  1. Nightrunner said it best.  There are two handguns that all finished gunmen and gunwomen should own.  The first is the great colt single action army (...or one of its real clones....).  The second is the "real" 1911 (...the one with no rail, no bobtail, and no target sights...).  Both these handguns were built by the greatest (...at one time...) handgun builder in America.  Both served as the official sidearm of the military when lots of killin wuz goin on.  It is, indeed, fitting that the 1911 replaced that greatest of all handguns, the single action army colt.   Now that ive said all that stuff; the question is do i carry one.  The answer is "no".....  Too expensive (...for me at least....), too heavy (...which you can fix somewhat...), and not everyone can shoot 'em well.     Moral of this little story.  Buy yourself a 1911 so ya can "bond with it" , "feel the presence of its soul", and "think about what horrendous battles must have been fought with such tools"....  Treat it kindly; take it out and show it to friends on special occastions and to the range on pretty days.  Carry somethin cheaper (...a humble plastic pistol...) and shoot with it a lot.  Choose one that you wont mourn for while it sits in the evidence locker for five or so years should you (...God forbid...) have to use it to finish a bad guy.   That's how i see the 1911 thing this mornin.... .  I may get mine out and sit it on the couch next to me this mornin..  It's a pretty day here in east tennessee.   leroy
  2. .....Cool tool.  Never seen one that fancy. ....   Good luck and have fun.   leroy
  3. The best gun to have is the one you have with ya when ya need it.   leroy
  4. Very interesting...  A smart guy once said that"....Politics wuz theatre for ugly people...".  I think he wuz right.   Thanks for posting this interestin analysis.  Sadly, i think it's true.   leroy
  5. Find ya a 4 inch Redhawk or a 4 5/8 blackhawk in a caliber from 44 mag up.  Make sure ya get a holster like this one:http://www.diamonddcustomleather.com/Chest_Holsters.php  ..     leroy
  6. Try this stuff (....303 aerospace protectant....).  Ya can find it in several places.  Read about (...and order, if ya like...) from here:  http://www.autogeek.net/303aerprot.html . It cleaned up some pretty faded stuff on my jeep doors.   Hope this helps.   leroy
  7. The whole Gifffords show is a great window into the future dreamed for by the Demorat gun grabbers.  Ya see, this guy and others like him are much more erudite and enlightened than the rest of us delightful rustics who actually believe that the Constitution means what it says; ergo, its ok for him to own an AR; but it aint ok for you and i to own one.    As my 23 year old is fond of sayin:   "...These sons and daughters of satan are busy tryin to bring the old world to the new.  They are part of an avant guarde, new would be "ruling class" that wants to make this country into a new pseudo-european serfdom in which they are the lords and you can guess who the serfs are...".    This man (...like john glenn, john mccain, and several others...) is living proof that an excellent military record and service is not tatamount to sainthood, patriotism, nor love of country.   All these people took an oath to "....defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic...".   I dont know about you all; but it looks to me like that all them solemn oaths weren't worth the breath it took to say 'em.  Proving again that there are lots of opportunistic, no-conscience, peices of excrement out there masquerading as heroes and "enlightened ones".  They would have you and i believe that they are the "best and brightest"; and only they are fit to "do the peoples" business" in government.   At the end of the day; all this is about what ya believe down in side.    If ya have no core beliefs, a bit of fame or political opportunity will soon bring the lack of them out.   I say, as the old scotsmen would say: "....Ta heel with 'em all; theyre all no good...".   leroy
  8. Think about free floatin the barrel.  The 3 together thing with fliers sounds familiar to me.  We used to fool with 222's.   leroy
  9. Bryan:__________ RE: Forgot this one.  Mine has got the large grips on it (...the ones that reach below the heel of the grip...).  That calms them down; but then the grip is pretty big.   leroy
  10. I've got a Bond Arms 3.5 45 colt/410 that i picked up from another member here on TGO.  They are a great thing; and i like the flat sides. I keep (...and sometimes carry...) mine in a D. M. Bullard iwb holster; and it works great.  The only problem with these beasts is that they are basically a two shot weapon that weighs nearly the same as my baby glocks or a k frame smith.    All that bein said; they are a thing of beauty and a genuine work of art.  Their quality cant be beat.  More than that; they've got a helluva bite for the first two shots.  Most likely, that would be all ya would need.  They are the ultimate derringer.   leroy
  11. Whia.  They are pricey (...as others have said...); but they are good.   leroy
  12. I like the Powder Valley folks.  They have always done a good job on everything ive ordered from them.   leroy
  13. Interestin stuff!!  Thanks for posting this great map.   leroy
  14. HEHEHE.... Glad he dead...!!!  The only problem (...as other posters have said...), is that the poor Venezuelans may get something worse. Chavez wuz a genuine demagogue who promised these poor people lots of things they ever got.  I fear they may continue to be slaves ALA central american style.  We've got a dear friend from central america who told me one time that 15 families owned everything in his country (...El Salvador, i think...).    leroy
