Wait until they read a high roller or "fortunate son's" mail and take him to court. They can do anything they want until they make it to the federal court. leroy

Anyone who can understand Schumers proposal please
leroy replied to Krull's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
My guess is that this is red meat for the gun control democrats and cover for red state democrat senators. It allows team obama and their children to say they did something on the gun control issue while giving cover to the red state democrat senators by way of the "ruling class" rino republican senators; nothing more. As to the "removing of reciprocy" in concealed carry permits. As far as i know, the federal government has no jursitiction in this issue. It is a state issue, not a federal one. As to this: ".....The Manchin-Toomey agreement would close the so-called “gun show loophole†by requiring that background checks are conducted on all commercial gun sales in the country. ...". There has always been a federal law that says "all commercial sales" are to be background checked on handguns. My guess is that this is political pandering and red meat for the democrat "anti-gun" base. With a complicit media; it will be heralded as a policy victory for team obama. Interesting read on this subject here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/right-turn/wp/2013/04/09/the-gun-control-vote-and-harry-reids-problem/ Here's watchin leroy -

fivestring:__________ My son used to shoot lots of cap and ball revolver suff. We burned lots of powder thru a pair of 36 navies (...my favorites...). We have several other cap and ball revolvers as well. They were all from uberti or cimmaron (...uberti too...). They all needed some bit of tuning; but when the tunin wuz done; they were as smooth as glass and shot really well. As to the cap thing; in my experience it wuz hit and miss. We usually wound up changing nipples on most ever revolver and fitting the right caps to it. The trick is to get the caps to fit exactly right and to fall off the nipples as the revolver is re-cocked when shootin pretty fast. If the nipples dont drop off; sometimes they will bind up the hammer. I would try to get the nipples and caps to fit as closely as possible with little to no "crimping" of the cap to hold it on. We also used the trick of putting a little dot of bore butter on the side of the nipple to help hold the cap on; which works pretty well until the revolver cylinder heats up. Here is a great resource for the cap and ball stuff: http://www.buffaloarms.com/default.aspx We used to buy most all the parts and supplies we needed from them. They are good guys. Bottom line on the cap thing... buy several sizes when you order them and help yourself out by buying a cash inline capper. Have fun with your cap and ball revolvers. They are a great thing!! leroy

The Second Amendment as an Expression of First Principles
leroy replied to Garufa's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Thank you for posting this great analysis.. leroy -
Tried to pass some of it out in the stuff under the first paragraph along with the why. I think the SHTF thing is goin on now with lots of folks realizin what the gubmt is really up to under the present regieme. I understand that some folks aint gonna agree with the analysis, and im ok with that. I'll end this with a simple question: Do you know anyone who the government has come for in the middle of the nite without a warrant... ?, What did they do?.... I know Alex jones thinks this is goin on; but im lookin for some local confirmations. I aint seein any. I'm just pointin out that folks need to think thru what is goin on. leroy

I like 'em. Got the series 70's brother in the gun safe with plain pachmyers on it. Its gettin a bit cloudy on the plating; but that makes it look greater. Remember, nickle plated guns look bigger than they really are. HEHEHE.... Thanks for posting these great pictures. leroy

