I like this stuff. Let's spar a bit. RE: This: The statement above is, in fact, tatmount to name-calling. You cant remove the "name-calling" by involking "state of mind". You simply do not have the ability to determine his "state of mind". You can theorize and hypothesize; but you simply dont know it. I say, it's a bunch of word games that borders on the "tolerance police thing"; nothin more; which is, by the way, another hypothesis. I cant determine that either. What if he (...or i, or anyone else for that matter...) harbors "ill will" or "hatred" for someone or some thing??. What difference does it make to you, him and me; other than idle curiosity?. I dont happen to think that "remote analysis" is a very reliable method of evaluation of an individual's innermost thoughts and deeply held beliefs; but that's just me. There are plenty of places where our minds are made up. White supremists dont like other races, Their speech was protected by a liberal woman federal judge a few months ago while they were in the slammer (...in wisconsin, i think...). I think the words were somethin like this: "....there is a right to free political speech in this country; no matter how heinous it may be to some hearers..." This stuff is, in fact, free political speech as it speaks to issues of public discussion and discourse. The following is also protected speech as well: "..... The Christian God Man didnt like the sin; but loved the sinner enough to die for him according to the Christian tradition... You should learn to get along with that one too; its a matter of religious conviction; also protected by the first amendment. It is a most majestic and alturistic thing to "hate the sin" and "love the sinner". Some in the gay community, pop culture, and in the political class would have us believe the Christian God-Man speech is "hate speech". It aint. It's free political speech. RE: The "equal rights for gays" thing. The court ruled that what the state sanctions and regulates (...marriage...), demands that all the rights and priviledges commensurate with that sanction are applicable to all classes of marriage. Nothin more. Ray Charles could have seen that the DOMA thing would be struck down once the state recognized more than one species of marriage. I dont have a problem with that. They found no "right to marriage" in the constitution; the reason, there aint one. They did affirm that whatever the state regulates requires equal treatment without prejudice as to the "type of marriage" (...homo, hetro, or other...). I say the state and government ought to get out of the marriage business (...as others have wisely opined..); but that aint gonna happen. leroy

