch barrel.  Would be hard to beat in an inside the pants holster.  I'd round it up if the price wuz right. Lots of folks send the older ones (...like mine and the model 60...) to hamilton bowen to install adjustable sights.  Looks like this on has got everything!!  There were some target sighted model 36's and some square butt 3 inch barrel 36's as well.   leroy
  16. Raoul:_____________   I dont know about the model 60; but i do know about its older brother the model 36; its the all steel (..which i prefer...) blued one.  I'm never without one.  They are the best concealable revolver out there.  I keep mine close to me with 158 grain hardcast semiwadcutters loaded in it over 5.3 grains of unique.  It will chronograph an honest 900 fps out of the little 1 7/8 inch barrel.  I like to shoot it double action.  It will carry in my front pocket in a pocket holster or in my coat pocket.  They are a great thing.  I highly recommend 'em.  It's always in my camera diddybag when i venture out into the hinderlands.   leroy
  17.   Gone:___________   I didnt forget a dammed thing; and I dont remember condemning the war, nor condemning the troops. I'm gonna be uncharacteristically reasonable about this and presume that you simply didn't completely understand the post.  Thinking about and adopting isolationist political views doesn't equal vilifying the people who serve in the military; nor does it mean that we shouldn't take punitive actions against those guilty of doing wrong things.  George Washington was an isolationist.    I did say that i think this "implacable enemy" thing needs a good lookin at.  Smedley Butler was the equivalent of a 3 time Medal of Honor winner and a life long Marine.  He was in line to be the Commandant of the Marine Corps; but politicians lined up against his nomination for voicing the very issues we are talkin about here.  They couldn't question his personal bravery nor his patriotism, so they did him in thru political intrigue.    There is a difference between demonstrating bravery and heroism while fighting for your country and questioning the motives of certain of those in power who set policy for this country.  The bravery-heroism-patriotism thing aint necessarily locked together in the "my country, right or wrong thing"; and those who might have questions about the exact "why" of doin things aint necessarily the enemy.  In WW2, there were plenty of german heroes; we can quibble about the virtue of the political policies and goals of what they were fighting for.  That's what is being said here.   No one has "...condemmed the troops...." as you have said.  Someone has questioned what we as a nation are doing.  I think that is a fair question.  I say more and more folks ought to be (...and, in fact, are...) wonderin about it.   leroy
  18. Papa:_____________   I agree with the opinion that the "ron paul" faction and the 'tea party" faction are (...in most cases...) two different factions.  You and i know that and can agree on it; but look at it from the karl rove goofy perspective: "...they are all the same ignorant rustics...".  That's what i think is goin on with the "tweet" thing.  They are tryin to besmirch and smear all factions that oppose them.  They aint worried about separating them; they dont like either one of 'em.   RE:  Isolationism..  Ive come to believe that continuous foreign war against some "implacable enemy" is a bad foreign policy decision; and that it is ethically indefensible.   There is no nation on the face of the earth that is more powerful, more feared, nor more aggressive than the United States (...when we take the notion...).  The main problem with foreign war is that, for the most part, it is unnecessary and does great internal damage to this country and it's citizenry.    Take a look at the broken lives, maimed bodies (...both body and spirit...), orphaned children, and widowed wives that this "war on terror" has wrought.  All for a war that wuz won in about six weeks.  I can support the six week war; i just cannot ethically support a continuous war against an "implackable enemy.".  Could it be that we are sacrificing our fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, and children in endless foreign wars to feather the nest of various special interest groups?  This is, indeed, a sobering and thought provoking question.  I would recommend that anyone who thinks about these things read this little book: "War is a Racket" by Smedley Butler.  The examples are a bit dated, but the message conveyed is, indeed, sobering.    For what it's worth, i didnt come to this conclusion hastily; nor did i want to believe it could be true.  It is antithetical to most folks (...mine included...) deeply held ethical and political beliefs; and is an affront to the principles on which this country was founded.  I have come to believe that while we are fortunate to live in the greatest country on the face of the earth, founded by the greatest set of founding beliefs and documents; we have raised up a morally bankrupt, ethically decrepit bunch of elitist politicians (...for the most part...) to lead us and make these world shaking decisions; many of which are both wrong and by design are made with an eye toward lining someone's pockets. As Butler said:  "...War is reckoned in dollars and paid for in blood...".   Dont be dragged off into the brier patch by those who say that "strategic interests" and "dangerous factions" are about to finish this nation off; and that we need to continue with this foreign intervention to ward off these "grievous dangers".  The swiss have been mindin their business for centuries.  No one has successfully threatened them.   I fully realize that this opinion may be a "minority opinion"; but it needs to be carefully though about by every american citizen.   leroy
  19. Lester:___________ I dont think that they use lead styphenate now; but i aint sure what they use.   leroy
  20. What Ron Paul thinks is a personal matter that he should have kept quiet about in a perfect world.  Like kieffer and mav; i believe that this is nothin more but a cheap shot attack on the "Ron Paul" faction of the electorate and the Tea Party.  What we or anyone else thinks about the Chris Kyle tragedy is just that; a bunch of thoughts; that most folks, includin me should keep to themselves.  I say its political chicanery to besmirch and smear this old man and, by implication, to besmirch and smear his ideals; which, at heart, are isolationist, and very popular among the Tea Party faction (...me included...).    Remember this, America was an isolationist country up until 1898.  We need to quit meddling in other people's business, and tend our own.  If we did more of that; men like Chris Kyle and other veterans would not have to risk their lives, bleed, and die for the likes of foreigners who hate us and our ideals.  Could it be that we are doin the wrong thing by meddlin in everybody else's business?  Its a very interesting thought.   leroy
  21. I like Rand Paul.  He says most everything that i believe.  Let's hope that he aint just another lyin polititian.   RE:  The future of the republicans.  If folks like Rand Paul and others who are actually conservative and believe that the constitution and the bill of rights actually means what it says dont win the ongoing fight within the republican party against the likes of the "bluenose general bullmoose" type republicans like the disgraceful carl rove; the republican party will cease to exist and morph into the demorat party.  I see where the great rove and others like him are busily committing circular firing squad suicide by workin on a bluenose super pac to fight the tea party candidates.  A sure way to move to permanent minority status or extinction.   Here's hopin. leroy
  22. Lester.  Ya remembered right.  The stuff in old primers wuz Lead styphnate .  There aint anything wrong with your brain brother! We might could quibble about mine a bit though.   leroy
  23. There is no doubt that the executive branch of this current government is harassing businesses with "silly raids" and "capritious prosecutions" of political enemies (...read that anyone with money who is a republican...).  The Gibson  rosewood thing is the greatest example i can think of at the moment.  The demorats are, in fact, punishing republican donors and threatening their political enemies.  I cant wait for them to pick on the right one with this.  I'm lookin forward to them tryin the wrong guys out.  They will finally take one over the line and get caught.  This is just another reason the despise this bunch of chicago thugs and vote as many demorats as ya can out of office in 2014.   Remember, vote early and often. leroy
  24. Interestin stuff.  Thanks for posting this.   leroy