I think there is a lot of truth in this post; but i cant buy the "...we are turning into a police state..." thing yet. Dave is exactly right, a majority of folks voted for what we have now and the present "regieme" is doin all they can to kick the can down the road toward authoritorianism and the "police state" thing. We are seein a redux of post civil war reconstruction politics levied against political enemies on a national scale. The good news as i see things is that more and more folks are wakin up to what's goin on. Lots of them are edgy and are buyin up firearms; and they aint for hunting and plinking. For the first time in my life; i believe a goodly number of people are actually very concerned that the US government may not be a benign force. I count that a good thing; because its not, and hasnt been for quite a while. The bad news is that i think it's about a 50/50 split population wise; but there is good news in that it is regional. The "blue" voters are concentrated in the usual "blue" areas; or are islands in "red" territories ALA Memphis and inner-city Nashville. Jerrymandering in the blue states, voter fraud, and a weak bunch of republican pukes brought us barak noama and "uncle mort" napolitano. Folks for the first time in a long time (...since the civil war...) and post civil war reconstruction otherwise reasonable and hitherto uncaring citizens are seein first hand what "reprisal politics" and high handed government is actually like and they dont like it. I count that a good thing. I predict that we will get rid of lots of the nobama authoritarianism about 2014 because the demorats are gonna have to re-brand themselves and distance themselves from this idiocy to keep foolin their political base. The rebublicans are worse; because they have let this happen twice now. They may well morph into the demorat party and a new party may emerge ALA folks like Rand Paul, Rubio, and Ted Cruze; and i count that a good thing. I believe that no matter what happens with the presidential and federal elections, we are gonna see the red states get redder and the blue states get bluer. Some of the blue states are turnin purple and red; i count that a good thing too; again, more and more people are wakin up and they dont like what they see. Matter of fact; i think that the only people who "like" what's goin on now are the hard core socialists, idiotic union members, children, and those on the dole. The socialist and union thing is a religion in my view; the "children" are ignorant; and the "on the dole" thing is what it's always been; ....being bought and sold like cattle.... . All for a measley handout from the government. I think that states rights are emerging and that we will see a continuing devolution of the states into like-minded confederations; where the citizens of the individual states decide what they are willing to allow (...just as it should be, anyway....). I think it will lead to a showdown with the federal gubt if we get another demorat; but i think the showdown will be bloodless; with the courts puttin the federal gubmt in its place. Havin said all that, i will concede that talk is cheap and that nothin has happened as yet; but i think we're in for some interestin politics in the next few years. I'll close this little musing by sayin that america wuz founded on rebellion and a yearning for freedom. America was founded on the anthesis of what the old world wuz and is now; a bunch of cowed compliant serfs governed by a political elite; first kings, then kaisers, then a political elites. The sons of b****es running big government machine politics at the fed., state, and local levels are tryin mighitily to make us all serfs; and they were doin pretty well with it up until now. Now they have tipped their hand, and the most rustic and base of us can see what they are doin. They would have done well to be a bit lighter handed; and kept foolin the children and the blissfully ignorant among us. Here's hopin im right. rustic leroy

Bustin clay birds with an old rifle, cast bullets, and a 2 power scope at a hundred yards aint bad. I wouldnt be surprized if your groups turn out tighter than the 50 yard targets would indicate. Ive seen that before with jacketed bullets. The 50 yard target may be showin bullet prints still tryin to stabilize. I cant wait to see your 100 yard targets when ya get the time. Keep up the good work. leroy

It's university and "think tank"...(....ya gotta wonder what they are thinkin about...) welfare and largesse passed out to like minded buddies. It's a hulluva deal if ya can get it. I've got a distant relative who is a PHD etomologist; they make proposals for some strange stuff. The good news (...and the bad news for us...); is they get paid well for studyin it. leroy

Take a look at any semiauto pistol in the barrel/feed ramp area; and you will see this to varying degrees. We used to have this same problem with the old time colt 1911's chambered in 38 super (...70s era...). The problem is that the bottom of the barrel at the junction with the feed ramp needs to be relieved a bit to get the right geometry to get the round in the chamber as the pistol cycles; and to make it do so reliably. That's why OAL for ammo is so important in semiautos. It needs to be long enough to chamber without stubbing on top of the barrel hood; and the nose needs to be able to slide up the feed ramp and by the relief at the barrel junction smoothly. The main thing to remember about all this "smile" business is that all semiauto pistols have the barrel/ramp area relieved to some degree; and that when ya "hot load" the rounds; ya may get to see what happens when one of the cases blows out. I have had this "problem" bunches of times; all of them self-inflicted by heavy reloads. I'm a bit more "calm" now; so i dont do that kind of stuff anymore. "Sane" reloading practices go a long way toward fixin this problem. leroy