Im amazed at lots of the things ive read in this thread; especially right above in Keel's posts. The fact of the matter is that most folks who see things thru the lens of reality understand that the embracing of the gay agenda in the political and business community is nothing more than pandering to another group of people in order to collect some moolah for the business or government apparatachik --- nothin more. If we claim to be the paragons of 'tolerance for the views of others" as some of the more open minded have proclaimed to be; how come it is that we have so much venom, condemnation, and bad talkin to stored up in us that we cant simply say to those who dont see things the way you may see 'em? Why not simply grant that ... each individual has a right to his/her/its opinions...; and leave it at that when the impasse hits? I say that if we supposidely believe in all these individual freedoms and are so intellectually and culturally advanced; we ought to believe in the adult idea of listening to differences of opinions regarding these issues. As some smart guy philosopher said in the long ago: "...The mark of wisdom is to be able to examine an idea without actually embracing it...". RE: The discenting "moral" issue: I say it's ok to have a discenting opinion on this issue based on moral grounds. That opinion has been around for millenia and was prevalent in lots of cultures. The "moral" issue (...i know, save the speeches about "whose morals". They are yours; whether they are taken from some religious authority or from your own fertile mind; its an individual judgement and decision. In the end, the individual makes his own moral judgements...) is a valid one; and it aint just tied to the Christian world view. Holding this opinion doesnt make you a "religious zealot". Some folks simply dont see the gay thing in the "broad-minded" pop culture view that is bantered about today; and, with me, that's ok; and it ought to be ok with you too. Nobody here is gonna take up the sword and exterminate anyone else. The inference that there are those on this forum who would do those things is nothin but childish "hyper-speech" designed to inflame and obfuscate the sensible, reasoned discussion of this (...or any other issue...). The sixties hippies have done their work well (...some of it needed doin---some didnt....) in that they have effectively taught the "gospel of tolerance" for all actions; no matter how heinous to some elements of society. It's the ole "re-writing of the immutible laws" thing in acton. They have also been very effective in teaching the "demonization of enemies" thing as well. Both these tennants of hippydom are fully and firmly enshrined in the minds of many today as gospel; thus creating some "new immutable laws". We can quibble a bit about this one; but i firmly believe in the pop culture thing that says the only virtue is "...the un-negotiable demand that the individual have tolerance for the views, actions, habits, sexual preferences, proclivities, ect, ect. that the current "pop culture pet tribe demands ....). There simply are no other virtues. "Tolerance" means to them that you must embrace, accept, and celebrate whatever the "flavor of the moment" happens to be. If you dont do that; you are Satan. That gives these "tolerant types" the license to berate, make fun of, name call, excoriate, ostracize, ect. ect .ect whomever happens not to share their current view with the whip of the old "you aint tolerant" excoriation; and gives them license to call you names like a bunch of school yard children. This action supposidly causes the offending party to cower in the corner and beg for forgiveness for not being tolerant enough. When the poor offending party does his pentinence, he is finally restored into the fold of "inclusiveness" and readmitted into the pop culture tribe... This is not only ignorant and laughable; it's the ultimate intolerance, i say. If we are so damned tolerant of other views; why aint we tolerant about opposing views and why dont we have an adult discussion about them? I dont know about you, but names dont bother me too much. I could give a damn less if you call me a name; especially the "intolerant, homophobe, bigot, on and on and on". I see it as a mark of childishness which always comes out when those sayin them have run out of gray matter to argue the facts. I dont believe in the "god of tolerance" and i aint gonna bow down to he/she/it/whatever... The fact is that everybody who is gay aint a gay jhadist; and every person of faith aint a "religous zealot". This thread started as a commentary on not likin the youtube stance on the gay agenda. That's ok with me; i dont happen to like it either. What it has turned into is a pseudo-namecalling attack on those who see things differently than some other folks do. Then we started the hippy "tolerance jhadists" thing. I think it's laughable that the "tolerance police" are so intolerant. There aint any words that i dont use; and there aint any "tolerance police" that i obey. Neither should you. If you dont like something; just state your case if its relevant. Dont name-call. It makes us all look collecively dumber and it never works with people who have good sense. This picking and choosing of everything that comes down the road as a "civil rights -- human rights" issue does nothin but continue to "balkinize" our society and make it devolve even more into tribalism. Tribalism is the exact opposite of republican democracy, and where tribalism wins the day, republican democracy is ultimately vanquished. If this wasnt so serious, it would be funny. I'm thru with my little rant now; my indignation is dropped back down to around room temperature. I say folks ought to think a bit about this little rant and decide who they really are. Do they believe in rational discussion or in namecalling? I recommend the former rather than the latter. The latter makes you look ignorant and childish. Nobody looks good ignorant and childish. leroy

Not to be snippy; but the shotgun has got a 7 plus 1 extended tube. That's a helluva lot of shootin. The police may need it if they are confronting the Dalton Gang, a plethora of drug dealers, or a crowd of idiots. That aint likely with a home invasion type thing (...i dont think, anyway...). For me; there's a glock 27 right next to the shotgun. Havin said all that; I guess my problem is the handling problem. I aint into the "why" of the sidesaddle and the extra ammo thing. I'll concede that one. ....I'm interested in the handling aspects when there is a "bump and you need to get up to see what it is"..... Said another way; does the sidesaddle get in the way when you handle the shotgun and does it affect balance? BigK hit it on the nose here: leroy
-
Dear folks:_____________ I guess im an old school shotgun guy. We used to shoot lots of shotgun at backyard clay birds and i learned how to reload shotgun doin this stuff; so ive spent quite a bit of time handlin shotguns; both semiauto and pump. I'm also an old time "riot gun" affectionado. I've never seen one i didnt like; from model 97's right up to the mossy 500's and remington 870's. My current favorite is the Browning BPS beside my bed. All it has on it is an extended magazine tube. Havin given all that background; i wanted to ask one question: I see lots of HD and Riot type guns with sidesaddles on ''em. It looks to me like the sidesaddle would get in the way and mess up the shotgun balance a bit. Now to my question; does it do either or or am i just not liking the new way of doin things? I can see the need for police folks to have a side-saddle (...or backup...). I aint sure i see the need for HD. What's the story? Am i missing somethin here? leroy
-
Just saw this. Will add my usual speech. 90% of feeding problems in semiauto pistols are due to magazine problems. If i have a magazine that hiccups in any way; i change the spring and follower (...check brownells out for the parts...) or toss it. leroy