  15. HEHEHE...  Arming americans is always a good thing. Thanks for posting this very interesting data.   leroy
  16. Mark:____________ If it's brass it will clean up.  There may be some pits or scratches.  They dont mean much. As Rauol said; it will load ok.  That bein said; beware of the steel cased stuff (...check with a magnet...).  It will stick in your reloading sizing die.  Probably cant get it out without ruining the die.   Hope this helps. leroy
  17. I looked for this one too.  Cant find much "real" stuff.   leroy
  18. Thanks for doin the review.  The Keltecs are good firearms.  There are lots of 'em walkin around in pockets all over this country. I count that a good thing.   leroy
  19. I'm kinda like the great Jim Crow in that great Disney production "Dumbo"....  "Ive seen a backporch swing, heard a diamond ring, but i aint never seen an elephant fly (....nor a glock fail....)!!..".   My BS meter is off the scale on this one.   Follow the money.  There aint nothin new under the sun.   leroy

Earl:_______________ Is your H & H a sporter or a long range bull gun (...26 inch heavy barrel...) ?  I've got an old 30-06 postition rifle. They are a great thing.   Regards, leroy
  21. OS:_____________   I fully understand and appreciate your skepticism RE: "...sentiment for gun control..." and the polls.   My thinkin is that most folks understand now that polls are pretty much rigged by the people that pay for 'em.  The pollsters simply get the answer that the client pays for many times and most folks understand that now.     The signs that ive found interestin (...and hopeful...) are more and more real folks pushing the state legislatures for reinstatement of firearms rights in general (....the "Shall Issue handgun permit thing is a good example.  The federal appleals court even slapped the state of Illinois on this the other day.  They have 180 days to craft a sensible Shall Issue law....).   Look at the backlash on the tightened gun laws in New York state here the other day.    Another hopeful sign is that women are callin out the gun control crowd.   Women are, on balance, the most reasonable among us.  They have thought thru this gun control thing and figured out that it is nothin more than a ruse for clamping down on law abiding citizens.  They know, as we do, that the problem aint the selling of guns; its the evil intent behind those who use them to do bad things.  I think more and more people are again realizing that some people are simply evil or nuts, and no amount of law will clean that up.    Certain of the black community (...i fear not nearly enough...) are questioning this gun control thing and reminding some of their brothers and sisters that these restrictive laws will (...and have in the passed...) made the black community more dangerous to live in.   I do believe that the gun control crowd can (...and are...) makin some hay with the expanding of data bases on the "mental issues" issue ALA Jared Laughtner and Adam Lanza; who i think were protected by "medical privacy" laws and doting parents.    Havin said all this hopeful stuff, and at the end of the day;  im kinda like you.  The political class is pretty nutty and overbearing right now.  Who would have ever believed that men like Joe Biden would have ever been elected VP?  I sure wouldn't have; but were livin in strange and unusual times.   Keep up the good work.   leroy
  22. Will:____________   We've got several of his brothers in 45 colt and a couple in 44 special.  I like the way they handle; especially the hammer spur. They are a great thing.   Have fun and thanks for posting the pictures.   leroy
  23. I'm a big fan of Louis.  He is one of the greatest entertainers..... evah.  He has the greatest orations on the nuttiest of things.  We need Lewis Farrakahan.  I hope God continues to bless him with long life.    Havin said all that, he preaches some dangerous things.  He would do well to keep them up in the cesspool of the inner city (...which i predict they will....).  I know lots of delightful rustics that wouldnt be nearly as broad minded as i am when it comes to this stuff spillin out to where real folks live.  I say:...."Keep talkin Louie; and keep waitin for the Muthahship; but dont let them heretical thoughts spill out into the countryside.  Some of us rustics might not like that....".   rustic leroy
  24. David's got a good point here.  I use #9 in my 357 sig with 125 grain bullets.  Plenty of accuracy, power, and it's cleaner (...as i remember...) in the sig. I wuz shootin it out of a glock 33.  It's basically a 3 inch barrel.  Probably worth lookin into.   leroy
  25. Jay:_____________   Just happended to think of somethin else ALA Gun Control Act of 1968.   There was some sentiment in the country for this one.  .....The Kennedys, MLK......  I see no sentiment among most people for gun control now.  Now, you have individual states actually expanding gun rights (....or, more correctly, restoring gun rights....).  Even the "Snozz" Haslam is sayin that "... state officials are monitoring the federal legislative scene closely to see that the gun rights of Tennesseeans are not infringed...".   That simply was not going on in the 60's.  I firmly believe that more and people are discovering on their own exactly what the Second Amendment is really about.  I count that a good thing.    As to the Republican thing; ...i see them (...for the most part...) as just another bunch of sons and daughters of satan that want to tell you and me what we can do, what we can have, and how much money we can keep.  That is exactly what has made me a radical isolationist libertarian.  I dont like any of 'em.   Keep your powder dry.   leroy