Chrome/Nickel AR-15 Bolt Carrier Assembly Opinions...
leroy replied to Ted S.'s topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
For what it's worth; i think that the only "value" a plated bolt carrier brings to the party is the idea that it's slicker and ya can see the dirt better when the time comes to see what your cleanin off the carrier. They get plenty dirty and i can see where a good plating job would slicken things up and make them easier to see. "slicker" also means the stuff will come off easier because of this "slickness". The "crome" plating is pretty hard; but the "boron nitride" stuff is "harder than a harlot's heart". Harder material plus good surface prep on the bare steel equals real slick surface. Havin said all that; i will pass on the downside of plating. It can and does come off. Back when i worked for a livin; we used lots of "magic" flame spray and plating operations on large rotating machinery to build up shafts and bearing surfaces. If not done very well (...and sometimes when it is very well done; and for reasons unknown to mortals who are doin their best...); flame spray and plating can (...and does...) come off from time to time; naturally, at the wrong time; because that is the nature of things. If i wuz usin my ar to protect my life and had to absolutely make certain that it would work; i would not use a plated anything in the carrier group of my ar for the reasons stated above. If i wuz a casual plinker, target shooter, tinkerer, or ar mechanic playin with toys for enjoyment; i wouldnt hesitate to buy a good plated carrier if i wanted one. Also, another "for what it's worth" in regard to steels. The stuff used in weapons in general and ars specifically is good stuff. It's hard, slick, strong and will do the job very well without any plating or surface treatments at all. Couple that with the great advances in NC machining and you have not good; but "great stuff". If ya buy good stuff; you will get great results. Dont be dragged off into the woods by the snake oil salesmen who say they have "magic platings", "secret coatings" and "mysterious metals" they use in parts; its all marketing hype. All this stuff is good. That's why it works so well. leroy -

Its a given that the morals, ethics, habits, etc. ect. ect... of "...those of lower estate..." are goin down the tube. That is the nature of things. Darwin wuz wrong about evolution. We are devolving; not evolving; and this topic is a great proof of that fact. In my view, the deal on same sex marriage is both phiosophical and fiscal. The philosophical or metaphysical (....or nearly spiritual one...) is the yearning of the homo to be accepted as a full fledged, even valued member of society. That, they believe, will make them "whole" and holy before their peers and whomever else they feel they need to be made whole before. In short, they yearn to be seen as the new "norm" or even as someone to be looked up to by the "yooouths (....as Jessee Jackson would say....) of Amerika"; along with the attendant demand that they be protected by the force of the whole of the us gubmt ALA civil rights laws as a "protected class of citizen"... The fact is that in some places in this country (...read that individual states ....); he (...she or it...) has this adulation today; and im ok with that. I'm not ok with them demanding special citizen status and protections under the constitution. Let 'em have the same protections that we do. Murder and mayhem against anyone, gay or straight is still a crime in most places in this country. The other peice of this is the fiscal thing. They want the same insurance coverage (...at the same rates, i would suppose...) as the "normal (...read that male - female, for real...) family would enjoy. The same rules of inheritance, etc, etc, on and on. Again, they have all this now in several states. The homojhiadist would have us all believe that they are somehow put upon and that they have been agreived somehow. I just dont see how; but that's just me. Evidently some of these homojhadists are people of considerable means (...read that that "they have money"...) because the usual cast of sons of satan is linin up to help them; especially the dammed polititians. Havin said all this stuff; i fail to understand what the homo gripe is. It looks to me like that they have the most of what they want now. The other thing, which no human court can give them, that they really want is legitimacy. They simply aint gonna get that one. The legitimacy thing is a heart and spirit thing; that cant be legislated; it has to be accepted on and individual basis. The Supreme Court is between a rock and a hard place on this one. The constitution says nothin about marriage. Marriage is a societal thing. The DOMA thing is a duly passed law in the good ole USA. The Prop 8 thing is a duly passed law in the state of kalefornia that the "fairy federal judge" later struck down; and a bunch of klowns on the ninth circuit court affirmed. It looks to me like the big question is whether the court had any juristiction in this case to begin with. My guess is "no". The original ruling shouldn't have been made at all. My guess (...and it is a guess...) is that the supremes will say this one should have never been brought up in the federal court at all. The state gives out marriage licenses; not the federal gubmt. This one is a tempest in a tea pot. It looks to me like the homojhadists may just have been "dissed" again. Let us all wait 'en see. I say "...let him who is richeous be richeous still. Let him who is filthy be filthy still...". Ya cant legislate legitimacy, nor can you legislate opinions. leroy

Any good loads for 357 mag rifle with 158 grain lead bullets?
leroy replied to jeff43's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I would start with the Power Pistol. Try the factory recommended load. Power pistol is the slowest of your bunch of powders (...i think...). Slower equals better perfromance in long barreled firearms. leroy -