RED: Contratulations on the chicken thing!! My uncle (...who lived next door out in the country when i wuz a boy...) loved chicken and raised all sorts of the weird bantam varieties. I always liked to check 'em out. Chickens come in an almost endless variety and God seems to have outdone Himself with the more humorous varieties. They are real cool; amazing to look upon. The main problem with the bantams is that the eggs and drumsticks are a bit small. Ya have to eat more of them to fill up. HEHEHE.... Good luck with the chicken project. PS-- FORGOT TO TELL YA. MY DAD RAISED GAME CHICKENS. Been flogged and run off a bunch of times. Get yourself a few, and you will have "attack chickens". They are tough. I saw some yesterday (...in the rain...) under or in front of their coops. They are a great thing. PS -- There are "game" bantams out there too.. chickenless leroy

I agree, this is big stuff. Thanks for posting it 6.8. I really liked the pictures. The signs are great; especially the "hyprocacy" one. I'm continually amazed at the ineptitude and ignorance of our current (...and former, for that matter...) administration(s) with regard to anything diplomatic. On balance, i dont like most diplomatic operatives; because it's most always about picking our pocket and passing out money to our enemies; but this bunch seems to be stunningly stupid. From Obama, to Susan Rice, to Hillary, to Kerry; they seem to drawn to the wrong decision no matter what. I'm beginning to believe that it is "Providential Blindness"... That being said, im like some others here; the Egypt thing is a big deal. Egypt is a very important part of the middle east; strategically (...location and Suez Canal....) and economically (...they feed lots of other folks nearby...). They are also a relatively educated people (...unlike lots of other arab countries we could name...) with a history of secular government. The last thing we (...and they...) needed wuz a Muslum Brotherhood operative as its leader; and it looks like the military figured that out pretty quickly. This one will be interestin to watch. One of the things we need to think about here in this country is that the Muslum Brotherhood wuz birthed and gained it's teeth in Egypt; but leaders right up to the Morsi kept it in check; and maintained some semblance of a "secular government"; abeit crooked or not. It's interestin that the egyptian army, with the help of the egyptian people appear to be rebelling against Muslum Brotherhood thing. Could it be that they have seen and experienced enough in this short time to understand the real deal with the Muslum Brotherhood version of the world?. Maybe we need to import a bit of the Muslum Brotherhood brand of government to selected locations in the sourlands so they could get the idea too. Since Obama seems to have a perchant for the "Brotherhood"; why dont we try it in Chicago and some other selected locations around the country that believe the Obama version of the truth??. We can watch and see how it works out for them. Maybe a little dose of that muslum justice and a touch of gang rape and public beatings and beheadings without benefit of trial might clear the minds of those who like this stuff. leroy -
The problem most folks here have with the call for "open mindedness" on this issue is that to believe that the present gubmt is somehow following the law requires you to deny what your eyes, ears, and intellect is telling you. It also requires you to have a child-like belief in the alturism of government and the uprightness of its bureaucratic corps and elected officials; not to mention the fact that you have to discount and ignore the mountain of data and reports of mis-deeds as somehow the musings of mad men. I simply do not believe that anyone with a smattering of genuine concern for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights can believe that what is going on with the PRISM program is constitutional or lawful. leroy

RE: The Civil War wuz about slavery??!!! That's the official narrative for the masses... I say "no"; not completely... It wuz about the usual thing that war is about. ....Control of others.... . There were pretty serious differences simmering between the northern and southern states as far back as Andrew Jackson's presidency; he, unlike Lincoln, solved them without a war. These differences were largely about the cost of goods goin south vs north and tarriffs as i remember. It was also about "nullification" (...interestin word aint it; heard it lately?...) of federal law by the individual states ALA John C. Calhoun (...check his bio out, interestin read...). Slavery was a contributor to the war because of the slave state - free state thing. The issue of slavery was an odious thing to any free people (...it should be...) and many didnt like the idea of buying, selling, and working your brothers and sisters as private property. It was continually wrestled with in the United States legislature, courts, churches, and culture because of its odious nature; it's the problem of "...life, liberty, and the pursuit of happines thing..... Slavery was a "hot button" issue of convenience to add another dimension to the real causes of the civil war. It was "in the news" in other places (...the British Empire...) and had been recently abolished there (...1833...); by peaceful means, i might add. Here in the united states; the usual demigogues in politics used the issue to their collective advantage to involk some degree lo legititmacy to the union cause. The civil war wuz about the usual stuff.... Decide to impose your will on your brother while pretending to be freeing someone else (...sounds like modern times with afganistan and other places to me.....) ..... Remember this; the civil war started in 1861. The emancipation proclamation wuz signed in 1863.... More than that; there were slaves freed in the confederacy contingent on military service to the confederacy; pretty much the same as there wuz up north; but no one talks about that. It doesnt fit the narrative. If the civil war wuz all about slavery; how come it took so long to get around to freeing the slaves??? Two years is a long time, especially in a war....Interestin to think about aint it?? More than that, the slave thing wuz dying in the western world. William Wilberforce (...a real Christian, by the way for you "unaffilliated" folks -- read his bio. You will be impressed...) was the driving force in ending slavery throughout the British Empire without firing a shot in 1833. A much bigger slave population than that in the US was freed without any bloodshed. Very interesting; dont you think?? Remember this:..."History is written by the victors." ... The winners always cannonize and confer sainthood on their operatives to justify their actions whether those actions are honorable or not. Never believe the "official accounts" of anything. They may not tell the whole truth (...imagine that!!...). leroy

Richard: This is a great point; thank you for makin it: I've watched with great interest the political scene in the "old Rhodesia" --- now Zimbabwe and more recently South Africa; as well as here in the good ole USA since the seventies. My interest wuz peaked in the africa thing because we had dear childhood friends whose parents were missionaries to Rhodesia until they had to leave the country for their safety in the seventies. What happened in both places is exactly what you are sayin here; and it was done with the help of international pressure from the US State Department, the socialists, demigogues, political opportunists, would be dictators, and the race-baiters under the guise of "equal rights" for all. The fact is that nothing could be farther from the truth. It was a coup pure and simple carried out at the ballot box with international sanction by the liberal world community that has resulted in the murder of the economy and many of the original settlers who, in fact, founded these countries and made them productive; lifting the standard of living for everybody; both black and white. We can quibble about how "fair" things were in the old days in Rhodesia and South Africa; but there is no doubt that things are much worse now. The government (...both South African, US, European socialist, and others...) are currently turning a blind eye to the murder of the Afrikanners in South Africa and they are "redistributing" the property of the poor diseased souls to their political buddies. Folks in this country are praising socialist thugs like Nelson Mandella, compairing him to George Washington when nothing could be farther from the truth. The truth is that he wuz (...and still is, sadly, he's still alive...) the leader of a bunch of thug rabble that murdered anyone, black or white, that didnt see things their way. Make no mistake, Nelson Mandella and his accomplices are behind the murder and thuggery thats goin on in South Africa today. They are far worse than the Apartied" that they replaced. All people in these countries are poorer, less free, and less safe now than they were to begin with. Rhodesia used to be the "breadbox of africa". Now it's a poor dictatorship that had one election and a constitution that aint worth the paper it's written on. I've come to believe that there are elements in academia and in the black community that see this model ALA South Africa and Zimbabwe as an "ok" thing for this country; as much as it troubles me to say it. They are tenured in places like UCLA and the University of Chicago, and other places around the country and are free to spew this venom to all that are willing to listen to it. Its also being preached in some churches in this country as well as on the street corners of some communities in the inner city by folks like the Nation of Islam. Make no mistake; the "social gospel" is the same stuff. It postulates that "mean european whites" stole everything from the poor folks of color and that whatever means necessary are ok to right that wrong from long ago. That is exactly what you are seeing in the policies now favored by the Obama administration. Havin said that, i dont believe it will work here because of the demographic (...black vs white...) ratios. South Africa is 90% plus black. The only places that are safe down there now are the diamond and gold mine operations that have big fences around them and guys with guns watchin them. I also suspect that wherever the Red Chinese are operating (...they have some serious interest in mining in africa...), things are pretty safe; and we all know why. I know that all this is "tinfoil hat" stuff to lots of folks; and they may blow it off as the ramblings of a nutty old coot that has too much time on his hands and a suspicious mindset. All i would ask of anybody that reads it is to take a look at what is goin on in these places and look at what's happening here. You just may turn into a nutty old bird yourself. Do i think it will work here? No.... Do i think there are disturbing parallels? Yes.... From the bunker on the hillside. leroy

I dont think anyone "wants to shoot anyone"... That is very serious business and i believe most adults with some modicum of reasonability about them fully understand the terrible consequences for all involved with this sort of thing. What i do believe is happening is that the forebearance and "cup of kindness" and brotherly concern and compation that most hard workin folks used to have for their brother and sister citizens has evaporated. The "dole" and the overbearing rhetoric coming out of the race-baiters, their weak minded children, the main stream media, and sourland politicos have polarized the country as bad as ive ever seen; and im a relatively old man. People are simply tired of being badgered because they work and have a few things, are tired of being called bigots, tired of havin their pockets picked by the government, tired of government operatives opressing them and turning a blind eye to certain behaviors by some citizens; while wrongly persecuting others, and having the "on the dole" crowd demanding things or else they will tear somethin up or "kill whitey". I think people are on edge and in their heart of hearts do not believe that this country is a color blind place of equal opportunity for all, nor a place of safety as it's presently being governed; nor do they believe that this county as it is currently constituted is is the place that it was envisioned to be even a generation ago. They are concerned for themselves, their families, their property, and their neighbors. They are wary of their government and their fellow citizens who are breathing out threats against them. I dont think anyone who works for a living will "look for trouble". I do believe that those who say "....were goin to burn, kill, and maim ALA the South African model...." better be damn careful where they decide to do it. I simply do not believe that people will sit idly by and have what they have worked for destroyed by these "children of lower estate" and their thug accomplices. Ole Charley Manson may not have been as crazy as he seemed when he talked about the comming race war. He may have been a visionary; seeing far into the future. I think that folks need to understand what has been preached in places like the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's church in Chicago; is not a message of brotherly love and christian kindness. It has been quite the opposite. The last thing that the 'social gospel" is is the preaching of brotherly kindness and love. And, the truth is that the Rev. Jeremiah Wright aint the only preacher in the black community sayin these things. You add the Black Panther dimension to this stuff; plus the race-baiters, and demigogue polititians and you get what we've got. You add the permissive blind eye post-civil war reconstruction selective prosecution atmosphere created by Eric Holder, and you simply embolden these folks to act on these evil impulses. I think more and more people are realizing this and are becomming alarmed by it. I think they well should be. Do i think there will be trouble here? Will there be trouble in other places? Probably so. leroy

We need to lighten up: How about this: ".....He who thinks great thoughts, often makes great errors ...." Martin Heidegger This guy had to be talkin about us here on the forum... Courtesy of here: http://www.philosophybasics.com/general_quotes.html Havin borrowed that: My personal favorite aint in the lineup above; but it goes something like this: "... It is the mark of maturity to consider and examine an idea without embracing or believing it...." For some reason i think one of the greek philosophers said it. Remember, consider everything. Believe that which is honorable, true, and wise (...which pretty much lets out all the pop culture baloney, conventional wisdom, and political doublespeak....). leroy, amateur student of philosophy and casual observer of the human condition.

Dont worry about bein a homophobe man. Remember the little limeric: "....Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words (...and childish pseudo-ostracism by the tolerance police...) will never hurt me....". I do the "...dont ask dont tell..." thing. Dont act ignorant and say ignorant things; especially about your sexual orientation; and i wont laugh at it. The fact is that the great "Godfather" Rahm hit a homerun the other day with this quip: "...The gays are the next jews of fundraising...". Its about the money, man; nothin more. The lasie-fair capitalist class and the political class aint worried about your sexual orientation (...and i aint either...); they are worried about your money and they are workin on ways to collect it. If it's a bribe or stroking to make you feel better so you will give em money; thats ok, they will give it to you. If it's an outright endorsement thats ok too; it costs them nothin; and they aint worried about the "ethics" of their endorsement. They aint got any when it comes to collecting dollars. At the end of the day, its about the money. Remember, money is the mothers milk of politics and the currency of capitalism.
